Re: [WISPA] After hour call handling?

2009-04-17 Thread Steve
Digium board with Asterisk running on a SFF PC, (Actually Alix 1c
running ubuntu server on CF card)
This is a very robust option with call forwarding, tracking, voip
integration. When the call comes in, it will track the person/s down
using a variety of methods from dialing pbx extensions, phone numbers,
voip software (zoiper) on your computer, IM, and finally if you can't be
reached, will deliver a voice message to your email in the form of a wav
file.
We think it's great!

Re: [WISPA] Riverbed

2009-04-17 Thread Joseph J. Cracchiolo
I have customers using that. It's not a bad product and works fairly well.
It's main flaw is that people expect it to mutate or bypass the laws of
physics. In other words, it will not make a 1, 2, 4 Mbps connection feel like
a 100Mbps connection. Most people I've talked with think that's exactly what
it will do and they are disappointed when it cannot.

2009-04-17 Thread Brian Webster
Their EIRP would probably no higher than 40 watts or so. They do not run
very high power because they have full duplex links between the site and the
phone users. There is no advantage to transmitting high power if the low
power phone can not talk back to the site.

Thank You,

We use Asterisk and during business hours, we answer calls as much as we
can. After hours, unless they are paying business rates, it says on our
menu if they are a residence calling for support, press X and you can
leave a message. If you are a business or a residential customer in
need of immediate support, press Y. If they press Y, the first
announcement says Note: for all residential customers calling for after
hours support, there will be a $75 charge for each hour on their next
bill.

It gives the customers that "HAVE TO HAVE IT NOW!!!" the ability to get
support, especially for that executive that has to have a report done at
3:00 AM for the financial meeting he will be attending and he can't
figure out his email settings on a work laptop that has never been home
to setup. We can now justify paying off-hour rates to my techs.

Just curious whats everyone using for workorders and scheduling?

I've got a home grown solution I made a few years back that I
intergrated
google calendars into
however we aren't happy with it and am looking into a new system.

Re: [WISPA] After hour call handling?

2009-04-17 Thread Eric Rogers
I made that mistake... The straw that broke the camel's back was when I
got a call at 11:30 PM on Sunday that "I am having problems getting my
Xbox to work. It says I need a key." I realized at that point, as I
was waking from my slumber, that it was not a good idea. I don't
remember my response, but I am sure I wasn't as nice as I would have
been normally...

My cell number is on every answering machine. I tell people that if
it's
urgent they can call.

One of these days I'll have another tech and we'll take turns on
"stand-by".

The best solution I've found though? GOOD gear! It's amazing what
happens
to the after hours call when you get top notch gear installed.

Re: [WISPA] Insurance on equipment

2009-04-17 Thread Scottie Arnett
Typical "legal organized crime" insurance companies. As long as you are paying
them and not filing a claim, everything is happy go lucky. File one claim and
they want to jack your rates through the roof or cancel your policy. How do
they get away with this stuff? I have 1st hand experience with it. I can't
believe all are like that, but all I have ever dealt with are. If anyone knows
of a "professional" insurance company that provides what they say without the
"crap mentioned above", please let me know.

I think the first revsion Tranzeo 900 mhz radios used that card. They
are incompatible with the newer radios, and never worked well to start with.

Custom written PHP/MySQL system. Does installs, trouble tickets etc.
Best bet to hire a PHP/MySQL coder.

they believe a tower is down, or its an emergency to forward the call to my

Unfortunately, that will not work. I have been trying to get Tranzeos
to work with StarOS (and Mikrotik) for a while and have not been able to
make it happen. I have even taken the Tranzeos apart and put the cards
into the other radios and did not get it to work.

I did take the cards out of a couple of dead Tranzeo 900 radios (blown
ethernet port), put one in a StarOS AP, and the second into a WAR1 and
put it back in the Tranzeo case and that worked out pretty well.If
either StarOS or Mikrotik would come up with a way to tune into the
correct center frequency, I think you could get them to work, but I have
not had any luck so far.

Next step is I'm trying out one of the new EL900 APs from Tranzeo to see
if it will do what I want to do. If I could just get them to do radius
authentication, I would be happy.

Re: [WISPA] After hour call handling?

2009-04-17 Thread Matt Larsen - Lists
These guys have been outstanding for us:

http://kitsupport.com/

We forward our tech support calls to them between 5pm-8am and they have
done a great job. All calls that they receive come back into our
Freeside system as a work ticket with all the details on the calls they
have taken and our techs jump on the ones that KIT can't resolve over
the phone right away in the morning. They will also call us if they
get a bunch of calls from the same place with outage issues.

I believe the minimum monthly charge is $350/month, and that includes up
to 70 support calls. In a year, I don't think we've gone over that
number of calls more than once or twice. One of the best investments
I've ever made.

Re: [WISPA] tranzeo 900mhz ?

2009-04-17 Thread D. Ryan Spott
They use different center frequencies so no, they do not interoperate. However,
I believe you can rip a card (and its amp/converter? Out of a Tranzeo and put
it into 'tik.

Does the Tranzeo Slim-line 900mhz series only work with a Tranzeo AP? Or can
I use a XR9 in Mikrotik?

Re: [WISPA] tranzeo 900mhz ?

2009-04-17 Thread Tom DeReggi
Lets expand the questions.

Which name brand or OEM pre-made 900Mhz radio systems ship with XR9s?
(and/or SR9s)

It seems to me that a lot of the vendors are using the ZCOM card because of
the lower price, so hard finding FCC cert 900 units with the Ubiquiti.
My understanding is that Teletronics, Ligowave, Tranzeo all use alternate
brands such as ZCOM?
