[WISPA] Current state of Missouri sales tax regs?

2014-01-28 Thread Ben West
Hello,

Sorry for emailing suddenly while otherwise being very quite. Would anyone
know the current state of Missouri sales tax regulations for WISPs? E.g.
minimum sales, minimum monthly amount to be considered taxable, whether
install labor is taxed?

I quite randomly happened across this blog post about bill signed by the MO
governor last year, which looked like it might be slightly related WISPs.
Wasn't sure if that did indeed affect WISPs.
http://eyesonecomlaw.blogspot.com/2013/07/despite-prior-veto-missouri-governor.html

Thank you.

  INTERESTING!

  I didn't know shireen made a shielded version. That's one reason we've
only used the d-gel for very certain things. It's not listed on our primary
vendor's site (streakwave).

Have you tried the Shireen dry gel? I’m addicted.

Stays dry and easy to work with until it gets wet. IF there’s a
problem that allows liquid into the cable it self seals the hole. Pretty cool
stuff.

I do wish they had a better packaging system. I really miss the

Re: [WISPA] Dynamic Spectrum Brokarage?

2014-01-28 Thread Sean Heskett
this proves the FCC needs to do a better job.

this would be like a commodity market for BLM grazing rights for sheep and
cattle. We all own the spectrum, if the FCC has issued you a license for
an area then you should have to use it or loose it. I certainly don't
think you should be able to sell it on a commodity market.

plus the markets usually throw a monkey wrench into the system and the
value of the commodity is no longer based on the commodity but on what
investors *think* is the value. i.e. the price of a barrel of oil has
virtually *nothing* to do with the supply or demand of oil, it's all what
commodity traders think it's value is. that's why we have weird spikes in
gas prices, demand didn't just increase (gasoline is not really price
elastic, meaning people will buy almost the same amount no matter the price
because thats how much gas it takes for them to drive to work, the grocery
store, the bank, the bar etc.).

I agree. They should be relatively cheap to make.

I found the one I used to use for satellite/coax installs here:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Coax-Locator-Cable-Mapper-Identifier-Tester-CL500-T3-Inovation/151207593771?rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222002%26algo%3DSIC.FIT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D19841%26meid%3D4443111505221948349%26pid%3D15%26prg%3D8934%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D5%26sd%3D221173371074%26

The Klein unit Chris posted was a larger version of the one I was
looking at. I like Klein tools, I was just trying to see if anybody made
a better unit with more integrated tests without the "Fluke" price.

Re: [WISPA] Outlet toner for cat5/6 and/or Coax

2014-01-28 Thread Chris Ruschmann
I bought this from Amazon earlier this year. Works well enough. Same as you
are looking at just more plugs I believe.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006JUYPKQ/ref=wms_ohs_product?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I also use this for anything else wireline wise. It's the best toner I have
ever used. Well worth it.

At some point I will be moving to this kit and hand down the above gear to
our techs. More wishful thinking though J

Did you actually look at the link? :)

No, I'm not looking for a generalized tester. I'm looking for a device with
multiple numbered/colored rj45 plugs. You take the plugs and plug them into
outlets, then take the tester to the patch panel. When you plug in the
tester to each port on the patch panel, it tells you what numbered/colored
plug is on the other end.

That's not at all what I'm talking about. That's just a tester, not a

INTERESTING!

I didn't know shireen made a shielded version. That's one
reason we've only used the d-gel for very certain things. It's
not listed on our primary vendor's site (streakwave).

Stays dry and easy to work with until it gets wet. IF
there's a problem that allows liquid into the cable it
self seals the hole. Pretty cool stuff.

Re: [WISPA] Cable Testers

2014-01-28 Thread Mark Spring
basic wire testing, anything more advanced would be a bonus so we are just
weighing cost options to see if it would be worth the upgrade to get
additional features. Maybe Ubiquiti should develop a meter that replaces
the microscanner2(it looks looks nice) for 1/4 the price...i'd wait two
years for that!

I use a simple media tester. It checks to make sure all the pairs have

Re: [WISPA] Cable Testers

2014-01-28 Thread Jay Weekley
What details are you looking for? I should get a new tester myself.

Re: [WISPA] Cable Testers

2014-01-28 Thread Eric Rogers
We use the Fluke Microscanner2 as it will allow PoE and will test
without the other end being on. You can see cable length, PoE, and if
there is a switch/Ethernet at the other end.

can anybody make any recommendations for cat5/cable testers they have
had good luck with? We had good luck with the testum(jdsu) testers but
apparently they were discontinued. We are looking at the micromapper
from fluke but something with a little more detail might help. Fluke
makes bigger brothers to the micromapper but they are a little more than
economical.
