Re: [Wikimedia-l] Wikimedia Sweden loses copyright suit

2016-04-05 Thread Lilburne
You still haven't got it right. What you can't do is publish a database
of images for commercial use.

If I were to go to Sweden take photos of every publicly placed work of
art and put them on a website
there wouldn't be an issue. If I were to put them on a website and
announce that they could be used

by commercial enterprises for any purpose then I would have a problem.

Its the creation of a database of images for commercial reuse that is
the problem.

Supreme Court Justice Lars Edlund has expressly contradicted

Hi Anne,

The Foundation has come around that idea in 2006/2007 until 2012. [1] In
that period is full voting member of the Audit Committee, later joined by a
few others. On October 26nd, 2012 the Board passed a resolution to change
the charter of the Audit Committee. [2] Among other things, outsiders in
the committee lost their voting rights. That is something that happened
after I left the Audit Committee. I don't know why the voting rights where
removed.

Hi, Erika.

I was referring to the Wikipedia Education Program (the global one), and
specifically the Collab, a group of WikiEDU leaders from around the world,
*not* the Wiki Education Foundation (which is basically the US education
program). It's very confusing, I know! :)

In any case, our efforts focus exactly on what you've described -- we've
noticed that different parties seem to work on the same thing and are doing
what we can to create global awareness and open up a dialogue about it, so
we can learn from each other's efforts, as well as come up with a
successful "recipe" for those who want to start one.

Best,
Shani.

2016-04-05 Thread Brill Lyle
I am curious about the overlap -- if any -- between the WikiMOOC
initiatives and WikiEdu. It seems like these are inter-related initiatives
that duplicate efforts to some degree? I understand WikiEdu is focused on
North America, so maybe that answers the question, but it sounds very
frustrating that these efforts are not more connected somehow. The WikiEdu
Dashboard is very cool!

I am also wondering about user metrics, and how they were measured.
Apologies, I clicked through many of the original links but didn't see that
information quickly / easily.

[Wikimedia-l] [Freedom of Panorama] Sign our online petition !

2016-04-05 Thread Anne-Laure Prévost
Dear all,

On the occasion of the drafting of the Digital republic bill - which you
may have heard of - Wikimedia France has been involved, for the past 8
months, in raising awareness among politicians on the concept of freedom of
panorama, which would allow many recent buildings to be illustrated on
Wikipedia and Commons, especially.

Currently, the text of the bill is being studied in the Senate. For now,
the amendment proposed integrates a non commercial restriction, which is in
contradiction with the licenses used on our projects. It is therefore
necessary for the bill to be modified.

We need to show that such a debate mobilizes the public opinion : you can
support our action by signing our online petition [1] and spreading the
word as much as possible !

Thank you for your help !

Re: [Wikimedia-l] A Massive Online Open Course about Wikipedia

2016-04-05 Thread Shani
Hi all,

The Wikipedia Education Program
 (more
specifically, the Wiki Education Collaborative
),
has been following the development of WikiMOOCs across our movement. Our
hope was to create dialogue and share experiences between various chapters
/ groups / individuals who are working on the same idea -- creating a wiki
MOOC -- across the Wikiverse.

So far, we've had an initial online meeting

(which was recorded) with reps from Argentina, Mexico, Sweden, Israel & the
Education team at WMF. One of the outcomes of this meeting was the
understanding that before we continue, we need to learn more about existing
experiences and curate what is already happening. The result was an
interview with Pete Forsyth
,
who's run a MOOC in the US, as well as an interview with reps from the
French Chapter,

Mathieu
Denel & Jules Xénard, who have run the MOOC Emeric just reported on.

I hope the above links might help those who interested in the idea.
Also, we are planning a second WikiMOOCs meeting soon, so if any chapter /
group / individuals are interested in joining us, please let me know. :)

Cheers,
Shani.
