I will no longer hookup ME systems unless I can use DHCP with a
DSL/Cable router connected to the radio.

Re: [WISPA] WindowsME network issue

2005-10-04 Thread Brian Rohrbacher

I carry a USB flash drive with me everywhere I go.  On of the VERY
useful things on it is the winsock fix.  It takes 15 seconds to apply
it and it then forces a reboot.  I use it all the time, sometimes "just
in case" when I need a reboot, just because it forces a reboot.  I will
set a sub up, and try to connect.  If I can't I winsock.  99% of the
time it works.  the other 1% is bad network card or cable issue, like
needing a crossover.  The winsock fix for XP that I have works on all
M$ OSs.  During the 15 second process it detects the OS.

Thanks to both of you.  What I forgot in the first post was that between the first time I was there last week and today, the customer had a local shop try to figure it out.  They completly reloaded the machine.

RE: [WISPA] WindowsME network issue

2005-10-04 Thread Jonathan Schmidt

Scott,
ME was 98 with features and more bugs.

I've
had a family member with ME & an intractable network
anomoly and finally de-installed the TCP/IP, then de-installed

the
Ethernet, then rebooted...and it found Ethernet and I
re-installed the TCP/IP then I could get it to
work.

Make
sure they don't have some sort of firewall installed.

Anyway, treat it like 98 with bugs.
