Re: [WISPA] Trango GIGA Unband mngmt?

2008-12-24 Thread Brad Belton
With current firmware the smart mode option is available on the GigaLINK as
well. Smart mode has to be set the same on both sides of the link and may
even require a reboot.

Recently we had a need for the four GigaLINK GigE ports to act as a switch.
We started to implement the option on a live production link, but ended up
going a different direction rather than risk an unforeseen "Trango" result.

Merry Christmas Eve!

Brad

On the APEX line, you can turn off "smart mode" and then the GigE copper and
Fiber ports will all talk to each other across the link (meaning you can run
copper on 1 side and fiber on the other).

Re: [WISPA] Trango GIGA Unband mngmt?

2008-12-24 Thread Tom DeReggi
Just did the path calc, and yes, I think we are fine with the low power
model.

However, I did the path calc with the Dragonwave tool listing 23Ghz AP-200
in 50Mhz, 2ft dishes, because that is what was listed as the highest
option..
(tx power 12db and -38 receive targeted, w/ 29db fade margin)

Do you have an updated tool that actually lists the Horizon? To double
check.

I'm not sure what QAM the AP-200 model is using for the calc, and if the
Horizon has the same sensitivity.

The ports are Private VLAN, not 802.1q.
So No, ports don't talk.

in-band management is 802.1q VLAN though.

Tranzeo followed the RFC by rebooting with whatever frame it was sent,
as I recall.

They do have some cool things, true - GPS, 4.9, 5 and 2.4 in one big

only one capable of that.

We have a competitor that uses lots of them and they seem well made.
Seems to be an expensive way to get wifi or b/g signal around. They can
be synchronized and run on a single frequency, which is a bonus.

I'd rather use other gear with antennas chosen for the gain, coverage,
and polarity of my choice. I'm not a propenent of mesh systems in
general.
