[WISPA] THANK YOU

2007-07-11 Thread Jeff Mabry
Dear WISPA friends,

Thank you for your prayers that you have lifted up to God for me and my
family this past week. I know that they have been answered because the
massive void in my heart and life has been comforted during this
unexpected and tragic loss of my wife Sherianne. I expect there will be
a more difficult road ahead, but I know God will not allow anything to
be placed before me that He and I can not get through. My heart is
sadden by this loss, but my faith is strong and I believe in the Words
of the Almighty. I know He is just and righteous and will keep His
promise. Sherianne knew this as well and lived the life that He
describes and desires from us all.

Enjoy the time you have with your loved ones because in a blink of an
eye they can leave this side of eternity. Sherianne has gone on to a
better place, where there are no tears, no pain, no sorrow. I am
comforted (2 Cor 1:3-4) to know that I will see her again by staying
faithful to and trusting in our Creator and Father in Heaven.

Thank you for your continued prayers while I try to get some routine
back into our life.

I hope to see you all soon.

Best regards,

Jeff

Chris/Ron:

We started out with a MY-TE years ago, it was very heavy and cumbersome
to operate. We now have customized a Reese hitch adapter with an AB
Chance winch with foot pedal control. This capstan works great for WISP
installations.

If you are looking for a capstan, watch the tower-pro list on Yahoo.
You never know you might stumble onto a great buy.

If you like more info on my used MY-TE drop me a line off list.

Check out the links above for more information on the AB Chance winch
and accessories.

Be Safe out there! Remember it is your Life that is on the Line.

I just wanted to let everyone know that the

is shaping up as an outstanding program and will be an important benchmark for
thinking about the future of Indiana's countryside. Featured speakers include:

*Thomas C. Dorr, Under Secretary of USDA-Rural Development;

*Lieutenant Governor Becky Skillman;

*Clay Serbie, Deputy Premier and Saskatchewan Minister of Regional, Economic,
and Cooperative Developers

*Charles Fluharty, President of the Rural Policy Research Institute;

*Richard Wakeford, Head of Environmental and Rural Affairs-Scottish
Executive;

For more detailed information, including
registration, please go to  http://www.purdue.edu/dp/pcrd/conference/summit/

The Summit's overall goal is to provide a positive
environment to learn techniques that will foster future investments,
technological advancement, and dynamic growth in our Indiana communities.
Specifically, the Summit is designed to provide Hoosier leaders opportunities to
learn creative ways to tackle development challenges and understand better the
RISE (Rural Indiana Strategy for Excellence) 2020 strategic action framework.
Conferees will also have opportunities to share "best practices,"
while reinforcing the linkages Indiana communities have statewide, nationally,
and internationally.

I hope you will consider attending and will encourage

[WISPA] WISP services needed in southwest IL

2006-01-25 Thread Jeff Mabry

WISPA:

I am in search of wireless service in the Cahokia and/or Murphysboro, IL
areas.  My sister company is in need of a temporary wireless connection
for video surveillance of their construction sites.  The Cahokia
project has begun and the Murphysboro project will begin the first of
March.  Each project is scheduled to last 3-4 weeks.

Depending on the wireless system, CPE may not be needed,
just bandwidth and authentication.  We need up to a 512 k
connection.  Wireless Service will not be used for 24 hour streaming, just
video on demand.

Thank you,

RE: [WISPA] Re: [WISP] Renting Spectrum Analyzers

2006-01-05 Thread Jeff Mabry
I prefer the Anritsu MS2721A Spectrum Master. Easy to operate, it is not
bulky and does not weight very much for those tower climbs, color graphics,
and quit a bit of storage for saved measurements.

When in a pinch we rent from TRS out of Texas, phone 800-621-6354. They
offer very good weekly, bimonthly, or monthly options on SpecA's, Cable
Sweepers, Path Align-R's, etc.

I hope 2006 will be prosperous to each of you.

Best regards,

If you are going to climb with it, then look for something like this
one:

ID=654&cat=1&cat2=2&cat3=3&cat4=0

We just got one last month or so. Works fantastic!

I am in Gulfport, MS helping out at the Harrison County Disaster Command Post.
Do you know anyone in this county that wants to volunteer? We need volunteers
to help distribute and sort food and supplies. Wireless Internet Service has
dropped low on my priority list at the moment.

Yesterday, I was told they (volunteers and National Guard) found an apartment
complex with 225 people that had not had food for 6 days. 155 were children.

My mobile is 618.534.6407. Cellular is better but still spotty.

When I get back in wireless mode. I have 2 - 2 ft antennas (Radiowaves). Used
Link CX 5.8 units, and a Proxim Tsunami QuickBridge 60 link.

Please call if I can help.

Here is an update :

Joe Miller runs the WISP in Gulfport / Biloxi / Pascagoula and surrounding
areas - We run a network "that" went from Mobile, Alabama to Dauphin Island
alabama with a tower site located at WLO on the coast.

Leroy Clark from Mobile is going to inspect our tower site and see if it's even
standing. If not - we will do a wireless shot of 34 miles to Pascagoula from
Mobile, Alabama.

Who is in route to help Joe Miller ? Could we stage here and head that way on
Thursday ? That would give us 2 days to get all gear shipped in and ready to
roll.

I have secured a 10mbps link from Mobile to do this shot with. This will get
his Pascagoula network back up and online and Joe Miller has already stated he
will donate his network and resources to lighting up the shelters along the
coast.

any equipment they can donate ASAP. Please get with me. There are nearly 20

Some are in route now. We need backhaul equipment, AP's and

We are getting a lot of requests from down south for more equipment. Mac
Dearman, JohnnyO, Tim Wolfe, Joe Miller and Joe Laura are all working
diligently to get more shelters online as quickly as possible. If anyone has
any equipment they can donate ASAP. Please get with me. There are nearly 20
volunteers heading down there from all over the country in the next few days.
Some are in route now. We need backhaul equipment, AP's and
client radios. Routers and VoIP equipment is also needed. Feel free
to
call my cell.

This call for equipment includes resellers and manufacturers. Please call me
today!

[WISPA] Mobile Access Centers

2005-09-02 Thread Jeff Mabry

UPDATE  -

Each of our initial three (3) response teams will be equipped
with satellite internet access and combined with our mesh gear.  We will
be providing a Mobile
 Access Center
with WIFI and VOIP services for those folks that have had to relocate and/or
relief support personnel to make contact with family.  We have lined up a VOIP
provider in the TX area to provide us with the phones and service.

RE: [WISPA] Wireless Communication Support

2005-09-01 Thread Jeff Mabry
We are mobilizing to help those in dire straits. SlingShot is a subsidiary
of EcoDigital Development Group (EDG) under TEAM EDG we have an
environmental engineering and remediation firm, a property redevelopment
company, and believe or not a RV rental company.

We are working out the logistics to provide temporary housing in some of the
areas with the RV rental company. Also we are sending representatives from
the environmental remediation group to help with the clean up. We
(SlingShot) are going down to see if we can assist with DATA/VOIP
connections for first responders.

Our (SlingShot) major concern at this time is to work with those providers
in the area and help establish wireless communications to those in law
enforcement, emergency medical services, clean up crews and human services.
I would like to be able to help set up some mobile WIFI hotspots where folks
can reconnect with a loved one via e-mail or VOIP services.

Trango Broadband has offered to provide us with equipment in order to
re-establish wireless connectivity.

I saw where you mentioned you had bandwidth available. Is there anyone else
in the area with active services? Maybe we can pull something together.

In closing, if a long term reconstruction contract is established then I
would hope we would have an opportunity work on it.

So I guess the answer to your question is Yes and No.

WISPA members, vendors and friends-

SlingShot Wireless Communications will be mobilizing a crew to the Gulf
Port Area to assist in establishing critical PtP & PtMP wireless
communications for the rescue and reconstruction personnel.

We have a wide range of equipment in stock which we will be deploying
for those departments, systems, and cities in the most distress areas.

If you can help us in our effort or if you are in these impacted areas,
please send response to [EMAIL PROTECTED] or call 866-33-3127.

Would there be any Manufacturers, Distributors, or Integrators following
this list that can support us in our assistance and donate some gear or
manpower (certified climbers)?

Thank you,

Jeff

RE: [WISPA] Rohn BX Tower

2005-08-22 Thread Jeff Mabry

Brian –

What section number will be your
bottom?  If you are using Section # 8 as the bottom then you need to use
the foundation pad recommendations for Section 8.  If so, then you are
looking to excavate for a foundation that is 5 ft 9 inches by 5 ft 9 inches and
4 ft deep.  Spec’s call for 4.9 yards of concrete at 3000 psi.
They also call for #3 rebar – top & bottom – on 12 inch centers.

Whatever section it is use the recommended
foundation specifications.

I would recommend using the concrete base
stub to attach to the tower legs.  See page 10.

Best regards,

had figured I needed 1.28 yards for the hole I dug.  But now that I have
the specs I will see how big the hole has to be.  I will only put a CPE on
this tower.  Nothing huge.

Good morning,

You are missing out on some very useful information from seasoned
Operators on a wide range of gear. It has been nice to hear the success
stories from the Canopy and Trango operators. I have enjoyed the

information from what I have seen in the WISPNOG session. There appears
to be good number in attendance.

There has been no shortage of FREE delicious food.

RE: [WISPA] Grounding questions/help

2005-08-02 Thread Jeff Mabry
Short - Straight - and on a single point ground system. You want to become
one with the tower. You do not want to make your equipment the least
resistant pathway to ground.

You might also request that additional (three (3) or more) 8 ft ground rods
be driven on 16 ft centers from existing rods and bond them together with #2
solid wire to each other and the existing rods.

We have used Tripp-Lite TLP810NETs in the past. It provides surge
suppression for Ethernet and power. Tripp-Lite DNET1's also are good for
Ethernet surge suppression.

I would also recommend if you are using shielded CAT5 to properly ground it
at the tower and before entry into the enclosure (similar to a coax
grounding kit).

Keep the lightning on the outside.

I have several towers, all of which except for 1 never have any issues,
however,
this 1 tower (we are the only tenant) seems to have a problem each year
during
lightning season...

Last night it took a hit, although it appears it came through the electrical
and
not the tower, but I'm not sure, the UPS was off, I reset it and it came
back
online --- but the POE injector did NOT, it was completely shot.

Replaced the POE unit and the wireless gear came online, but started
rebooting
after about 15minutes (although it didn't this before, I just changed the
POE
from a 12v to 15v) tried a 24v POE, and the radio was still rebooting...
Called
the tower climber..

Anyways I looked over the ground and the tower appears to 3 ground rod off
each
tower leg and then the building has a separate ground rod - (unless its
connected underground)

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Dan

We had some Trango weirdness overnight also. We had 3 different links go
down at different times overnight but I do not have any specifics of why
at this time. Where were you seeing this trouble?

[WISPA] 5.8 GHz PtP - weaker RSLs

2005-08-02 Thread Jeff Mabry

Good Morning, WISPA.

We have witnessed a decrease in five (5) TrangoLink10 5.8 GHz
PtPs Received Signal Levels overnight.  These links are deployed in
various geographic locations with an average 12 miles of separation between tower
sites.  These links have been active for at least a year (some longer).
A decrease anywhere from 3 to 8 dB has been recorded in the RSLs with the exception
of one (1) link which has had a 7 dB boost in signal.

Weather this morning is about the same as yesterday’s
weather.  Clear and 72 degrees.

Did anyone else see lower signals this morning?  This
is a weird issue to wake up to.

Thank you for your support.
