I cannot edit the following page using MobileFrontend:
https://he.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D7%95%D7%99%D7%A7%D7%99%D7%A4%D7%93%D7%99%D7%94:%D7%91%D7%95%D7%93%D7%A7/%D7%91%D7%A7%D7%A9%D7%95%D7%AA_%D7%9C%D7%91%D7%93%D7%99%D7%A7%D7%94/%D7%90%D7%A8%D7%9B%D7%99%D7%95%D7%9F_18

This is despite I'm logged in as Amire80 and I have sysop rights.

This may have something to with the fact that the page is protected to
autopatrolled users, a level that is special to the Hebrew Wikipedia, but it
may also happen for an entirely different reason.

(And I'm sorry about the very long and ugly URL.)

These short descriptions are quite useful.

What about copying this to core as pywikibot/README.rst and scripts/README.rst
, and have a test that verifies all py files are mentioned in the appropriate
file.

Or copy these one line descriptions into the docstrings of each file, if it is
better.

With at least
https://git.wikimedia.org/commit/pywikibot%2Fcore.git/71ccd1267c2407fc3fea1210c5f442edb7f6d9c3
Link.parse supports interwiki links without any title (so [[en:]] for example).
So the bot ifself should substitute '' with the mainpage. I previously wanted
to add it but John pointed out that it's problematic:

https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/#/c/161671/1/pywikibot/page.py,cm

So I'm not sure what we can do about that here. Maybe Page.__init__ does change
'' automatically to mainpage or so.

[Bug 72878] New: mr-wikibooks requests support for Template:Random Subpage

2014-11-02 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=72878

Bug ID: 72878

   Product: MediaWiki

  Hardware: All

Status: NEW
  Severity: normal

 Component: Templates
  Assignee: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org

   Mobile Platform: ---

Hi,

At mr wikibooks we are looking for support for
https://mr.wikibooks.org/wiki/साचा:अविशिष्ट_उपपान which is an equivalent of
Template:Random Subpage.

साचा:अविशिष्ट_उपपान was imported from mr-wikipedia works ok at mr-wikipedia but
not working at mr-wikibooks. I am looking for support upgrade where in usage of
the template would not be too defficult for a lay person like me. At the same
time stable, supported and ok in security point of view.

Every other wiki seems to be using some different code for Template:Random
Subpage and I am confused as of now.

Local support request is at
https://mr.wikibooks.org/wiki/विकिबुक्स:चावडी#साचा:अविशिष्ट_उपपान

Thanks and best wishes

The request could make sense for Wikidata, but we could devise use case for

[Bug 72879] New: support statements on properties in changeops

2014-11-02 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=72879

Bug ID: 72879
   Summary: support statements on properties in changeops
   Product: MediaWiki extensions
   Version: unspecified
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: Unprioritized
 Component: WikidataRepo

CC: wikidata-b...@lists.wikimedia.org
   Web browser: ---
   Mobile Platform: ---

While https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/#/c/170576/ addresses this issue in
ChangeOpClaim, we have use of $entity-getClaims() in other ChangeOp classes:

./ChangeOpClaimRemove.php:$claims = new Claims( $entity-getClaims() );
./ChangeOpMainSnak.php:$claims = new Claims( $entity-getClaims() );
./ChangeOpQualifier.php:$claims = new Claims( $entity-getClaims() );
./ChangeOpQualifierRemove.php:$claims = new Claims( $entity-getClaims() );
./ChangeOpReference.php:$claims = new Claims( $entity-getClaims() );
./ChangeOpReferenceRemove.php:$claims = new Claims( $entity-getClaims() );
./ChangeOpsMerge.php:foreach ( $this-fromItem-getClaims() as
$fromClaim ) {
./ChangeOpsMerge.php:foreach ( $this-toItem-getClaims() as $claim ) {
./ChangeOpStatementRank.php:$claims = new Claims( $entity-getClaims() );

For an Item, that returns claims. For Property, getClaims() is not implemented
so uses Entity::getClaims which returns an empty array!

This is going to be problematic for statements on properties, as well as
perhaps other issues in ChangeOps. (and simply the confusion about Claims vs.
Statements, since the api modules are called things like 'wbsetclaim')

Our teacher discovered he cannot assign a second article to a student (when he
clicks the page refreshes but the article is not there). I tried to replicate
it and it seems that the addition of 2nd (or 3rd) article is impossible when
any of the preceding articles was non-existent at the moment of addition.

It happens on both Czech and English Wikipedia.

This is closely related to bug 57608. It happens because the extension does not
have a very good way of handling non-existent articles, since it normally
tracks articles by their page ID -- and non-existent articles don't have one.

No need to apologize! It's good to have this issue tracked in a bug. It's

[Bug 72884] New: Table of contents doesn't account for HTML bdi tags

Page (correct) vs. TOC (incorrect)

BDI is an HTML 5 tag which tells the browser to isolate a section of
bidirectional text.(http://www.w3schools.com/tags/tag_bdi.asp)

Wikimedia correctly renders BDI tags, but it ignores them when generating the
table of contents for a page.

For the following wikitext:
 bdi[[User:مسعود بوکانی|مسعود بوکانی]]/bdi (28 edits)

... the TOC renders the HTML as:
span class=tocnumber2.76/span span class=toctextمسعود بوکانی (28
edits)/span

 the page renders the HTML as:
bdia
href=/wiki/User:%D9%85%D8%B3%D8%B9%D9%88%D8%AF_%D8%A8%D9%88%DA%A9%D8%A7%D9%86%DB%8C
title=User:مسعود بوکانیمسعود بوکانی/a/bdi

You can view this in action at
https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?oldid=138431886.

I've attached screenshots for Chrome (one of the browsers which supports the
tag).

[Bug 60366] Wikidata should offer BEACON files to improve GLAM connections

2014-11-02 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=60366

--- Comment #4 from Thomas Berger t...@gymel.com ---
Well, actually Magnus Manske has set up most of the requested functionality at
http://tools.wmflabs.org/wikidata-todo/beacon.php

If you select distinct WD properties for Property and Source it essentially
generates a two column table mapping the values of the Source property to
values of the Property property and the head field #TARGET provides an URL
template to construct an actionable URL from values taken from the right hand
column. Typical use cases are to have some authority control numbers in the
left column (not necessarily web actionable) and identifiers for interesting
stuff on the web in the right column.

Example: http://tools.wmflabs.org/wikidata-todo/beacon.php?prop=535source=214
maps from VIAF (P214) to the Find-a-Grave site (P535).

In this example a third party (database like) site which happens to know the
VIAF identifiers for its stuff may consummate the BEACON file provided by
Wikidata and subsequently is able to provide its users with links to the Find A
Grave website. In this scenario wikidata is merely a provider for mapping data.

Real example with GND identifiers (P227):
http://www.deutsche-biographie.de/sfz118147.html is a biographical article from
the Neue Deutsche Biographie and has a tab Weitere Informationen (further
information): Any link there (with the exception of GND and VIAF) is based
on BEACON files they import into their web application.

IMHO Magnus' tool should suffice to exploit wikidata's parenthetic ability to
provide mappings between two external identifier systems.

Now, if Wikidata (or its Q-Numbers) are one of the participants in a mapping,
some enhancements could be favourable:

E.g. VIAF provides resolving services, i.e. it supports the crafting of URLs
constructed from identifiers of its constituents:
viaf.org/viaf/sourceID/DNB|119186187 gives access to the VIAF cluster of the
person above based on its GND identifier 119186187 thus obliviating the need to
first determine the correcponding VIAF identifier. User APPER on the German
Wikipedia has set up a service to achieve the same for de.wikipedia.org,
http://tools.wmflabs.org/persondata/redirect/gnd/de/{ID}  . Consequently the
BEACON file http://tools.wmflabs.org/persondata/beacon/dewiki.txt just mentions
the GND identifiers known to the target, making it a single-column table, since
the task of identifier mapping is shifted from the BEACON file to the target
resolver. Consumers of this BEACON file simply insert the appropriate
identifiers into the target URL pattern to achieve a mapping to the German
Wikipedia: http://tools.wmflabs.org/persondata/redirect/gnd/de/119186187 and
users of that link are redirected to
https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heinrich_Sproemberg .

Now Wikidata could provide for any identifier-like property (most importantly
those categorized under authority control a similar kind of resolving
functionality ( http://www.wikidata.org/resolver/P227/{ID} ) and a
corresponding BEACON file would list the resolver URL pattern as #TARGET and
otherwise list all *values* of P227 (only for these the resolver would yield a
non-empty result). Wether the resolver should resolve to the raw wikidata
item page or rather a prettified reasonator presentation would be open to
settlement.

More interesting perhaps would be a variant where sitelinks are exploited:
http://www.wikidata.org/resolver/P227/en/{ID} would directly redirect to the
corresponding article on en.wikipedia.org and the corresponding BEACON file
would list the subset of values of P227 occurring in wikidata items having a
sitelink to en.wikipedia. This would be a symmetric counterpart to the wikidata
use inside en.wikipedia: The authority control template there traditionally
only list the VIAF number but pulls in identifiers for a major number of
different authority control systems from Wikidata.

For P227 and de.wikipedia (also de.wikisource and commons) this setup would
provide the exact same functionality as APPER's on wmflabs, for LCCN, VIAF, ...
and other authority control properties and/or sites other than de.wikipedia it
would be something new allowing library catalogs utilizing VIAF or LCCN or
SUDOC numbers to provide links to en.wikipedia, fr.wikipedia and so on in a
much more lightweight fashion than to explicitly store the titles of the
individual articles in their database.

On Bugzilla (where I cannot edit, as I am not registered there), John F. Lewis
replied to Bene's proposal with 'In the core as a feature - yeah but likely to
be obsoleted by plain merging?' I do not know what 'plain merging' is, but
between the 'merge' tool and the 'move' tool there is a big difference. With
merge, you move all information (all sitelinks, properties, labels etc.) to
another item. With the move tool, you can move 1 sitelink if it is just placed
on the wrong item, leaving the rest of the item as it is. Bever (talk) 06:08,

[Bug 72885] New: Dry tests aren't dry without explicit dry = True

2014-11-02 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=72885

Bug ID: 72885
   Summary: Dry tests aren't dry without explicit dry = True
   Product: Pywikibot
   Version: core (2.0)
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: Unprioritized
 Component: tests
  Assignee: pywikipedia-b...@lists.wikimedia.org
  Reporter: commodorefabia...@gmx.de
   Web browser: ---
   Mobile Platform: ---

Unless a test is explicitly defined with dry = True it won't be in “dry”
mode. For example https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/170577 couldn't work when dry,
as it then needs to be set source explicitly:

ERROR: test_valid (tests.link_tests.TestLink)
--
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File /home/xzise/Programms/core/tests/link_tests.py, line 33, in test_valid

  File /home/xzise/Programms/core/tests/aspects.py, line 266, in __init__
% (fam, code))
SiteDefinitionError: Loading site test:test during dry test not permitted

As nose executes dry test it shouldn't have passed jenkins. Because the test
worked on Travis (
https://travis-ci.org/wikimedia/pywikibot-core/jobs/39753290#L549 ) so it's
probably not related to jenkins, tox or nose.

Querying 'self.dry' inside a test returned True so it's not like it doesn't set
anything.

Note that besides other security vectors, there's also a DOS vector. Small
.less files that generate several gigabytes of output and consume large amounts
of CPU for long periods of time can be made.

[Bug 72886] New: Recent XML dump files break mwxml2sql

2014-11-02 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=72886

Bug ID: 72886
   Summary: Recent XML dump files break mwxml2sql
   Product: Datasets
   Version: unspecified
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: blocker
  Priority: Unprioritized

Dear Sir or Madam,

0) Context

`mwxml2sql' is a utility for rapidly converting published XML dump files into
SQL files for the `page', `revision', and `text' tables. These SQL files may
then be rapidly imported into a database.

1) Breaking change in XML dump file schema

XML dump files using schema `export-0.8.xsd' are processed by `mwxml2sql'.
XML dump files using schema `export-0.9.xsd' break `mwxml2sql'.

2) Example of error

(shell)$ rsync
ftpmirror.your.org::wikimedia-dumps/simplewiki/20141025/simplewiki-20141025-pages-meta-current.xml.bz2

[Bug 72885] Dry tests aren't dry without explicit dry = True

2014-11-02 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=72885

--- Comment #1 from Fabian commodorefabia...@gmx.de ---
Okay a quick test reveals that the metaclass just checks the variables directly
set in the class and not in the subclasses.

In theory the subclass would've to check the subclassed classes and so on and
read dry from there. This is for example also when I'm using WikidataTestCase
instead of DefaultDrySiteTestCase.
