Re: [WISPA] WISPA Board of Directors Election 2007

2007-06-14 Thread David E. Smith
A minor note, in the interest of fair disclosure.

The first page of the WISPA voting site displayed, briefly, incorrect
voting instructions. (It said there were six candidates and that you
could vote for up to six, where there are eleven candidates and you may
vote for up to seven.)

In the few minutes this was displayed, several people voted. You may
wish to re-vote.

Votes can be changed at any time, at will, until the close of the election.

I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

I just filled mine out. If any of you have not applied for the board and
you want to help us run this organization then please go to
http://nominations.wispa.org and signup. We did not get enough applications
to even fill the board last time. We want a full 7 member board this time
guys and it would be nice to have enough people applying to have a little
bit of campaigning and debate about what the direction will be for WISPA.
We have enough strong potential candidates out there that we should be
seeing some new blood running this time along with our existing board
hopefully all running. There is no need to delay this application. It took
me about 5 minutes to complete. Please go apply now if you have an interest

Thank you for the kind words, Mac. I will certainly run as long as the

serve on the board at some point. It is a valuable experience. We need
fresh ideas and new blood infused over time to keep this a going concern.

I think it makes us all better followers if we have to be leaders at
some point. I see so many people who take a leadership role in local
government, a town club, a church or charity and they take it on the
chin from people who have never had to lead. If we all take a shot at
leading WISPA over time the work product of the entire group will
improve because we will all know what it is like to try to run this
effort. In effect, we will all become better followers if we have been

RE: [WISPA] WISPA Board

2007-04-17 Thread Mac Dearman

Those kind words aren't just lip service for the current standing board!
All of you guys have put your heart and soul into this organization and the
effort is not only paying off in members, but in recognition and results as
well. I consider my membership in WISPA the most important of any
memberships and consider it a privilege to be here. I still hold the thought
that we will one day be a huge influential organization in D.C. as well as
other trade organizations.

Now as far as my seeking a seat on the board - I don't know about that! It
would be a great privilege and honor, but that's something that would take a
lot of thought as it would take a lot of commitment. I am not scared of a
commitment to WISPA (I have done that already) - just thoughts of not being
able to "tow the line" as all of you have towed the line thus far.

I appreciate the recognition of the work "we" accomplished in Mississippi
and Louisiana after hurricanes Katrina and Wilma, but that was a group
effort by many men and organizations. I am proud to have been a part of it
and proud to have lived through it both mentally and financially. :-) I can
attest that I met some of the greatest people in my life during those times.
I am also glad it's a "done deal" now.

WISPA was a saving grace in that ordeal and once again - - it's nice to be
a part of something where humanity, humility and genuine concern is not
measured in U.S. dollars! Thanks again to all of WISPA who contributed
money, food. Wireless gear, money and most of all - - THEIR TIME AND LABOR
IN THE HEAT, HUMIDITY AND MOSQUITTOS!

Sincerely,
Mac Dearman

effort. In effect, we will all become better followers if we have been
leaders at least once. We will also all know more about the structure,
management and operation of the organization. I feel this diversity is
very important for the organization to remain vital and sustainable into
the future.

I have told Mac before that I wanted to see him serve on the board of
WISPA. I want to publicly request that Mac Dearman run for the board.
For those of you who do not know it, Mac led the efforts after Katrina
which led to some of the best work WISPA has ever done. We helped many
people in shelters, churches, etc. Mac did a god job of leading that
effort. I have little doubt that he would make a good director for WISPA
in our next board. Mac, please go over to http://nominations.wispa.org

Re: [WISPA] WISPA Board

2007-04-16 Thread John Scrivner
Thank you for the kind words, Mac. I will certainly run as long as the
group wants me to be part of the board of WISPA. I do want all of you to
know though that I think any good organization should have people move
through the ranks. Anyone who is part of WISPA, has some leadership
skills and wants to see things improve for the industry should try to
serve on the board at some point.

If we all take a shot at
leading WISPA over time the work product of the entire group will
improve because we will all know what it is like to try to run this
effort. In effect, we will all become better followers if we have been
leaders at least once. We will also all know more about the structure,

I feel the same way. I am hoping that everyone on the board today is willing
to stay. You have accomplished so much in this last year...ie: membership is
UP, progress is being made with the FCC with spectrum, individual state
groups are being better organized to work together. I will second MAC on
this and nominate the current board to stay on the board.

RE: [WISPA] WISPA Board Application Announcement

2007-04-16 Thread Rick Harnish
Peter and others,

Yes, please feel free to nominate candidates. I believe we still have an
email address [EMAIL PROTECTED] but also send it to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Follow the below procedure:

Nominations
Nominees must be a representative of a WISPA principal, vendor or associate
member in good standing prior to the deadline for nominations. Nominations
may come from the membership at large or from the Board of Directors.
Nominations coming from the standing Board of Directors should include a
letter of recommendation from the Director submitting the nomination.

Nominations coming from a WISPA member should include a letter of
recommendation from the member. Both the member submitting the nomination
and the nominee must be members in good standing at the time the nomination
is submitted.
Board members completing their first term and wishing to serve a second
1-year term are required to submit their candidacy for re-election.
Attendance records for all board meetings for the current term should be
supplied along with the statement of intent to run.
Credentials of prospective nominees will be reviewed and evaluated by the
Nominating Committee, which is responsible for ensuring that a sufficient
number of qualified candidates are available to stand for election. It shall
be the sole responsibility of the Nominating Committee to recommend a
proposed list of nominees to the Board of Directors for its approval.
Following approval of the nominees by the Board of Directors, nominee's
applications will be posted on the http://www.wispa.org website for review
of the membership, as well as voting instructions and a ballot. Voting will
be conducted an online ballot, and ballots will be tabulated by an objective
third party, outside of the WISPA Secretariat.

Re: [WISPA] WISPA Board Application Announcement

2007-04-16 Thread Peter R.

Can we nominate people who need a nudge? :)

Now's the time for those that feel that their views of the Industry are
undermet to stand up and be counted.

The WISPA Board Election schedule has been set. All interested members need
to go to http://nominations.wispa.org/ and fill out the application for the
ballot. We encourage and expect to get a very good response to this year's
call for directors. We have grown substantially in the last six months and
WISPA is maturing into the lead association for the WISP community.
Applications are due in 2 weeks, so don't procrastinate. Further
information about the election process and the responsibilities of the board
can be found in the bylaws at http://www.wispa.org/?page_id=4

THE NOMINATION & ELECTION PROCESS

Here are the important dates for those of you following the election,
running for a board position and who will be taking part in the election
process.

May 1st, 2007 - Applications due.

May 14, 2007 - Qualified nominees compiled and submitted to the standing
Board of Directors. Nominee information made available via the WISPA Web
site for member review.

June 15, 2007 - Election of new Board members.

All members are eligible to run for a board position. Only Principal and
Vendor members may vote for board positions. Only one vote per company is
allowed. Instructions and credentials for voting will be sent to each member
company via email prior to election. If you are a member company and do not
receive instructions for voting or credentials it is your responsibility to
request such information by emailing [EMAIL PROTECTED] or calling 618-244-6868
and requesting help getting your instructions and credentials for voting.

UNDERSTANDING THE ROLE OF THE BOARD

The role of the board is to set policies that will ensure that it fulfills
its legal and professional responsibilities to members. The board sets the
strategic direction and leadership tone for the organization.

The WISPA Board of Directors is comprised of seven (7). Each director shall
serve for a term of one (1) year and until his or her successor is elected
and qualified, or until such director's earlier death, resignation,
incapacity to serve, or removal.

All paid WISPA members are eligible for board positions, however the
majority of the board will be WISPA Principal Members.

Sincerely,
