while working on this issue i discovered that when using hhvm, Special:Import
cannot open the Special:Export XML file because it never opens the file source.
it looks like there may be an issue with the implementation of class
UploadSourceAdapter (/core/includes/Import.php) or that hhvm does not allow
custom protocols and stream sources.

plan to try and re-implement the UploadSourceAdapter per the hhvm manual’s
examples, but not sure if this is the best approach.

[Bug 70278] Volume of open changesets graph should show reviews pending every month

2014-09-12 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=70278

--- Comment #16 from Quim Gil q...@wikimedia.org ---
Alright, the shape of the green line makes more sense now. At least now we see
a steady increase instead of a sudden change of trend in the last three months.

Still, the total numbers look inconsistent with the values provided by other
graphs in that page.

The blue line in the first graphs marks 1657 changesets, but the total sum of
blue columns in the second graph is 1324. Why the difference of 333 changesets?

For the green we have 994 in the first graph, 718 in the second: a difference
of 276 changesets. I went through the 211 repositories listed below, adding the
value of Waiting for review, and the total for August is 755.

Therefore, we have two metrics that point a value in the 700s, while the first
graph says close to 1000. Which one is right?

[Bug 66283] Code review metrics should not include [WIP] changesets

I just realized that #11 WikimediaEvents Waiting for review at
http://korma.wmflabs.org/browser/gerrit_review_queue.html?page=2 is marking 3
changesets for August. However, it should count 1 because the other 2 have
WIP in the subject:

https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/#/q/status:open+project:mediawiki/extensions/WikimediaEvents,n,z

Meanwhile, Waiting for review at
http://korma.wmflabs.org/browser/repository.html?repository=gerrit.wikimedia.org_mediawiki_extensions_WikimediaEvents
shows zero, which might mean that the WIP changesets are discarded, although
zero is not correct either (should be 1)

The calculation of time at Most recent uploads is correct, though (151 days
in August, when the last upload of the one valid changeset was made in April
1st).

Linking this report with Bug 70278 because there we are discussing mismatches
counting changesets in relation to this metric.

[Bug 22475] GIFT format

2014-09-12 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=22475

--- Comment #6 from Charles Matthews charles.r.matth...@ntlworld.com ---
I agree with the thought that GIFT import into the extension might be useful.

To explain the current position from the WMUK angle takes rather more comment,
however. Basically we are now working on another format: call it J format,
since it is based on JSON. For a system under development, J format is being
preferred to expanding GIFT format in an ad hoc way, to add further question
types.

Some existing code translates a significant part of GIFT into J format (and
other code translates back). That means that if J format could be imported into
the Quiz extension, GIFT format also could be imported (given a bit more work).
I can't yet give an opinion whether we would want to do that for the current
project (working name Wikisoba, some details are at
https://wikimedia.org.uk/wiki/Wikisoba_project).

If the way that project is set up requires use of MediaWiki in the repository
aspect, then I would expect to come back to this bug. In any case the use of
GIFT internally in the project is as a human-readable form of syntax. We
probably will be expanding GIFT to do that.

[Bug 70758] New: Add Link should not add linked text at random positions

Random insertion of link in Content Translation interface

Description:

The scenario is when the user adds a translation using the +Add Translation
option in the Translation column, and clicks on a link in the Source column for
which corresponding link cards in both languages are displayed. If the user
clicks the +Add Link option in the link cards section without specifying any
cursor position, then text in the target language along with the link is placed
at a random location somewhere on the interface.

Steps to Reproduce:

1. Go to
http://cx.wmflabs.org/index.php?title=Special:ContentTranslationpage=Barcelonafrom=ento=bntargettitle=
(needs login)
2. Use '+Add Translation' to copy the first paragraph
3. DO NOT click on the Translation column i.e. the Translation column should
not have an active cursor position
4. Click on the link for 'London' in the Source Column. The Link cards should
display the link to the article in en and bn Wikipedia
5. Click on the +Add Link option

Actual Behaviour:

A link for London from the bn Wikipedia is inserted between the section heading
and the first paragraph . (See attachments)

Expected Behaviour:

It is expected that precise cursor placement will be defined when this
development story is addressed:
https://wikimedia.mingle.thoughtworks.com/projects/language_engineering/cards/4442

Until that happens, this random addition of links has to be handled and
prevented.

A patch to hooks-bugzilla is not sufficient, I had to patch j2bugzilla too.

I sent you the source files by email.

(The fix is an ugly hack. I do not like it.)

(Meanwhile (in June) j2bugzilla saw an update too. Maybe that allows for
an easier fix?)

Per reports from

appears that some users with accounts that are definitely not new are receiving
both the post-edit recommendation and the flyout.

Strangely, this issue does not appear with accounts on English Wikipedia. This
is true even for the same accounts on the other wiki (as tested by Eloquence.)

[Bug 70278] Volume of open changesets graph should show reviews pending every month

2014-09-12 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=70278

--- Comment #17 from Alvaro a...@bitergia.com ---
(In reply to Quim Gil from comment #16)
Alright, the shape of the green line makes more sense now. At least now we
see a steady increase instead of a sudden change of trend in the last three
 months.

Still, the total numbers look inconsistent with the values provided by other
 graphs in that page.

The blue line in the first graphs marks 1657 changesets, but the total sum
of blue columns in the second graph is 1324. Why the difference of 333
 changesets?

You are comparing time evolution with backlog time distribution. This two time
series are the same at the final value, but during the past time, the time
distribution will have more new changesets.

time distribution new changesets in A = new backlog time distribution
changesets in A + closed changesets between A and now.

In closed changesets between A and now if A = NOW, this value is zero and
both numbers in NOW should be the same.

And doing this analysis:

date: [May 2013, Jun 2013, Jul 2013, Aug 2013, Sep 2013, Oct
2013, Nov 2013, Dec 2013, Jan 2014, Feb 2014, Mar 2014, Apr 2014,
May 2014, Jun 2014, Jul 2014, Aug 2014, Sep 2014]
ReviewsWaiting_ts: [418, 546, 669, 798, 827, 998, 1113, 1191, 1233, 1286,
1258, 1316, 1455, 1565, 1670, 1657, 1571]
new: [49, 21, 25, 24, 14, 46, 39, 33, 62, 76, 82, 64, 126, 161, 284, 267,
197]

where new is for backlog metric, and ReviewsWaiting_ts is time evolution time
series, in Sep 2014 you have 1570 for new (adding all values for new) and
1571 for ReviewsWaiting_ts (getting the last point).

It is also the same case for the waiting for reviewer metric.

We are not showing the Sep 2014 data because it is incomplete, as we decided in
the past.

For the green we have 994 in the first graph, 718 in the second: a
difference of 276 changesets. I went through the 211 repositories listed
below, adding the value of Waiting for review, and the total for August is
 755.

Therefore, we have two metrics that point a value in the 700s, while the
first graph says close to 1000. Which one is right?

Exactly, I'm just saying that in the graphs they are not.

In the first graph, the green line for August 2014 shows Waiting for review:
994.

The second graph should show how these 994 are spread in time based on their
submission date, from August 2014 backward, right?

08-14 230
07-14 208
06-14 57
05-14 60
04-14 33
03-14 20
02-14 39
01-14 19
12-13 13
11-13 15

09-13 3
08-13 8
07-13 5
06-13 1
05-13 12 (this date has no column but does have changesets!)

TOTAL 730

The data of September 2014 doesn't play any role here, because both data points
are based in August 2014. I assume both metrics are counting the end of August
2014?

re-implemented UploadSourceAdapter trying to follow the manual example class as
best as possible, but that didn’t yield any positive results.

with additional testing, it looks like hhvm is not properly supporting custom
protocols and streams. in zend’s php, the first method called of a custom
stream wrapper is url_stat(). in hhvm, this method is never called.

is the custom stream necessary because the back-end storage of the uploaded
file can vary from a file system to mwstore?

i'm not sure how to move further with resolving this issue now. anyone have any
ideas?

A project was created:

Code was published at https://github.com/konarak/LUv2/tree/epicmess

The mentors considered the project PASSED, but it is unclear from the updates

We are also missing the required blog post summarizing all this.

[Bug 65445] Media Viewer should display licensetpl_attr instead of author when set (by {{Credit line}} and other templates)

2014-09-12 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=65445

--- Comment #17 from Jean-Fred jeanfrederic.w...@gmail.com ---
(In reply to Erik Moeller from comment #15)
I still remain skeptical how useful these custom bylines are (as opposed to
just setting the author field), but if we want to support them, we probably
have to support both -- per-file and per-license. Per-file is IMO much more
useful, because it can be sanely applied across licenses requiring
 attribution.

Please chip in on the discussion for possible options to clean this up.
Right now it's a mess and no third party re-user could be expected to make
 sense of it.

We don’t have to support it :). As I said earlier, the usage is widespread but
localised to only a few dozen users.
http://quarry.wmflabs.org/query/354

I suppose the point is to support their use case / workflow somehow, not the
template per se. Guillaume, could you help with that?

[Bug 70762] New: [makeCollapsible.js] Provide an option to let the initial state depend on the number of collapsible elements

2014-09-12 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=70762

Bug ID: 70762
Summary: [makeCollapsible.js] Provide an option to let the
initial state depend on the number of collapsible
elements
   Product: MediaWiki
   Version: 1.24-git
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: enhancement
  Priority: Unprioritized
 Component: JavaScript
  Assignee: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
  Reporter: listenle...@gmail.com
CC: krinklem...@gmail.com, matma@gmail.com,
tpars...@wikimedia.org
   Web browser: ---
   Mobile Platform: ---

Many wikis have some code in their MediaWiki:Common.js to make elements
collapsible with an additional feature that jquery.makeCollapsible doesn't
have: Whether an element is initially collapsed or not depends on the number of
such elements, if there are many either all or all but the first few are
collapsed, if there are only a few they are initially uncollapsed. Just three
examples:

* [[MediaWiki:Common.js]] (search for autoCollapse)
* [[de:MediaWiki:Common.js]] (search for showDefaultCount)
* http://nethackwiki.com/wiki/MediaWiki:Common.js/showhide.js

It would be nice if jquery.makeCollapsible supported this feature natively. The
number how many elements are few should be user-configurable, a hidden user
option prefixed with userjs- is probably enough (can be set permanently via
API or just on client side per User:/common.js). I'm not sure whether all
elements should be collapsed or just all but the first few (as implemented in
en.wikipedia), or perhaps even both (of course I have a personal opinion on
that, but as I'm German and like to play nethack I'm a bit biased).

Currently, no dedicated orientation existst regarding wording and phrasing in
the Wikibase software. Strange enough that qqq messages refer to the Wikidata
glossary while Wikidata, of course, is a project running Wikibase. The Wikidata
glossary is maintained by the Wikidata community and does not necessarily
reflect meanings expressed within the actual Wikibase software. A Wikibase
glossary may also give hints to the maintainers of the Wikidata glossary about
original intention of expressions and phrases.

2014-09-12 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=70764

Bug ID: 70764
Summary: [jquery.textSelection] Select sample text when
splitlines is true
   Product: MediaWiki
   Version: 1.24-git
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: Unprioritized
 Component: JavaScript
  Assignee: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
  Reporter: listenle...@gmail.com
CC: krinklem...@gmail.com, matma@gmail.com,
tpars...@wikimedia.org
   Web browser: ---
   Mobile Platform: ---

Steps to reproduce:

1. Open any page for editing, open the Advanced toolbar from WikiEditor.
2. Click the icon for inserting a list.

Expected result: The sample text Bulleted list item is selected.
Actual result: It is not.

If you don't have WikiEditor installed, you can execute
 $( '#wpTextbox1' ).textSelection( 'encapsulateSelection', {
  pre: '* ',
  post: '\n',
  peri: 'item',
  selectPeri: true,
  splitlines: true
 } );
instead of step 2 (which also shows that this indeed is an issue with
jquery.textSelection, and not with WikiEditor).

The HHVM patch was merged some weeks ago. Apparently WMF is using HHVM version
3.3.0-dev (srv), which is pretty meaningless as version numbers go. It
appears to me that if/when we upgrade to a newer HHVM 3.3.0, we'll get the
benefit of this patch.

--- Comment #4 from Fabian commodorefabia...@gmx.de ---
I'm currently working on a fix, or to be more specific I 'have' one but I don't
get what I expect.

Depending on how git savy you are:
https://github.com/xZise/pywikibot-core/commit/a44818b139c0e4168ff8a6b92546e612b9ae6181
should fix it, but this is what I get: http://paste.ubuntu.com/8325881/

(It looks like the same error, but it doesn't find a 'csrf' token and not an
'edit' token like in your case and that's because when something is requesting
an edit token it actually requests a csrf token.)

the issue seems to be related to the custom stream that is created in
Import.php using $id = UploadSourceAdapter::registerSource( $source ); and then
$this-reader-open( uploadsource://$id );

GWToolset uses XMLReader-open() with uploaded XML files without a custom
stream and has no problem.

so i'm not sure the issue lies in how hhvm implements XMLReader, but how it
handles custom streams or how mw is creating the custom stream.

[Bug 70765] New: Thanks should hide the thanks link in diff and history views when contributor disabled notifications

2014-09-12 Thread bugzilla-daemon

Bug ID: 70765
Summary: Thanks should hide the thanks link in diff and history
views when contributor disabled notifications
   Product: MediaWiki extensions
   Version: unspecified
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal

Steps to reproduce:
1) Ask someone to disable thanks notifications in the notification tab in
preferences — disable both email and web notifications.
2) View a diff made by that contributor (the whole diff, or its entry in
history, RCs, etc).

Expected result:
1) Thanks link is missing.

Actual result:
1) Thanks link is present.
2) Clicking it does nothing whatsoever, as the contributor is not notified (per
his/her preference).

Bug ID: 70766

In the user-config a specific site is set but via 'pywikibot.getSite' or
'pywikibot.Site' another (unrelated) Site (family) is chosen.

But in fact after a few requests to the unrelated site it's also querying the
user configured site. I found this when I was trying to figure out why I got
warnings for a complete legit API call.

 wp = pywikibot.getSite(en, wikipedia)

Traceback (most recent call last):
File stdin, line 1, in module
File pywikibot/site.py, line 1200, in __getitem__

KeyError: 'csrf'

If I change the user configuration to the English Wikipedia all api.php calls
vanish except one to en.wikipedia.org and I get a legit result.

Each URI is directly printed in the first line threadedhttp's Http.request

[Bug 70278] Volume of open changesets graph should show reviews pending every month

(In reply to Alvaro from comment #17)

You are comparing time evolution with backlog time distribution. This two
time series are the same at the final value

Exactly, I'm just saying that in the graphs they are not.

In the first graph, the green line for August 2014 shows Waiting for
 review: 994.

The second graph should show how these 994 are spread in time based on their
submission date, from August 2014 backward, right?

 08-14 230
 07-14 208
 06-14 57
 05-14 60
 04-14 33
 03-14 20
 02-14 39
 01-14 19
 12-13 13
 11-13 15
 10-13 7
 09-13 3
 08-13 8
 07-13 5
 06-13 1
05-13 12 (this date has no column but does have changesets!)

 TOTAL 730

The data of September 2014 doesn't play any role here, because both data
points are based in August 2014. I assume both metrics are counting the end
 of August 2014?

Yes both are counting end of August 2014, but one of them is showing the number
of reviews in August 2014 from the current open reviews, and the other is
showing the number of open reviews in 2014 (from which some of them could be
already closed now).

Quim, Jesus has sent you a proposal for the definition for the metrics we are
working for. Focusing in the Waiting for review, the way to detect it is to
find the open reviews that are not with a -1 a no patches uploaded after that
-1. In order to validate the current queries we need to close the definition
on that and be sure the code is implementing it.

We are working with this proposal definition right now.

[Bug 70767] New: Do not load full entities when invoking LinkBegin hook

2014-09-12 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=70767

Bug ID: 70767
Summary: Do not load full entities when invoking LinkBegin hook
   Product: MediaWiki extensions
   Version: unspecified
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: Unprioritized
 Component: WikidataRepo
  Assignee: wikidata-b...@lists.wikimedia.org
  Reporter: aude.w...@gmail.com
CC: wikidata-b...@lists.wikimedia.org
   Web browser: ---
   Mobile Platform: ---

We load full entities for the onLinkBegin hook handler in Wikibase Repo in
order to get a label.

e.g. for each item or property on Special:Allpages, we load the entity to get
the label.

a term lookup, with caching and all, should be used instead.

LinkBegin is also used in places like Special:Watchlist (i think), so if
someone has a gigantic watchlist, it probably will timeout.

I think I'd still rather just reimplement pending for our own Cucumber World

 another dependency (#2).

Sounds good to me! :)

Yes, it seems that all affected user does not have a date in the
user_registration field on the user table. When using the wrong method in
mediawiki the NULL from the database gets handled as a now.

In other words User::getRegistration can return null and needs use of
wfTimestampOrNull() instead of wfTimestamp() to get the unix timestamp (or
null).
