The Wireless Battle of the Mesh is going live for its 15th edition. This
time for a full *week* again!

The dates and venue have been set by the WBM community:

The Wireless Battle Mesh v15

The next 'Wireless Battle of the Mesh' (Battlemesh) will take place from
Mon 8th - Sun 14th of May 2023 in Calafou (https://calafou.org/) near
Barcelona (Europe).

The Wireless Battle Mesh is a non-commercial, volunteer-organized annual
convention.
The convention features a variety of talks and workshops on technical
and political issues related to mesh networking, wireless community
networks and OpenWrt firmware development.

The purpose of the event is to further topics such as right to
connectivity, community-owned infrastructure and related free open
source projects.

There will be 6 days full of expert presentations, late night hacking
sessions, measurement campaigns, protocol discussions, and a lot of
other meshy things.

So if you are a mesh networking enthusiast, community networking
activist, or have an interest in mesh networks in general, you have to
check this out!

Location


The Battlemesh v15 will be hosted by the fabulous Calafou / colonia
ecoindustrial postcapitalista members in Barcelona, Europe.

The Calafou compound is very spacious and offers plenty of room for
hacking, workshops, socializing, building test beds and more!

You can check some pictures of the spaces at the Battlemesh wiki page.
Instructions on how to arrive by train and from BCN airport will be
provided soon on the same page.

The main location of the Battlemesh (as far as the weather allows it) is 
the Casilino Sky Park, i.e. the roof of the parking next to Fusolab.


To get there enter the parking next to Fusolab to the first floor, then 
walk across the parking towards the entrance of the shopping mall. 
Before the entrance you will find elevators on the left, take them to 
the 4th floor (you should see some directions).

The Battlemesh is going live again for its 14th edition, and we are back 
to a physical event (if circumstances allow) -- back to normal! We have 
a great proposal by the Ninux / Fusolab crew in Rome, Italy [1], and 
want to hear from you about the best dates and durations for this year's 
edition:

RomHack around Battlemesh v14 dates. RomHack [2] camp and conference

But our mission can't be shutdown by a mere 7.5 kilobytes of RNA - there
will be a dedicated mesh developer/community event in 2020!

The rough idea, for now, is to put together a schedule of around 10
interesting presentations, via BigBlueButton (streamcopied to
Peertube/YouTube) and a set of topic-based rooms on a voice chat server
(mumble). For now, things are still flexible - we can change this model
according to the expected number of participants. 
We could also use this event to try running distributed experiments.

Next Steps:
   
1) Please help us find out how many participants we can expect for a
small online event that spans over 2 half-days during a weekend in
November/December. by marking your preferred date here [1];

Hi everyone,

it took me a long time to recognize this, but the nodeshot
 project is dead and I think it's
good for me to officially state my departure from it.

It's been an incredible experience and I want to thank everyone who
contributed and used it in the golden years of Ninux (2012-2017) and
other communities.

I moved onto working full time (again, but this time with my own company
funded by my own consulting work) on OpenWISP 2 ,
which is also built in python and django (the first generation was built
in Ruby and Ruby on Rails).

Over the years I tried to migrate some of the features of nodeshot in
OpenWISP, especially those ones about monitoring the status of the
network as seen by dynamic routing protocols
, but I was not
successful in migrating all the features because of lack of resources.

That said, OpenWISP aims to become a framework on which is possible to
build applications like nodeshot on top of it. The project is alive and
steadily growing, there are more users, contributors, companies that use
it and fund its improvement (see the activity feed to verify
), so I encourage anybody that is
still interested in the ideas we were working in nodeshot and want to
contribute to see those come to light to reach us out in the OpenWISP
project .

If anybody wants to maintain the code of nodeshot in its current form,
please get in touch with the Ninux organization administrators which can
give you write access to it.

L'attivazione dei nodi è un processo manuale :( Come si chiama il nodo /
i nodi?

All'epoca dello sviluppo del primo Nodeshot (così si chiama il software
del mapserver) qualcuno aveva proposto OpenStreetMap come base ma
purtroppo ancora moltissime zone non erano mappate  e quindi alla fine
si è optato per Google maps.
Ora Google vorrebbe un numero di carta di credito (non prepagata) per
togliere la patina di grigio dalla mappa, ma finora non ci sono stati
volontari in questo senso.

Guardando il codice, le chiamate alle API di Google sono sparse ovunque
e non sono sicuro che sia sempre possibile una traduzione 1:1 in API
OpenStreetMap.

In più ci sono altre 2 questioni:

1) il codice è scritto in Python 2, che è tramontato [*]. Forse si può
fare una conversione automatica a Python 3 (ma "traduzione automatica"
non mi suona come una cosa affidabile).

2) map.ninux.org gira su una ubuntu 14 che è fuori dalla grazia di
Canonical da 2 anni. Provando a fare il dist-upgrade si rompe tutto.
Comunque probabilmente con un po' di insistenza e di tempo (o con una
reinstallazione e configurazione from scratch) questo problema sarebbe
risolvibile.

Altrimenti penso che si potrebbe utilizzare Nodeshot 2.0, che era stato
sviluppato su OpenStreetMap, e mi sembrava funzionante e operativo (una
istanza funzionante è qui [#]). Poi era stato annunciato l'abbandono
dello sviluppo ma penso solo per mancanza di tempo.

@Nemesis ti metto in cc esplicito. Cosa ne pensi? Nodeshot 2.0 sarebbe
pronto per la produzione?

We would like to share with you some news regarding the organisation of
the next Battlemesh edition here in Paris.
Everything is going smoothly regarding the venue and the rest of the
organisation. Some of the organisers visited again the 6B to see how we
will bring internet to the first floor of the building. It has been much

Building community networks for fun and non-profit

The upcoming 'Wireless Battle of the Mesh' event will take place from
Mon 8th - Sun 14th of July in "Le 6B" in Saint-Denis, near Paris.

The event aims to bring together people from across the globe who are
interested in community networks,including wireless mesh network
technologies, fiber infrastructure, Do-It-Yourself Internet Access
Providers, and more generally how to create and maintain a thriving
community of people involved in building their own networks.

This year, we would like to expand the topics beyond wireless, with a
dual focus on fiber and community.

We envision 7 days full of expert presentations, practical workshops,
late-night hacking sessions, and fruitful discussions:
whether you are a mesh networking enthusiast, community networking
activist, protocol developer, or have an interest in networking in
general, come and join us!

Our location for the main event is "Le 6B", 6-10 quai de Seine, 93200
Saint-Denis, France.

The location is at a 5-10 minutes walk from the "Saint-Denis" railway

both 45 minutes away by public transportation.
Another option is the "Paris Beauvais" airport, located 2h15 away from
the event by public transportation.

Hi, mentors.
In the last days I have received e-mails from two students concerning
this project:

However, I realized that this year, because of a combination of
professional and personal reasons, I cannot commit the time [*] to
follow a student, and I haven't found anybody in ninux who is willing to

Is anybody from the other communities here willing to "adopt" this project?

Otherwise what do you think is the best thing to do? Can we just
withdraw the idea and notify the two students who are interested?

The Wireless Battle of the Mesh v11 (#WBMv11) and the Wireless Community
Weekend 2018 (#FFWCW18) will be meshed up and co-located in Berlin from
May 07 to May 13, 2018.
Since it is the 15th anniversary of the WCW, friends and fellows from
across the globe celebrate together wireless mesh network technologies
and ideas of community networking.

You can expect to meet with tech experts in mesh technologies, policy
discussions, talks, hands on workshops, late night hacking sessions,
measurement campaigns and an ongoing barbeque at the riverside. If you
are a mesh networking enthusiast, community activist, or simply have an
interest in wifi or dynamic routing protocols, you can't miss this event!

Location

We are meeting at the c-base space station, 3 minutes from public
transport S+U Jannowitzbrücke in the heart of Berlin.

There you will find the main hall with the bar for presentations,
discussions and hacking, a seminar room for up to 15 for workshops, two
spaces for a smaller groups in the basement and upper floor and not at
least the fully equipped riverside with powersockets, light close to the
grill station. For the weekend we booked another room for presentations
at European Theater Institute right next door to the seminar room.

You will find yourself at Berlins most famous hackspace, where you can
use repair and assembling shops as well as meeting with berlins net
activists and hacker scene. freifunk.net is available, since the roof
top node is part of the BerlinBackBone.

Sabato 24 marzo 2018 si terrà a Torino *MERGE-it*, prima esperienza di
raduno nazionale tra le diverse associazioni e community italiane che
operano nel vasto e sfaccettato ambito delle libertà digitali. Un
incontro inter-disciplinare per conoscere e far conoscere, scoprire,
approfondire e discutere su contenuti, strumenti, aspetti tecnici ed
implicazioni culturali.

 

L’iniziativa coinvolge *GFOSS.it, Industria Italiana Software Libero,
Italian Linux Society, LibreItalia, Mozilla Italia, Ninux.org,
OpenStreetMap Italia, Spaghetti Open Data, Wikimedia Italia e
Ubuntu-IT*, ed è rivolta soprattutto a coloro che hanno interessi
trasversali tra software libero, open data e cultura condivisa e
vogliono cogliere l’occasione per approfondirli tutti insieme.

 

Il programma si articola in otto sessioni parallele e tematiche che,
*dalle ore 10:00 alle ore 18:00*, saranno animate da talk, attività
operative e dibattiti. L’ingresso è libero e gratuito, e non è
necessaria registrazione.

 

Per la serata di venerdi 23 marzo è previsto anche un aperitivo
informale, per accogliere coloro che verranno da fuori Torino e per
iniziare a conoscersi mangiando e bevendo qualcosa insieme.

Per l'eventuale assemblea avremmo solo un'ora, giusto? In questo caso mi
sembra poco tempo per un'assemblea. Forse sarebbe meglio avere una
tavola rotonda tematica. Come temi mi vengono in mente net neutrality,
privacy e autoprovisioning di servizi, licenze di peering o la RED.

Hi all,

As mentors of the WBMv11 edition, Claudio, Filipe, and Paul have
traveled to Berlin in Germany from December 1-3, 2017 for the
traditional reconnaissance mission, where we met the local team. This is
the recon report with the main conclusions. 

* Main event description * 
As there is a big intersection of participants between the Wireless
Battlemesh and Wireless Community Weekend, the idea for this year's
edition is to join the forces and co-locate the two events, organizing
them under a common umbrella, the "Wireless Mesh-Up". We have been
working with the local team to create a rough schedule and see the best
way to combine the characteristics of the two events. 

* Scheduling * 
Since we have put the two events together and keeping the same one-week
WBM structure, we precede the Wireless Community weekend, which was
already scheduled for 11th to 13th of May. Therefore the WBMv11 edition,
together with WCW 2018 will happen from 7-13 May 2018.

* Location * 
Since the WBMv11 will be co-located with WCW 2018, we will keep the
c-base space station, Berlin, Terra as the event location. We have
visited the space station to check if space was enough to fit in the
targeted 100 people peak. Although space can be a little short on peak
times, we believe there should be enough space during the week: we are
free to use the main room, the Ceminarroom, the outdoor garden and other
small spaces at ground level and at the lower level. Beverages are
available on site and Barbeque will happen from Friday to Sunday. During
the week there will be different food options, whether on-site or
nearby. We have confirmed the sponsorship from Förderverein freie
Netzwerke e.V. that covers the room costs so far.

* Internet Access * 
c-base is a fundamental node of Berlin's Freifunk network, so we expect
no issues here.

* Accommodation * 
Two different facilities were visited: hotel meininger at ostbahnhof and
City-Stay hostel. They offer triple rooms and 4-bed dorms at affordable
prices. Both locations were close to c-base by public transports. An
accommodation package is under negotiation and should remain under 200 EUR.

* Social Events * 
Social events are planned to happen from Wednesday - Friday. We have
discussed some ideas, but the local team will provide more details
closer to the event. 

* Travel * 
Berlin is very well connected with flights, from low-cost companies to
legacy ones in two international airports: Tegel Airport (TXL) and
Schönefeld Airport (SXF). Public transport (train) is available between
airports and city center.

* Cost estimation * 
We estimate the accommodation package to cost around 150-200 euros.
There is no registration fee.

*Local organization*
The local core team consists of Monic Meisel, with helping hands of
Andi, Cven, and others from Freifunk community The local team was very
helpful and motivated, with a lot of logistic details taken care already.

Ciao, Stefanauss.
Hai ragione. Ho approssimato 1 mese == 4 settimane, ma non funziona.
"L'ultimo lunedi' del mese" e' piu' facile da ricordare de "il quarto
lunedi' del mese". Quindi direi di fare il meeting IRC il 29 gennaio.
Sempre dalle 21 alle 22.

A quanto pare l'opzione preferita per il meeting IRC ninux e' l'ultimo
lunedi' del mese dalle 21 alle 22, con prossimo meeting IRC il 22
gennaio prossimo.

Comunque se abbiamo bisogno di un meeting IRC prima, per esempio per
parlare al piu' presto della partecipazione a merge-it [*], possiamo
organizzare un meeting IRC "straordinario" nei prossimi giorni o ad
inizio gennaio.

Apprezzo molto l'integrazione di Stefanauss, riconosco che in effetti la

Pero' non riconoscere la legittimita' dell'assemblea del Ninux Day,

Dal primo sondaggio risulta che l'opzione preferita e' di incontrarsi
una volta al mese.

Le date si riferiscono a gennaio ma il giorno della settimana e la
settimana all'interno del mese verranno "replicati" sugli altri mesi.
Per esempio scegliere il 17 gennaio alle 21,  equivale a scegliere le 21
del mercoledi' della terza settimana di ogni mese.

Il sondaggio ha molte opzioni, ma la vita e' fatta di trade-off :P

Come spiegavo nella mia e-mail iniziale del thread, fare entrambe le
domande allo stesso tempo secondo me non ha tanto senso perche' scelta
della frequenza del meeting e scelta di giorno della settimana e ora
sono interdipendenti.

Durante il Ninux Day si e' deciso di riprendere gli incontri su IRC, e
l'assemblea mi ha delegato di creare un poll per decidere quando.

Gli incontri/meeting Ninux su IRC sono riunioni nazionali di tutta la
comunita' ninux che si tengono sul canale #ninux.org di freenode.

Stavolta l'idea e' di decidere un giorno fisso e una cadenza fissa
(invece prima decidevamo data e ora dell'incontro successivo volta per
volta).

Comunque le tre decisioni: cadenza, giorno e ora potrebbero essere
piuttosto interdipendenti, quindi la mia proposta e' di dividere la
votazione in due fasi: nella prima fase decidere ogni quanto fare i
meeting e poi una volta deciso, decidere nella seconda fase giorno e ora
in cui fare i meeting.

Il problema dovrebbe essere risolto.

Per i curiosi e "for the records", il demone celery non si avviava piu'
perche' non esisteva piu' la directory /var/run/celery . Si vede che in
qualche aggiornamento del sistema operativo /var/run e' diventato un
link simbolico a /run che e' di tipo tmpfs che quindi "ricomincia da
zero" a ogni avvio.

cercando di debuggarlo.
In ogni caso il problema non e' certamente legato alla cancellazione
(momentanea) della pagina GestioneIndirizzi.

e' la password che imposti nel client Wi-Fi ma la chiave "di sessione"

The Google security team identified a number of critical security
issues present in dnsmasq, the embedded DNS and DHCP server used by
LEDE as well as many other different open and proprietary firmwares and
network appliances.

A total of six different flaws affecting both DNS and DHCP
functionality have been identified in dnsmasq versions up to v2.77:

 - CVE-2017-14491 - Remote code execution, through DNS,
due to heap overflow
 - CVE-2017-14492 - Remote code execution, through DHCP,
due to heap overflow
 - CVE-2017-14493 - Remote code execution, through DHCP,
due to stack overflow
 - CVE-2017-14494 - Information leak, through DHCP,
potentially weakening ASLR
 - CVE-2017-14495 - Denial of service, through DNS,
out-of-memory due missing free()
 - CVE-2017-14496 - Denial of service, through DNS,
integer underflow causing huge memcpy()
 - CVE-2017-13704 - Denial of service, through DNS,
integer underflow causing service crash

According to Simon Kelley, the author of dnsmasq, most critical flaws
are present in dnsmasq since a very long time, having even survived a
number of audits.

The security issues have been fixed in the most recent dnsmasq
version, v2.78, which has been included into both the LEDE master and
lede-17.01 release branches.


MITIGATION

In order to solve the security issues above you can either update the
dnsmasq package through opkg:

  opkg update
  opkg upgrade dnsmasq

Or update to a newer LEDE image. Master snapshots newer than revision
r4969-67ac017fef and the upcoming LEDE release 17.01.3 images already
contain a fixed dnsmasq version.


WORKAROUND

There is no secure workaround available, though the attack surface can
be reduced somewhat by disabling the DNS service part of dnsmasq and
only allowing trusted hosts to obtain DHCP leases in the local
network.

In order to disable the DNS service, issue the following commands:

  uci set dhcp.@dnsmasq[0].port="0"
  uci add_list dhcp.lan.dhcp_option="6,8.8.8.8"
  uci commit dhcp
  /etc/init.d/dnsmasq restart

This will stop dnsmasq from serving DNS requests and instruct all
DHCP clients to use Google's public DNS server instead of the router
itself for name resolution.

Non so come sia andata dal punto di vista dei conti a Firenze.

Per quanto riguarda Roma, se non ricordo male al Ninux Day 2009 parte
dei soldi venivano da un progetto di ricerca, mentre nel 2013 l'evento
era ospitato da Fusolab e quindi non abbiamo avuto grosse spese.

The time has come to take action to keep the Internet infrastructure
open!

After our meetings last week at the European Parliament, we saw that
there is still lots of work to do! Many MEPs agree with netCommons and
LQDN positions on supporting community networks and non-profit ISP,
however all are pending of the will of the conservatives (EPP and ECR)
that has the majority. 
This is the people we need to call and convince of the importance of
your work!

The IMCO (internal market) committee will vote on the Electronic Code of
Communication on 22 June and ITRE (Industry, Research and Energy), the
11 July. We do not have much time!

Now we need to call them so they don't lock down the opportunities for
CNs and non-profit ISP to keep providing a human and decentralised
Internet.

Signal è riconosciuto come uno degli strumenti più validi per quanto
riguarda la messaggistica privata, avendo tutte le caratteristiche
desiderabili a livello di protocollo e algoritmi e un'usabilità pari ai
più diffusi prodotti commerciali. Si tratta purtroppo di un servizio
centralizzato, i cui server sono interamente gestiti da una specifica
entità.

I software che implementano il servizio (server e client) supportano
però la federazione, è quindi possibile costruire una rete
decentralizzata e indipendente. Il talk vuole esporre il lavoro che
abbiamo fatto in questo senso in HacklabBo.

Felix, Imre and myself had 2 calls last week lasting several hours and
discussed the following proposal of conditions for a remerge that we
would like to propose and have people vote on.

*) branding
- the owrt side sees no option of using the lede brand

- a (minor) majority voted for openwrt as a name over lede whilst most
people said they did not care

- as the last vote had a 100% ACK for a remerge using the owrt brand is
the only feasible option

*) domain
- transfer owner ship to SPI for openwrt.org and lede-project.org
- add them to the pool of urls at digital ocean
- post remerge build a setup where we have several DNS servers in
various locations
- point git.openwrt.org at the lede git server
- point bugs.openwrt.org to the lede flyspray instance
- keep both wikis and forums as is (we should decide post remerge how to
proceed to avoid these issues blocking the progress)
- update the lede domain entries for build/download/rsync/... servers so
that the openwrt domain also points at them

*) SPI
- TBD post remerge

*) github
- stop pushing to lede-project organisation
- start pushing to the openwrt organisation
- cleanup the list of owners in the openwrt organisation
- obsolete all issues on the openwrt organisation and close the issue
tracker

Ciao, Claudio.
Forse vi converrebbe non annunciare la 0/0 e usare tunnel. Rispetto a
IPIP, GRE ha il vantaggio che su Linux la sua implementazione consente
di non specificare l'endpoint remoto su uno dei due endpoint (vedi il
link che tu hai postato sopra).

Il policy routing sarebbe piu' efficiente (eviti l'incapsulamento), ma
complica parecchio le configurazioni. L'ideale sarebbe credo usare il
source-specific routing [*].

A me invece non piace phpipam, almeno cosi' com'e' ora.

Innanzitutto ha una schermata di login, che secondo me andrebbe
tolta/automatizzata, e abbiamo toccato con mano che le sue API non sono
per niente stabili :((

Sarei invece favorevole all'uso di phpipam (o qualcosa di simile, magari
python-based :P) se qualcuno di noi prendesse in mano il suo
sviluppo/personalizzazione.

E comunque tenete conto che abbiamo anche un'altra ridondanza con gli
indirizzi nei mapserver...

 - fare una mini-conferenza con talk su argomenti attinenti

Ogni anno si cambia posto (in Europa). Quest'anno la decima edizione del
battlemesh si fara' a Vienna dal 5 all'11 giugno.

Di solito e' previsto un "accomodation package" che include vitto e
alloggio a un prezzo basso (vedi sotto).

Il campo description non gestisce i conflitti, giusto?

La mia opinione e' che usare IPAM andrebbe bene se iniziassimo a
lavorare sul codice per adattarlo alle nostre esigenze.
Per esempio trovo assurdo scrivere username e password dell'IPAM sul
wiki invece di modificare il codice IPAM in modo da non dover fare il
login :)

[Ninux-Wireless] Proposta: porte VPN su GestioneIndirizzi

Ciao.
Dopo i discorsi durante e dopo il Ninux Day su reti overlay, credo che
sarebbe il caso di coordinarsi sulle porte da allocare alle varie VPN,
per evitare overlapping, e lo farei sulla pagina GestioneIndirizzi.

Se c'e' consenso possiamo creare la tabella su GestioneIndirizzi e
cercare di censire le VPN gia' esistenti.

Thanks for reporting! The server was short of memory so it killed some
processes :( But it should be working again now.

We usually turn nodes to green/active on map.ninux.org when the
installation is complete, and the process is manual at the moment. So if
your node(s) are active, just tell us the name(s).

Perche' un eventuale "provider etico" dovrebbe costare meno di un
provider commerciale? I prodotti del commercio equo e solidale costano
di solito piu' dei prodotti non equi e solidali equivalenti, Banca Etica
costa piu' di molte banche "normali" e i TOMS shoes non costano meno
delle altre scarpe...

Le questioni che ho sollevato nell'altro thread sul conflitto di orari
con la riunione di ninux Roma sono sterili?

Invece di rispondere a quel thread, e' stato chiuso il sondaggio in
anticipo e invece di presentare dei risultati su cui decidere e' stata
decretata direttamente una decisione, ignorando i problemi di cui sopra.

Non abbiamo mai fatto votazioni ma abbiamo sempre usato il metodo del
consenso. E se non abbiamo mai fatto votazioni ci sono dei motivi.

Non sono d'accordo e penso che questa modalita' di decisione sia un
colpo basso in salsa dittatoriale.

Sia di fare il sondaggio sopra sia di farlo diventare una votazione non
sono stati decisi in assemblea ma sono l'iniziativa di una singola persona.

Vi invito a non diffondere e a non partecipare se prima non c'e' una
discussione in merito.

Attraverseresti la citta' per andare in un posto a chiuderti davanti al
PC a chattare?

E non credo sarebbe il massimo per chi venisse ad una riunione per la
prima volta trovare gente che non gli parla perche' sta chattando...

In piu' c'e' la possibilita' che i meeting online si tengano piu' spesso
che una volta al mese.

Mi sono perso questa parte dell'assemblea e nessuno ha scritto nulla sul
pad a questo proposito.

Si tratta di un sondaggio al quale seguira' discussione/consenso o il
risultato verra' preso come decisione?

E quando si parla di protocolli di chat e si annoverano anche servizi
commerciali/chiusi, qual e' lo scopo?
(vorrei evitare di sentirmi come uno che va in automobile a un raduno di
ciclisti)

Anche per me e' ok.

Ho modificato piccole cose in giallo.

Oltre quello che hai scritto, secondo me tra le conclusioni principali
dell'assemblea ci sarebbero anche che:
 - attualmente si sente la mancanza di uno spazio di confronto
inter-isole, da cui i meeting online
 - ci sono state proposte di far andare anche l'infrastruttura verso
l'overlay/online

Hi fellow hackers,

Open Source and Free Software initial promises were to empower
individuals when it came to computing. Three decades later, computing is
almost always connected to the Internet one way or another. PCs are less
and less used while smartphones are soaring and data is collected and
stored on servers on which we have very limited control as users. What
happened to our freedom and empowerment in the meantime?  The outlook is
not so great: we have less and less control over our digital environment.
Network Neutrality is in danger and most code we use is proprietary and
runs on servers we don't have control over.

Fortunately, FOSDEM 2017 will host a "Decentralised Internet" devroom \o/
We invite projects/individual working around these issues/topics to submit
proposals according to this schedule:

Il Ninux Day (l'unico giorno che dura un weekend) organizzato dalla
wireless community network ninux.org, si terra' nei giorni 26, 27
Novembre 2016 a ExFila, Firenze.

L'obiettivo e' quello di riunire sotto lo stesso tetto membri delle
wireless community italiane ed europee e tutti coloro interessati a:

 * la Rete come bene comune
 * networking spontaneo, dal basso
 * governance di comunita' decentralizzate e di beni comuni
 * aspetti legislativi legati alle community networks e delle reti wireless
 * espressioni artistiche nell'ambito delle community networks o reti
wireless
 * reti cittadine
 * wireless mesh networks
 * protocolli di routing
 * sistemi operativi FLOSS orientati al networking
 * management e monitoring distribuito
 * servizi distribuiti e decentralizzati
 * fog computing e cloud (IaaS) distribuito
 * reti resilienti


Tutti sono invitati a proporre un talk o un workshop pratico su questi
argomenti, della durata massima di 30 minuti. Ci sara' anche una
sessione di Lightning talk, della durata massima di 5-10 minuti che si

Ninux Day 2016 Call For Papers

The Ninux Day (the only day that lasts for a weekend), organized by the
wireless community network ninux.org, will be held on November 26, 27
2016 at Exfila, Firenze.

The goal is to gather under the same roof members of Italian and
European wireless community networks and all those who are interested in:

 * Networks as commons
 * spontaneous, bottom-up networking
 * governance of decentralized communities and of Commons
 * legal aspects of community networks and wireless networks
 * artistic expressions linked to community networks or wireless networks
 * metropolitan networks
 * wireless mesh networks
 * routing protocols
 * networking-oriented FLOSS operating systems
 * distributed and decentralized services
 * fog computing and distributed cloud (IaaS)
 * resilient networks


Everyone is invited to propose a talk or a hands-on workshop on such
themes, of maximum duration of 30 minutes. There will also be a session
of lightning talks of maximum duration 5-10 minutes on a specific topic.

If you want to propose a talk send an e-mail to conta...@ninux.org with
a 50-100 words abstract and a short bio before November 15th, 2016.
Your abstract will be published on the ninux wiki once the program is
finalized.

Prova a collegare direttamente l'antenna al tuo PC e a crearti
un'interfaccia VLAN sul tuo PC:

service network-manager stop  # evitiamo che interferisca
ip addr flush dev eth0# o cancella a mano gli IPv4 da eth0

ip link add link eth0 name vlan3 type vlan id 3
ip addr add 10.120.0.42/24 dev vlan3

Musti , wlan slovenia's last year's
host/co-organizer of the Battlemesh in Maribor, Slovenia, is on tour in
October 2016 with Koruza and GoodEnoughCNC
, two of theopen source, open hardware
projectshe is developing with his team.

Luka Mustafa/Musti is a Slovenian-based Shuttleworth Foundation Fellow
, working full-time on
Koruza development at the Institute IRNAS Rače in
Slovenia, which he founded in 2014. He is also a PhD student at
University College London . He leads a
multidisciplinary team developing open systems ranging from CNC machines
to electronics and fibre optic systems, promotes and deploys open
wireless networks in the WLAN Slovenia project, and manages national and
international wireless backbones.

Koruza is the first open source wireless optical
communication system for urban environments, connecting locations at up
to 150 m distance, which empowers networks with 1 Gbps and 10 Gbps
throughputs unaffected by radio spectrum saturation to provide last-mile
networking without the need for fiber installation.
In October 2016, the all new Koruza will be presented: Koruza Pro
, an updated version for professional use, which
is bringing fibre-like speeds to ISP subscribers ten times cheaper.

E invece l'anonimizzazione permette la liberta' di parola in molti casi.

Comunque qui non stiamo parlando veramente di anonimizzazione, IMO.
Stiamo parlando di trasportare il traffico in Paesi in cui la
legislazione e' diversa per quanto riguarda le responsabilita'.

Bah. Se usi la VPN svedese esci con un IP associato alla macchina del
provider svedese che non e' tenuto, per le leggi locali, a tenere
traccia di chi stava usando la VPN in quel momento.

Si' siamo arrivati (ahime') alla stessa conclusione anche a Roma dopo

E non c'e' un modo per trasformare un'istanza di devstack in un

Gli esperimenti con le splash page da queste parti non erano andati
benissimo (pochissime persone ci avevano contattato in un tempo
piuttosto lungo), ma forse in tempi e luoghi diversi la cosa funziona.
Altre isole stanno usando splash page con successo?

Credo che noi dovremmo essere fortemente per la net neutrality e non
fare discriminazione sul tipo di traffico. E le cose sopra citate non
sono nemmeno illegali. Al limite meglio mandare tutto in VPN all'estero
piuttosto che bloccare.

Ciao, Accattone.

Anche se OpenStack e' un software complesso, pensato per girare su piu'
di un server all'interno di un datacenter, si potrebbe intanto provare a
installare devstack su un NUC o raspberry pi, vedere come va e cercare
di capire come continuare.

O avevi qualcos'altro in mente?

Forse ci possiamo coordinare su ninux-research?
