[Wikimedia-l] Cluster ban on most Wikimedia IRC channels on Freenode

2016-10-01 Thread Maarten Dammers

Hi,

Today a ban was set on #wikimedia-bans that bans any user who is not
authenticated to the nickserv from joining a channel (
[BanList:#wikimedia-bans] $~a set by AlexZ on 10/01/16 09:19 AM ).
#wikimedia-bans is inherited by most Wikimedia channels so a lot of
people get banned messages. I tried poking the people mentioned at
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/IRC/Group_Contacts , but none of them
seem to be online. Can anyone help out here and fix this? Any idea why
we would have a ban like that in the first place? That's like blocking
logged out users from editing our projects.

Maarten

[Wikimedia-l] Call for help with the LGBT+ Featured Picture competition

2016-10-01 Thread
We are getting ready to launch the LGBT+ Featured Picture drive, and
hand out $600 in prizes for winners. :-)

To make this a success lots of help is needed!
If you have language skills, please take a look at the draft banners
proposed at:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Project/Rapid/LGBT/Wiki_Loves_Pride_Featured_Picture_drive_2016/Banners
These should be written to support the different language Wikipedias
that have a Featured Picture nomination process.

There is a draft of the Central Notice request at:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/CentralNotice/Request/Wiki_Loves_Pride_Featured_Picture_drive
We are keen to get the notice agreed in the coming week. Please do
chip in with suggestions or dive in and edit with improvements to the
way the request is written.

If you are interested in taking part in the competition panel or
helping as a friendly volunteer advisor to entrants on how to handle
the Featured Picture nomination processes for Commons or the various
Wikipedia projects, drop me an email; the Featured Picture criteria
and procedures vary between projects so local experience would be a
great help. The grant application is at
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Project/Rapid/LGBT/Wiki_Loves_Pride_Featured_Picture_drive_2016.

Cheers,
Fae

Re: [Wikimedia-l] 2015 - 2016 Fundraising Report just published

2016-10-01 Thread Lodewijk
Hi Sam,

Thanks. One question that I keep hearing from our volunteers, from our real
life organisers and other stakeholders, as well as the press is how the
amounts are broken up by country. This would be very helpful information,
and would help us to place best practices better. It has been asked for
several years in a row now, and it would be great if this information could
be released. I understand there are some privacy concerns for some of the
smaller countries, where you could perhaps round it off to the nearest
round number or something? Both number of donors and amount would be very
helpful! Or is this already being published somewhere?

Thanks,

Lodewijk
