[WSG] object element in front of all content

2009-02-16 Thread Robin Gorry
Hi All,

I am putting together a basic cross browser wysiwyg using the object element
instead of an iframe to display the html, as the object element is standards
compliant.

The object is used to display another html page like so:

However my problem is with IE, when I open my floating div for a dialog box it
renders behind the object and any amount of z-index toggling or adding ; (which works or flash) doesn't work.

Does anyone have a solution to this or do I just have to work around it? Like
so:

Although this would be a big branch for ie.

Thank you

Robin.

Is it more accessible to have your link in a sentence, as the URL, or as the
word 'link'?

Use Example A; you can make as visible as you like with CSS.

ExampleA makes the information more readable but the link less visible
ExampleB the link is visible and page a bit neater but target URL hidden
ExampleC is great if you want to print

ExampleA ... as referred to in the http://www.whatever.gov.au/constitution";>Australian Constitution.

ExampleB ... as referred to in the Australian Constitution http://www.whatever.gov.au/constitution";>(link) .

ExampleC... as referred to in the Australian Constitution http://www.whatever.gov.au/constitution";>(
www.whatever.gov.au/constitution).

ExampleC is the most thorough but makes it very difficult to read. Interested
in people's opinions.

Re: [WSG] Accessibility testing

2009-02-16 Thread Dani Iswara
On Firefox (fx) with web developer extension, add ATRC web
accessibility checker (testing; sometimes temporary down) against WCAG
2.0, WCAG 1.0, BITV, Stanca Act, Section 508.

Open the tools menu of its extension:
Edit tools
Add
choose (tool type) URL
add: http://checker.atrc.utoronto.ca/servlet/Checkacc?submit1=Check+It&file=
give some description
OK

I guess colour contras analyser extension (luminosity contrast ratio
[WCAG 2.0] and AERT colour contrast algorithm) is useful
And try FireVox extension for the speech reader on fx.

Only if the div is styled to "contain floats"...

Lots of options linked in on that page.

Re: [WSG] a Div tag won't pick up the height of a floated image?

2009-02-16 Thread Prisca schmarsow
Brett,

not sure if I understood you correctly but this seems easily solved byt
clearing the float with your navigation bar. If I read this right - you are
talking about 2 different lists? One to be positioned next to the image, the
other (navigation bar) to sit below image and list?

in that case:

   1. image floated left
   2. your (following the image in the HTML) will be positioned right,
   next to the image
   3. the navigation bar's then needs to be given 'clear: left' in the
CSS in order to sit below both the image and first list

Hope this helps - and sorry if I misunderstood ;)

[WSG] a Div tag won't pick up the height of a floated image?

2009-02-16 Thread Brett Patterson
Will a div tag pick up the height of an image that is floated left? I have
an image that is floated to the left and an unordered list that I am trying
to get to move to the right side of an image, in a horizontal layout...the
unordered list (navigation bar) is also in a horizontal line position. I
need the navigation to align to the bottom of the image...the image's height
is 100px, and the width is 200px...how would I accomplish this?

You can try the Illinois Functional Web Accessibility Evaluator
service. It is a free service, no cost to create an account.

This is the Candidate release 1, that hopefully be our production
version available later this week.

Please let me know what you think of it.
