Re: [WISPA] Do you provide backup services?

2008-12-09 Thread John Thomas
Based on the reviews, it looks like these may have some firmware problems...

Marlon, what kind of space are you talking about?

Here's a Buffalo box that does 4 TB ( 3TB in RAID 5) for $1000

As far as client software I really like Cobian Backup v8. I havn't touched
v7 or 9. It does a great job automating things (email, runs as a service,
keeps directory structure, etc) and is open source.

Thanks!

Do you happen to know if those are new or reman units? Seems pretty dang
cheap. I'm after inexpensive, not cheap.

I could sure see putting one of those into the web severs and then selling a
lot more space to people or lower our prices. I figured that this much
space was gonna cost me well over a grand.

You could do that. Or put them in the promise product. I love that
thing It took me all of 15 minutes to rack the chasis, populate the
drives
and provision the storage. iSCSI drivers exist for Windows and Linux.
Chasis ran around 2k.

I have a 100 meg pipe that I pay about $1k for. But it's that low because I
only pay for our average usage (well, 95%).

If I were buying 20 megs I'd not give a rip how much of that people were
using. Well, I'd care, but not nearly as much. If we did it that way we'd
at least have a stable bill. As it is our bills keep going up and up, fast,
so we watch what people do very closely. Probably more so than most
companies have to.

Re: [WISPA] Do you provide backup services?

2008-12-07 Thread Travis Johnson

We use Handy Backup as well (on the client side). Then we setup a Linux
FTP server in our NOC (total cost for 1u server with RAID 0 drives was
less than $500) and we installed Webmin so anyone can add users to the
box with a simple web interface.

Handy Backup allows you to use FTP for the backups, so that's what the
clients do. I think cost is like $35 for a license and it works pretty
well.

else's software, but it has so many files that it errors on, it's
ridiculous
I have to manually remove that file from the backup set and try again.

Wow

Bitch and complain about WISPA's position and actions (your view) and
complain about sucking up for federal funds but you are real quick to
use this WISPA sponsored and paid for list for your own self benefit.

Talk about self-righteous bullshit!

Practice what you preach dude!

Go jump back in the pond. Aren't frogs suppose to hibernate for the

spring. If not it will at least give us all a break from the soap opera
going on here.
