[WISPA] freeside help
Hi All, We mostly like our freeside install. I can't handle freeside the company anymore though. It's been a year now and our credit cards still won't run. Both sides tell me that the other side won't contact them. sigh I finally was able to afford the new radius server we needed (the old one is doing too much and is over 4 years old) and now I can't get radius finished up. That's been at least 2 maybe 3 weeks. Much longer if you count delays on my end I sometimes hate not knowing how to set all this stuff up :-). When we first got freeside we told them that we HAD to have the new FCC 477 data included with all customer records AND a report in the FCC's desired format. They put custom data fields in for us but no report! I can't get the data back out. Now, we have to report the info to the FCC and we're being told that we need to upgrade to the latest version of freeside. It won't use our census tract data, the mechanism has been automated. So we just spent a year with a 1 day per week employee, typing info into freeside and part of it is being dumped. I don't think we'll be able to override the automatic census mechanism even though our experience so far has been that ALL automated conversions are roughly 50% wrong. We've even had people show up in the wrong state! ug We also have a couple of searches that we have to be able to do. And a custom form or two. Freeside is ghastly expensive for thier time and they take weeks sometimes months to even give us a quote. I'm "THIS" close to writing off the entire company and any product they ever produce and just hiring the extra help I'll need to keep quickbooks, access, excel, and our other stand along applications going. It'll be far less stressful. I've talked to a couple of guys that use freeside and have offered to help us get some of this working but so far none has actually come though with any actual work. Is there a GOOD freeside tech out there that has a good attitude toward his customers that aren't able to do their own fine tuning? We need some hand holding and have some requirements that apparently others don't care about (little things like the ability to sort customers based on what tower they are on). I have GOT to get this project wrapped up or toss it out and start over with something else. Call us, we'll tell you what we need help with, tell me what it'll cost. If I can afford you your hired It'll be very helpful if you are known on the list or at least have references that are known here. HELP! thanks marlon 509.988.0260 WISPA Wants You! [WISPA] Freeside import
Sorry to bother everyone again with a freeside question, but has anyone ever successfully imported data using a csv file into freeside? If so, could you hit me off list. Re: [WISPA] Freeside
I can understand this a little, but mail mail servers can be just as complex, and I can find tons of people willing to get paid by the hour to support me on any flavor of mail server on any version of Linux. I'd be willing to pay a nice hourly fee to get my problem fixed. If you have an installation guide out there, and it is accurate, I wouldn't think there could be that many things that could go wrong. The documentation is somewhat lacking. Freeside is distributing 1.9.1 but the latest version I can find on how to install "the regular way" is 1.7.4. I'm sure this is where the "complexity" comes in. Obviously some bugs have been fixed, features added, etc. There could be some problems in the docs, a patch for instance in the Apache set up portion that no longer seems to be needed, or new modules that need to be added that just aren't in the docs. The RPM's aren't "really" maintained so they are pretty much worthless. Support for mysql is just non-existent as just about everyone I've talked to has said "just use postgre and it will work". So, why is it even an option? I really am not trying to get something for nothing. What I am looking at Freeside for is to see if it I can integrate it with some other software that I currently write and sell. I wanted to go through the install process so that I could understand it myself. I'm willing to pay for services, but as the developer on this end, I want to fully understand the software and it's capabilities before I jump in with both feet. Seeing a working version is not enough for me. I want to get under the hood. I'm willing to pay a support contract, a licensing fee, or whatever if the software fits my needs, but if I can't even get it running to see if it will work for me, I'm not interested. I'm certainly not willing to shell out $2200 for an evaluation, but a few hundred is not unreasonable if it does what I think it will. More money will follow in the form of a support contract or development fees. Sorry about the rant. I've heard good things about the product and I would love to get to try it out, if only Cameron Jeremy Davis wrote: > On Tue, 2009-11-24 at 16:01 -0600, Mike Hammett wrote: > >> That's kinda sad. Re: [WISPA] Freeside
There are companies that do open source support day in, day out. Anything Linux. I am sure there are more companies that expand to BSD. It isn't impossible, just charge by the hour. Xymon is supported by a community and I believe there is a company or two that offers paid support. Re: [WISPA] Freeside
I just hired a Linux smart friend of mine to tackle it. If he gets it right, I'll see if he's willing to do it for someone else. Well the first line... NO CONFIGURATION TABLE FOUND at /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.8/FS/UID.pm Something is missing in that. Can't say what it is because it looks more like a library, not configuration. Re: [WISPA] Freeside
Ran into the same roadblock and gave up. The problem is that the dependencies are there but have the wrong version. You'll need to roll back to the older version the new packages rely on. Re: [WISPA] Freeside + QuickBooks
Just use QuickBooks to do your regular bookkeeping, and Freeside to handle the Accounts Receivable from your ISP customers. Everyday, we input all of our payments into Freeside, then add up the deposit and put the total deposit into QuickBooks under "Freeside Deposits". This system has worked great for us for the last several years.
