[WSG] Standards compliant HTML and flashvars don't mix [Virus checkedAU]
This email is to be read subject to the disclaimer below. Hi all, It's been a while since I've contributed anything to this list (some would argue that I never have) but today I have something which I hope may be of use to some. It's basically the results of some testing I did today to confirm my guesses that Mac browsers have problems standards compliant flash (Satay or Hixie). http://markl.f2o.org/blog/2004/06/flashvars-and-valid-html-dont-mix.html Cheers, Mark Lynch PS - if the blog page looks messed up just reload it and it should fix it. Re: [WSG] CSS Menu Issues - Client Site
Hi Jezz, I haven't looked at question 1, but here is 2 and 3. 2) If you have the list items on a single line in your code these breaks disappear. Funny because I thought this issue was only with IE. example: lia href=#Item one/a/lilia href=#Item two/a/lilia href=#Item three/a/li 3) The break is due to you adding a top margin height of 7 pixels on your unorderlist. #navlist ul { padding: 0; margin: 7px 0 0 0; } If you remove this and leave margin at 0 this break will close. I'll see what your question 1 is about. Ian. www.e-lusion.com This is a multi-part message in MIME format. Hello there. I'm developing a site for a local hat shop, and I'm having some problems with the menu. If you could please take a look at the following link: http://www.affectus.net/freelance/2004_05_phathats/ Here are the issues I am experiencing: 1) I would like for the navigation to stretch 100% of the width (750px). I will style the a:active stuff later, once the base is aligned the way I would like. 2) I notice there is a break between the different boxes of the navigation. I'd like to know how to get rid of these things. 3) In Firefox .8 (which I test on), I find that there is a break in the white background right about where the navigation is. I would like to make a solid white background from header to footer. Thanks so much for your time. I hope you guys can figure it out, I've been banging my head on the table for the last two hours. [WSG] Floats changing when mouseover How to fix?
I know I've seen the answer to this somewhere but I'm blowed if I can find where now.. On my page at http://bluegrass.org.au/Magazine/newreleases/index.cfm. Using IE6, when you put the mouse over the link more . the float containing the image reduces in size to match the 'more' link. Then when you mouseover the image, which is also a link, you see the whole image again. (the CSS is at http://bluegrass.org.au/styles/Bluegrass_Australia.css ) Can anyone tell me what to do about it please? Or point me to the article about this that I can't find now? There probably isn't a standard as such, but if there is I can't find any reference to it. If you're going to reference the numbers they are content. RE: [WSG] Rant about Bobby
Dear Group, Ive come to use Bobby for one reason and that is insuring that all images have alt tags. I manage a website or at least try to where too many people have the ability to add content and unfortunately other items to our website. In my opinion the comments pages that come up are too cumbersome and many comments do not address issues on my page but possible issues or they are incorrect. It has also called me on a linking issue where one word out of three was the same to describe two different links and told me I shouldnt use the same description to describe different links. Re: [WSG] Rant about Bobby
Hello, Just as there are ways to create hackfree markup and css, there are ways to satisfy Bobby. Usually by the time one has done it, one has come up with a better page. Using Bobby has probably been the one thing that helped me to learn to appreciate the value of well structured markup. I learned more about standards and accessibility there than I can ever expect to here. In fact, I would have to say that I much prefer Bobby, with its tight-lipped, pitiless scrutiny. At least one can expect some kind of a clue as to which direction to turn. Whatsmore, if one disagrees with Bobby, one may write to Watchfire and raise one's objections. The folks there actually DO reply. I know this from experience. What may one come to expect from the WSG list? http://www.fuckinggoogleit.com. Real cute. [WSG] G RATED LIST
LOL Yeah, I'm not laughing! You should see the bounces I get from many many (Government) mail servers that block anything containing the f word (probably when it is in a URL). New rule (I really didn't think we had to make a rule about this) Anyone using profanity on this list in future will be dumped with extreme prejudice. Even if they're in urls. We have many members from many cultures/religions AND we have students as well, some quite young. I will not stand for anything that can possibly offend any member, especially when it adds to the weight of bounces into my inbox. We are definitely G RATED. Crap is the worst word I'll allow on the list.
