I found someone with ten left and took them all. So, we'll see how

Re: [WISPA] Butch...ICNA and PowerCode

2008-09-12 Thread Butch Evans
On Thu, 11 Sep 2008, John McDowell wrote:

Can you give us a taste of what will be covered at ICNA coming up?
Marlon and I are particularly interested in what will be covered
under the PowerCode and Imagestream segment of the class.

The PC portion of the training is still under development.

We have been trying our best to learn as much as we can about the
relationship between the two with regards to the integration of the
BMU and how each plays its own role in prioritization, etc. We
really would like to know as much as possible about this.

One thing we will be covering, WRT powercode, is the rulesets that
they add. As for other topics, we will be covering OSPF in some
detail (multi-area configurations), BGP introduction and
configuration, ATM and Frame-relay configurations (including L2TP
for DSL aggregation), MPLS (introductory, no labs), and CALEA. As
part of the PC coverage, we will be discussing the advanced QOS
features in ImageStream.

The unfortunate part of this course, is that it is quite difficult
to create good presentation materials for large parts of it. MOST
of the take home materials are online already in the form of
ImageStream's online documentation. The manual we use will only be
100-125 pages.

[WISPA] Motorola Prizm Software

2008-09-12 Thread Jory Privett
I am designing a implementation for the Motorola Prizm software in a
distributed network. I am trying to get some information and most of what
I am receiving is contradicting.

I am wanting multiple PRIZM/BAM servers located at different PoPs in our
network. These need to be redundant to allow for fail-over capabilities. I
plan on having the license server installed in our main data center. Accord
to Motorola the software is capable of doing this. The problem seems to be
with the data base the Prizm servers use. One person told me that they all
have to sue the same database. This would defeat the purpose of having
different Prizm server. Another told me that each Prizm can have its own
database and we can setup replication between the databases.

Has anyone done an installation of this nature before? I have some
questions and ideas I would like to discuss. Any help or expertise is
appreciated.

Re: [WISPA] Insurance

2008-09-12 Thread Ron Harden
I have a high-level friend within Marsh McLennan, and eventually got to
their director of assn. marketing; they should finally have a conference
call with Rick Harnish and a few other members next week. I positioned it
with Marsh as a large number of companies that could inevitably take
advantage of a compelling offer from a large insurer.

Let's see if Rick and the team can do any good in negotiating something of
interest. Marsh is also going to put a proposal in front of FISPA as well.

I don't know if that will help you (and others), but I'm sure that Rick will
keep you posted on progress or an offer to members. Usually there is
strength in numbers...Ron

I called up the Hartford because the proposal didn't seem to reference
anything specifically to being an Internet provider, just what seems to be a

regular business policy with a Super Stretch for Technology and Software
Service Providers endorsement. The guy I talked to on the phone said that
they don't insure Internet Service Providers. ?!?! That's the company
everyone here recommends.

Is there some secret code to mention to get covered? I want my insurance to

be there when I need it, but maybe there's a backdoor to get covered.

If not, whom else will insure us?

Re: [WISPA] Motorola Prizm Software

2008-09-12 Thread Patrick Shoemaker
I don't have any firsthand experience with a redundant PRIZM
installation, but I do remember the installation manual from Moto
including instructions for setting up replication between multiple
database servers. The license server can be set up to be redundant too
IIRC. You will need 3 machines for a redundant configuration.

I don't know about dark fiber, but I know time warner has a very good fiber

Subject: [WISP] Hurricane Ike Support Needed

Hi all

As many of you have been watching the news, Hurricane Ike will be hitting the
coast of Texas very shortly. This storm is expected to do extensive damage. In
as much, the FCC will be activating its emergency communications response teams
as well as the DIRs program. In response, PART-15.ORG will also be activating
our Emergency Response Center.

1. To support the FCC's and PART-15.ORGs Emergency Communications
Response Teams, PART-15.ORG is asking for donations. Your donation can be in
the form of cash (PayPal), or new or used (working) equipment.

a.Cash donations can be made through the PART-15.ORG PayPal account in
denominations of $25, $50, $100, $250, or $500. Your donation is a 100% tax
deductible donation. Additional information will be available later today at
http://www.part-15.org/ECF/center.htm

b. Equipment donations can be ANY, WORKING, communications equipment: e.g.
routers, switches, APs, CPEs, CAT5, LMR, computers and peripherals, VoIP
equipment of all variations, POTS phones, printers, etc. Equipment donations
should be sent directly to PART-15.ORG. Address will be provided upon request.

2. DIRS Program - After the success of PART-15.ORG's Hurricane Katrina
support to the FCC, the FCC implemented the Disaster Information Reporting
System (DIRS). As a support element of the Department of Homeland Security's
National Communications System (NCS)(to remind you all, I was asked to train
many of these folks during ESF#2 exercises they were having), PART-15.ORG is
registered with the FCC's DIRS program and acts as a clearing house for the
license exempt WISPs.

a. All WISPs effected by or in the projected path of Hurricane Ike are
requested to contact [EMAIL PROTECTED] for more information and reporting
requirements.

3. PART-15.ORG has activated our Emergency Communications Support Center
in support of the FCC's Emergency Communications Support Teams.

a. We will be updating the website for:

   i.
Volunteer Signups

 ii.
Coordination Efforts

iii.
Discussion List

b. We are NOT seeking volunteers as yet. However, this could change at any
moment so those interested will be able to find additional information on our
site.

4. More information will be available as it becomes available. Check our
website frequently as time may not permit extensive discussions on the lists.

Thank you for your support.

Michael
