Thanks for letting us know. I have added link to the video to the

I have noticed that they use a few mirrors. Could the format that they are

Should we grab one of these slots?

 Dear All,

FOSDEM is nearing and it is promising to become awesome again.

Like last year, we will provide two 'community meeting rooms' (formerly
 called BoF rooms).

The concept is simple: any project/community can reserve a timeslot (15
minutes to an hour), during which they have the room just for them.

It is meant for ad-hoc discussions, meet-ups or brainstorms. It is not a
replacement for a devroom and it certainly is not meant for talks, so there
will deliberately not be a projector. The rooms are cosy and small with
 around 30ish seats.

Reservation can only be done on site and *during FOSDEM*. The reservation
sheets are at the infodesk in the H building. The rooms are not far from
that infodesk. Reservations are on a first-come, first-serve basis.

+1. I should arrive to Brussels at 5:30pm. I will go to the hotel and then
to the beer event. If anybody else arrives to Brussels around 5:30, we can
go to the hotel together. My theory is that traveling in group increases
chances of arriving to the destination.

I guess we are all at the same hotel (NH Grand Place Arenberg). We can even
go to the event together. Depending on how fast I get to the hotel I could
go to the event around 7-8pm.

No, just that it might not be the easiest place to meet up with people due
to the crowd. It waxes and wanes and it's perfectly fine if you like
crowds/are there early. Otherwise if you're looking for a meetup for MW

Well... In fact, it works like this: a project or a group of projects

manage them.

So what should be done in 2013 is request early a MediaWiki devroom

As someone that has been involved in let's requested a FOSDEM devroom
discussions before, I believe that the outcome actually reflects how fit
your project is to receive new contributors: if you don't make it is
probably because you are not ready for it.

We were not ready for FOSDEM 2013 but I do hope we will be ready for
FOSDEM 2014.

PS: established MediaWiki groups in Brussels, Paris, Amsterdam, London,
Cologne, Berlin etc would definitely contribute to that goal (hint, hint).

sessions fit better. I was lucky since mine is about community, outreach
etc, but a pure technical session...

Looking forward to meeting in you in Brussels!

Re: [Wikitech-l] Going to FOSDEM

An update on this:

Some people listed themselves at
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Events/FOSDEM - thank you! This is
useful and will become more useful as the event approaches.

I have started drafting the proposals for a lighting talk and a
DevRoom session. If any of these gets accepted I will fly to Brussels.
You can help with the drafts. Just edit and comment in the discussion
pages as usual. I will submit both proposals on Monday, not to get too
close to the deadline (Friday 21).

If someone else is thinking about submitting a MediaWiki related
proposal please share your plans in the wiki page.

FOSDEM's lightning talk isn't a format really targeted to big projects.

There are to very small / personal projects, idea, new softwares and
general thoughts.

 http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Events/FOSDEM/2013_-_DevRoom_-_Qgil

A lot better.

The FOSDEM is also populated by people (including CS or IT students)
to get involved in a project (outreach effort). They go to dev rooms
to assist to the talks who attract them (virtually only projects
contributors attend only once devroom, other visitors go from one to
another).

If someone else is thinking about submitting a MediaWiki related
proposal please share your plans in the wiki page.

We have one full day of talks to give.

When you send the proposal, as we're very short for delays please
already include the information asked by FOSDEM team:
* Your name
* The title of your talk (please be descriptive, as titles will be
listed with ~250 from other projects)
* A short abstract of one to two paragraphs
* A short biography introducing yourself
* Links to related websites/blogs etc.

Ideal duration: 1h
