Re: [WISPA] Maybe someone has suggestions... - Tower work

2006-09-08 Thread Cliff Leboeuf
Mark,

I have used a local communications company that has been in business about
25 years.

They do tower work, including the erection and maintenance and they just
increased their price to $45 per man our.

Maybe I'm just lucky, but I suggest if you can find an small older paging,
trunking system or two-way radio provider, the rates may be better. But, I
also think it depends on your area.

So far, we have 2 prices for doing a standard tower inspection of about a

But the price is about $3500.

I don't believe they can actually pay that out. Can someone point me to a
list or some resource that can point me to tower teams in eastern WA or OR,
that might not be quite this much?If they can't do that, it really puts
a wrinkle in my plans to put stuff on their tower, as I won't put anything
on it, nor can I get a climber to put stuff on it, unless the work is done
 in the first place.

 Any references would be appreciated.

 Thanks

 Mark

2006-09-07 Thread Mark Koskenmaki
I'ts not my nickel, and not my tower.

I was told it was a 3 hour job with a 2 man crew by one of the tower
companies I got a quote from. But they also charged me an additional 10
hours of travel time. I understand the cost of a crew, but in each case,
the problem is not the time on the tower, it's travel - being 300 miles or
more away.

The rates I was quoted was 85/man/hr, which I thought were reasonable.

I was hoping there was just someone closer.it sucks that travel is the
majority of the cost.

Mark - industry rates for a tower crew is $70.00 - $110.00 per hour /
PER MAN - That doesn't include travel which most bill out at $50.00/hour
 PER man for travel time.

This would be a full days work with a 3 man crew - Most will use a 4 man
crew to get this done. The $3500.00 seems about right for any tower crew
that has experienced hands and the proper insurance/tools.

Remember - you hire a cheap crew - you are in for cheap work and a
 crappy job.
