This might work perfect for you. Has dual power. Power from POE or solar.
Will give a couple days backup or run from solar independently.

http://www.streakwave.com/Itemdesc.asp?ic=RPPL2424-18-30&eq=&Tp=

This one will only do 8W continuous so it won't be able to power your
equipment continuously by solar but it takes POE power and the solar panel
will extend the battery backup.

[WISPA] NAB Asks Congress to Probe Dish, Time Warner for Spectrum Hoarding

2011-03-01 Thread Forbes Mercy

NAB Asks Congress to Probe Dish, Time Warner for Spectrum Hoarding

By Maisie Ramsay Tuesday, March 1, 2011

The National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) is asking Congress to
investigate Dish Network and Time Warner Cable over alleged spectrum
hoarding.

The letter, sent to the ranking members of the House Energy and Commerce
Committee and the Senate Commerce Committee, accuses Dish Network and
Time Warner Cable of warehousing their spectrum licenses so they can
sell them off at a huge profit to bandwidth-starved operators.

The NAB wants the lawmakers to investigate Dish Network, Time Warner
Cable and other government agencies for potential cases of spectrum
hoarding and financial speculation before allowing the FCC to move ahead
with its proposed incentive auctions of television broadcast spectrum.

"The pattern of spectrum speculation from Time Warner Cable and Dish
Network is especially troubling given that the FCC's National Broadband
Plan proclaimed a year ago that there is a 'looming spectrum crisis,'"
wrote NAB President and CEO Gordon Smith. "If America is truly facing a
spectrum shortage, then it is imperative that policymakers receive an
unbiased and thorough report on how private companies like Dish, Time
Warner Cable and government agencies are using or warehousing this
precious resource."

Gordon's letter was prompted by comments from Dish Network CEO Charlie
Ergen in the company's earnings call last week that suggested the
company had no concrete plans for the spectrum, instead planning to let
it sit idle and increase in value so it could be sold off at a profit.

Dish is working to buy bankrupt satellite company DBSD, which holds
satellite spectrum licenses. When asked what Dish would do with the
spectrum it could acquire through the DBSD deal, Ergen said the company
believed that "spectrum has value" but "there's not a grand strategy at
this point."

Time Warner Cable has said it doesn't have any plans to sell or use its
spectrum holdings, implying it plans to let the spectrum grow in value
so it can be sold at a profit.

The latest missive from the NAB is part of the group's ongoing efforts
to undermine the FCC's plan to use airwaves currently used for
television broadcast to alleviate the spectrum crunch. Last month, the
NAB accused the wireless industry and cable operators like Time Warner
of fabricating the spectrum crunch by hoarding their spectrum to create
false scarcity. CTIA denounced NAB's allegations, calling them "baffling."

been able to legally run my business and create several organizations
with the help of attorneys. When I saw we had 3 attorneys offering to
help us make sure we have done things in a legal and proper way I was
very glad to see that. I appreciate their legal experience and
expertise being shared within this committee.

I do not think that anyone in our committee was even considering that
we would not do things in a "Kosher" way and frankly I find this post
somewhat offensive. I have committed literally years of free support
to WISPA in matters such as this and I do not expect much but not
getting intellectually kicked around for my efforts would be a nice start.

Several years ago Proxim made a wireless system called Harmony.
Their midspan POE (model 7562) is the device that fits what the OP was
looking for.
They are around Ebay and some of the surplus dealers.
I can't remember the configuration but I think it was 6 ports.
The Power output was the "normal" 4/5 7/8 and was, I think 12-18 volts.

Of course.

Explain more? What do you want to query via SNMP? Write via SNMP? Why
does
it need an ACL system? Why not just use your existing network security
system to keep people out? You do have a dedicated infrastructure
management
network right?

Of course. How much power would need to come in? Would the power
supplies be
hot swappable?

Hmmm. Why not just do this via software interface (like cisco poe switch
for
example). That would make the most sense to me.

What does this mean? Is this like an iboot where if it doesn't receive a
heartbeat in specified time period it cycles power on the port? Of
course
you would be able to disable this when doing maintenance that is a
longer
outage (like say flashing firmware or something)

>

Why? Just give it via SNMP/web interface. (Guess I'm just so used to
being a
remote support person that I never expect to have local access.
Have managed 10s of thousands of remote systems that I never saw).

DC power is a requirement I think. On every model.

>

Don't know what this is. Maybe others on the list will?

> What else would be beneficial in the design of this PoE controller?

Think you about covered it.

One thinks Cisco would do something like this and make it fairly
dumb/cheap.
They already meet all your above requirements (well don't know about
redundant power supply on 1U but I imagine that could easily be done).

Cliff, did you just offer to help us with this effort?

I am married to an attorney. Many of my friends are attorneys. I have been able
to legally run my business and create several organizations with the help of
attorneys. When I saw we had 3 attorneys offering to help us make sure we have
done things in a legal and proper way I was very glad to see that. I appreciate
their legal experience and expertise being shared within this committee.

I do not think that anyone in our committee was even considering that we would
not do things in a "Kosher" way and frankly I find this post somewhat
offensive. I have committed literally years of free support to WISPA in matters
such as this and I do not expect much but not getting intellectually kicked
around for my efforts would be a nice start.

John,

My apology to you and anyone else that may have taken offense to my JOKE.
Believe me that is all it was meant to be.

However, this society has become so politically correct, and litigious, it dose
sometimes make me sick. Hence my JOKE of needing so many attorneys on the
committee to make sure we don't offend ANYONE.

I would consider helping if I can and you think adding me would be helpful. Let
me know the role, responsibility and commitment needed. Based on what you
desire, I would only agree if I could commit to be a asset. I'd never agree to
be on a committee and not participate.

>

Naturally

What does this mean? Is this like an iboot where if it doesn't receive a
heartbeat in specified time period it cycles power on the port? Of
course
you would be able to disable this when doing maintenance that is a
longer
outage (like say flashing firmware or something)

>
> (8) LED Status indicators per port.

Why? Just give it via SNMP/web interface. (Guess I'm just so used to
being a
remote support person that I never expect to have local access.
Have managed 10s of thousands of remote systems that I never saw).

>

DC power is a requirement I think. On every model.

>
> (10) Optional Trango Apex/Orion GigE model?

Don't know what this is. Maybe others on the list will?

> What else would be beneficial in the design of this PoE controller?

Think you about covered it.

One thinks Cisco would do something like this and make it fairly
dumb/cheap.
They already meet all your above requirements (well don't know about
redundant power supply on 1U but I imagine that could easily be done).
