[Wikidata-bugs] [Maniphest] T180345: Add monolingual language code vi-hani, ko-kore

(proposal here

It was rejected at the time but I still think that would be the best way to do
it and perhaps it would be a good idea to revisit it.
  >

  I also proposed a chữ Nôm property
 for lexemes
that was similarly rejected in favor of a semantically distinct property
. I remain convinced about the
need for the property I proposed, but I haven’t had a chance to press that
point. For the time being, there isn’t really a path to bring the Vietnamese
Wiktionary’s large body of chữ Nôm data to Wikidata in a semantically correct
way.

  Anyhow, that proposal only made sense in the context of a lexeme. A “chữ Nôm
name” property on an item would have to be qualified by applies to name of item
(P5168) , with a constraint that
it could only apply to a Vietnamese label, and there would have to be separate
properties for “chữ Nôm given name”, “chữ Nôm birth name”, “chữ Nôm
inscription”, etc. I think a monolingual language code would be cleaner.

  Another issue is that the Vietnamese Wikisource currently hosts a number of
older Vietnamese works with the Latin and chữ Nôm transcriptions either side by
side  or on
separate pages .
I suspect that, in the long term, better supporting this diglossia will require
software support for `vi-hani` as a language code somewhere or other.

[Wikidata-bugs] [Maniphest] T270777: Wikibase Client won't let ParserTests delete articles during cleanup

2020-12-23 Thread cscott
cscott created this task.
cscott added projects: Parsoid, MediaWiki-extensions-WikibaseClient.
Restricted Application added a subscriber: Aklapper.
Restricted Application added a project: Wikidata.

TASK DESCRIPTION
  The parser tests framework has a four-phase setup when running parsertests:
  1: (once) Initialize a temporary test database
  2: (once) Set up various globals / reset services
  3: (per-file) Add articles to the test database (depends on language and
title codec settings in previous step)
  4: (per-test) Final configuration, driven by the !!options and !!config
settings for a specific test

  Afterwards, cleanup runs in reverse order:
  4: (per-test) Undo configuration changes and options
  3: (per-file) Remove articles from the test database
  2: (once) Reset globals and services
  1: (once) Tear down the database

  There are two different parser test 'runners' -- one is driven by a CLI and
provides a large # of helpful debugging tools and ways to render/update failing
tests. The other one is driven by the PHPUnit framework as a "suite" of tests,
and (at the present) runs the steps like this:

  1: (once) Set up the database (in `ParserTestTopLevelSuite::setUp()`)
  3: (per-file) Add articles (in `ParserTestFileSuite::setUp()`)
  2: (per-test) Set up globals and services (in
`ParserIntegrationTest::setUp()`)
  4: (per-test) Test-specific setup (in `ParserTestRunner::runTest`)

  Note that because steps 2 and 3 happen in the "wrong" order, the "add
Articles" step 3 needs to re-run parts of the "setup globals and services" code
in order to properly initialize the namespaces and title codec, and then it
cleans up after itself before re-doing this in step 2.

  Here's the bug:
  ---

  **The article clean up in step 3 is failing when quibble runs integrated
tests with Wikibase installed.**

  The exception looks like this when stack trace dumping code is added:

  This exception is silently discarded because it occurs in `tearDown` code,
and the fact that "extra" articles are defined for subsequent parser tests
*usually* doesn't have any effect.

  But if we attempt to combine steps 2 and 3 in a single `setUp` / `tearDown`
clause, then the exception thrown prevents the rest of the `tearDown` from
running, which does eventually cause failures.

  There's something wrong with the way the `ArticleDeleteComplete` hook is
being run, that's causing an exception when Wikibase is installed. Perhaps
wikibase isn't being configured correctly? But I'm at a bit of a loss to
figure out why.

[Wikidata-bugs] [Maniphest] T180345: Add monolingual language code vi-hani, ko-kore

 is in fact Kore (meaning ko-Kore as a code is redundant in the eyes of a
number of organizations).

  The thing with the "Kore" script tag is that, it indicate mixed use of Korean
Hangul (Phonetic) and Hanja (Ideographic) characters, but it didn't indicate
the ratio.
  Currently in regular Korean text, almost everything are being written in
Hangul. But from time to time there can still be a few common shorthand Hanja
characters in use in Korean text, in addition pf writing out Hanja as
disambiguation in some situation. So I guess you can say it is a mixed script
as well.
  On the other hand, what I originally have in mind was that, since many Korean
term, especially proper noun, are originated or created based on Han characters
and that they can be written as Hanja completely, it would not be possible to
write Hanja for terms natively used in Korean or terms imported from Western
languages in modern time. Such that, there are terms that can partially be
written in Hanja but other parts need to be written as Hangul instead, like
"Seoul Special City" or "Asiana Airlines", thus constitute another forn of
mixed usage.
  I guess one can say it should use the "Hani" script tag instead since the
intention is to show the Hanja characters of the terms, but then a problem is I
don't think Hangul characters are to be expected for the Hani scripte value?

[Wikidata-bugs] [Maniphest] T53660: Detect the edit state for modules which help users and helpers

2020-12-23 Thread Izno
Izno closed this task as "Invalid".
Izno added a comment.

  I'm going to close this invalid. Detecting whether a page is being previewed,
the sensible case for this, is already supported in wikitext and in Lua. If you
need the exact syntax for Lua, see
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:If_preview or search for REVISIONID in
module namespace (I do not know the wikitext version offhand). My understanding
is that this method of detecting preview is supported and will continue to be
supported.

  It is not obvious to me if other edit states need warnings. If they do,
please feel free to reopen and clearly layout how and why. (Particularly,
perhaps in the edit without preview state it would be nice to provide a
warning; that is a very hard problem not likely to be solved any time soon but
otherwise a valid task.)

[Wikidata-bugs] [Maniphest] T90881: Framework for checking sources on Wikidata (Does the source actually say what we claim it says?)

2020-12-23 Thread diego
diego added a comment.

  Hi all

  This problem is called Natural Language Inference (NLI) also known as textual
entitlement . It is a super hot problem now in the NLP community, but imho
research is still far away from producing usable tools in the Wikipedia
context. This also requires a lot of computational resources (GPUs) to train.

  Anyhow, I'm exploring if would be possible to create a usable API where you
could send a claim and a document and the API will tell the relation between
those pieces (confirm, reject, no information). I think the algorithm won't
work well with subtle issues (eg. the references is talking about the main
topic of the item, but does not content the specific information about the
claim), but could be able to catch if the document (reference) is completely
unrelated.

  I'll keep you updated.

[Wikidata-bugs] [Maniphest] T270764: Wikidata Truthy dump is missing important metadata triples

2020-12-23 Thread VladimirAlexiev
VladimirAlexiev created this task.
VladimirAlexiev added a project: Wikidata.
Restricted Application added a subscriber: Aklapper.

TASK DESCRIPTION
  The "Wikidata Truthy" dump is missing the statements after the blank line
(has only those above the blank line):

data:Q131171 a schema:Dataset ;
schema:about wd:Q131171 ;
schema:version "1304894739"^^xsd:integer ;
schema:dateModified "2020-11-10T21:06:45Z"^^xsd:dateTime ;

cc:license  ;
schema:softwareVersion "1.0.0" ;
wikibase:statements "59"^^xsd:integer ;
wikibase:sitelinks "71"^^xsd:integer ;
wikibase:identifiers "39"^^xsd:integer .

  These are useful statements for ranking entities. Could we please have them?

  I've asked my colleagues to report which version of the Truthy dump (I think
we got it 5-6m ago).
  I don't know whether the statements are present in the full dump.

  I'd just like to note that the Suppress-Script value for Korean according to
the official subtag registry

 is in fact Kore (meaning ko-Kore as a code is redundant in the eyes of a
number of organizations).

  One question for anyone who knows: What does this mean for the Wikimedia
