[Bug 19783] New: The names of CSS classes should have underscores instead of spaces

See, for instance

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Kanwar_Pal_Singh_Gillaction=history

Here each tag (i.e. Tag: References removed) is wrapped in span
class=mw-tag-marker mw-tag-marker-references removed. But
'mw-tag-marker-references' and 'removed' are separated by a space, which means
that there are actually two classes 'mw-tag-marker-references' and 'removed'.
On the other hand each tagged entry in the history is wrapped in li
class=mw-tag-references_removed, which correctly has an underscore symbol.
The same problem appears in the recent changes. See for example

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:RecentChangestagfilter=references+removed

Can spaces in class names used in span tags be replaced with underscores?

Is this error reproducible? Are you able to make (manual) edits w/ this user
account?

From the traceback, one can see that MediaWiki API returns with an error b/c
the account has been blocked. And as far as I can see, the Collection extension
can do nothing about that.

Speaking purely theoretically here, but it would be nice if could have a
JavaScript that does the following:

1) By default focus the search box on every page
2) If user presses any of the arrows/page up/page down send those back to the
browser when the _search box is empty_

I wonder how viable is 2), anyone has an idea?

Pretty easy in FF as it turns out. Not sure about other browsers (needs
testing). Still hate the idea though (but not so bad with an opt-out).

What about if they use other platform-specific conventions for scrolling?
Aren't there some Ctrl combinations for Mac, for instance? What about search
as you type?

Looking at some other sites:

* dictionary.com auto-focuses search, but its front page doesn't need scrolling
on typical desktop resolutions.
* tfd.com auto-focuses search, and its front page does need scrolling (although
not for the most interesting content, of course).
* britannica.com doesn't auto-focus search.
* encyclopedia.com auto-focuses search, and requires scrolling.
* knol.google.com does not auto-focus search.
* encarta.msn.com does auto-focus search, and requires scrolling.

Well, if enwiki would just cut down the front page to half its current size,
we'd have a really easy solution: there wouldn't be enough content on the main
page to be worth scrolling. :) Do we have statistics on what percentage of
visitors to the Main Page go on to search for something? Presumably a lot of
searchers use, e.g., the Firefox search box, which is a lot faster (one less
page load). Also, I wonder how many users look at the front page content
before scrolling.

Trevor, does the usability team have any opinion on this?

I tested on Mac, and Safari passes scroll-like events in textfields
regardless of this Javascript. FF would need it however I guess.

It does however scroll the page to the focused element if the element is out
of view. (no problem on the Main page if we have Vector, otherwise might be
annoying).

Applied on r53398.

Additionally, the rights 'versiondetail' has been added for sysop by default on
the commit too, as on comment 18. If maintainers do not want to show the
information for the sysops, use $wgGroupPermissions['sysop']['versiondetail']
= false; to suppress them.

To enable the enhanced editing toolbar it is necessary to activated the
normal edit toolbar.

There is no information for the user, that he have to choose both option. In my
opinion this should clarify. Maybe by adding the Enable enhanced editing
toolbar as a sub option with indent:

[] Widen the edit box to fill the entire screen
[] Show edit toolbar (requires JavaScript)
   [] Enable enhanced editing toolbar
[] Mark all edits minor by default

Wikipedia is now running r53381 of the wmf-development branch, which causes
Special:Code to mark all revs up to and including r53381 with the
mw-codereview-live class. Obviously, this is not correct, since most revs to
trunk and extensions between r53381 and r52088 aren't actually live.

--- Comment #17 from Steve Sanbeg ssan...@web.de 2009-07-17 18:52:44 UTC ---
Upgrading severity; I don't think not bringing down the entire site is really
in the spirit of an enhancement.

It would be helpful to have some information on what still needs to be done,
and possibly what time frame it's expected. It's not clear to me whether
there's still development work needed, or just testing. If the current
behavior is sufficiently broken, and the time frame is long enough, people may
want to migrate from gif to png just to avoid this bug; so they should have
something to base that decision on.

When I closed Jools, bug we already had the basic functionality implemented, so
I expected a better resolution to be quickly forthcoming, but in the meantime
it's only been de-prioritized, so I may have been mistaken.

Note that my change of the priority was merely a tool to try and make sense of
my bug list, distinguishing bugs that need urgent attention, my ongoing
priorities, side projects that I need to get to on my bug day (currently
Friday), and bugs that are best assigned to me but which I have no intention of
expending the effort to fix.

This bug is in the penultimate category — I will get to it, but it is not
urgent nor one of my day to day priorities.

The functionality requested has been implemented in the attached patch, but I
need to test and apply the patch when I have the time to.

The Vector skin's table of contents summarizes the headers in the page, but
only shows the page's structure using numbered sections (e.g. 3, 3.1, 3.2)
without using indentation as a backup. (Monobook and Modern use both.) I'm not
sure if that is by design, but if it isn't, a fix would be very appreciated.

Ok, is not too much problem to download 1GB instead of

OK, this is some thought I was having regarding the thumbs we generate, since
these are often used by external people, with no good way for attribution or
anything.

This patch (untested since I don't run mediawiki), extends the imagemagick
command that we run with an option that (should) add the URL of it's
description page to the PNG file. I think it can be very useful.

Added files using php importImages.php dir --username=Foo

'category'. Tried to re-import with --overwrite specified, but the previous
comments were not updated. Had to manually edit all 22 pages by hand to fix
the spelling (there may be another maintenance tool I'm not aware of to do
this, however).

At any rate, I would have expected --overwrite to update the comments field
with the changed text.

Well then Aha, Checkmate, there should be
IF they haven't customized it
THEN just like any other message, obey uselang= etc.
ELSE then do as you do now, but what if they indeed want to provide
   three different translations, etc...

Anyway, the current way is not the right way to make a special case.
I fully support the goal, but the way it is currently accomplished
messes it up for the default case.

And of course this is all rather complicated so I'll just submit my
high level analysis above, and leave it as that...

Do get around to it LATER.

 Component: CheckUser
AssignedTo: jschulz_4...@msn.com

It should be possible to program a checkuser watchlist feature. People with
checkuser access should be able to enter a list of IP ranges, along with a
descriptive note (like IP range used by Grawp or something like that).

When a user-IP check is performed, any IPs that match any ranges listed in the
watchlist, the descriptive note is displayed.

The watchlists can be user-specific (each person with checkuser access has his
own watchlist), or global (all the checkusers share the same watchlist), or
both.

This would be HIGHLY useful. Interwiki CU coordination now is via our mailing
list which works but oculd be better.

I would like to see all 3. A private watchlist just for myself, a watchlist
that is shared with every CU on this particular wiki, and a global one across
all wikis where Stewards can administer permissions. Let me, as the author of
an entry, choose which visibilities are active, requiring at least one to be
active at all times, and let entries show who authored them, when, and what
wiki they were on at the time. Separate out the watchlist visibility permission
from CU itself so it can be assigned to Stewards, allowing them to see per wiki
and global watchlists regardless if they turned on the CU permission on a given
wiki or not.

[Bug 19800] New: Post AJAX-watch/unwatch explanatory message missing under Vector skin

2009-07-17 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=19800

Summary: Post AJAX-watch/unwatch explanatory message missing
under Vector skin
   Product: MediaWiki
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: All
   URL: http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Sandbox
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: enhancement
  Priority: Normal
 Component: Vector Skin
AssignedTo: tpars...@wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: br...@wikimedia.org

After clicking the AJAX-ified watch/unwatch tab link, a box is supposed to come
up at the top of the page with a brief explanation of what just happened, where
to find your watchlist, and how to get the page back off (or on) it.

This message doesn't seem to be showing up currently under Vector, which
compounds the problem of not being able to see the watch state because the link
is hidden.

[Bug 19801] New: Vector adds wikiprintable.css but like monobook does not require it.

2009-07-17 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=19801

Summary: Vector adds wikiprintable.css but like monobook does not
require it.
   Product: MediaWiki
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: minor
  Priority: Normal
 Component: Vector Skin
AssignedTo: tpars...@wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: hart...@videolan.org

The source contains:
link rel=stylesheet href=/skins-1.5/common/wikiprintable.css?230
type=text/css media=print /

I'm not really sure why, because VectorSkin extends SkinTemplate, which has:

public function commonPrintStylesheet() {
return false;
}

And according to Skin:
 * Skins that have their own
 * print stylesheet should override this and return false. (This is an
 * ugly hack to get Monobook to play nicely with
 * OutputPage::headElement().)

This is fixed! r53426 reduced the specificity of #toc ul (used to be
div#content #toc ul) and that made the following #toc ul ul rule actually
influence the 2nd, 3rd, etc. level lists. I have tested it on many browsers.
