Thanks Bill,
The problem is mine, I know. I have several email addresses and accounts
so when I rarely have to report bugs here I obviously pick the wrong one.
Anyway it finally arrived so maybe you can shed some light on the
problem I'm having ;)

Good question.
I was not aware of a groups.io list or would have used it as I have
many accounts on there.

I have only used this sourceforge address for wsjt in the past, I think.
I only use it for bug reporting very intermittently and recall having
problems in the past.

I don't use the digests, just direct mail.
I have been trying to post this one mail to this list for over 3 hours

2021-07-03 Thread Carlos Lemmi
I had problems with my email
*w...@arrl.net *
it's link to* wb6...@aol.com *
my old license.
So when I post here, I say *I'm not a member.*

I created a new email in Gmail, but Gmail do not allow 4 letter in the
name, it has to have at least six
so I could not create
*w...@gmail.com *
and therefore I created
*wdi...@gamail.com *
is this also going to bounce as a 'non member post' ??? *(reason for this
test post)*

*I'm WD6Y. *
I registered as *WD6Y* and as *WDi6iY*
I don't want to register as *WB6MCW* because it's not my license anymore
and after a while someone else may get it.
I had *wb6...@aol.com * for many years and I need to keep
it as long as I can, even if I can not use it here.

Thanks, if this works I will post my experience with the new WSJT-X rc2

Re: [wsjt-devel] Test with DXpedition mode 12 May

2018-05-13 Thread Ton PA0TBR
Hi Bobby,

That does work nicely if you prepare for an upcoming DXpedition.

But when you come across a DXpedition in progress you want to switch
quickly without loosing any information. If you then use Configurations,
the software restarts which not only takes time but you also revert to some
previously configured frequency, callsign, reset the Band Activity window
etc.

[wsjt-devel] Test with DXpedition mode 12 May

2018-05-12 Thread Ton PA0TBR
Many thanks for the tests today. I run in the test with v1.9.0-rc4 r8642

With the weak signals today I did notice a problem.
During the QSO with K1JT, I was still repeating Tx3 when Joe informed me by
pingjockey that I was in the log.
Normally I would restart from Tx1 when I time out and have not seen the
RR73.
The Tx3 msg is repeated 12 times before it times out. I now understand that
the Fox gives up after 3 RR73 messages.
Question: Should Tx3 not stop after 3 or maybe 6 attempts? That would
trigger me to restart with Tx1.

After my QSO with G4WJS I changed my call for a 2nd test and ended up
transmitting on 14.074 and missed on a 2nd QSO.
Cause: When the menu is exited via an OK button then the frequency is
changed to the default frequency.

A configurable color for decodes of FT8 messages in Fox mode would be very
useful so that DXpedition mode can be identified and Dog mode enabled.

An easier method to switch to Hound mode and back would be nice. Maybe a
checkbox on the main window or an FT8-Hound option in the Mode drop down
menu.

When I entered a frequency in the "band box" of WSJT-X the "Enable Tx"
button is triggered. I now see that it is triggered by the Enter button.
That came a bit unexpected and made me wonder why my transmitter was
running... This also happens in other modes.
Question: Is tis intentional and can it be configured to ignore the nEter
button?

[wsjt-devel] Test

2018-04-09 Thread jarmo
First hour signal was +3 and I got -24
I started with 20 watts and ended to 200 watts,
when I got that -24dB report.
Second hour hear best -8dB and started again from 20 watts
went up to 1K and didn't get w7/kh7z :(. Tried several
places, no lucky.
At the end of test last decoded signal was -15dB. Actually
all NA stations was between -5 to -18 dB.
Hounds were between +17 to -24dB, that +17 was one RY station :)

So, now the most important thing is to find suitable freq. and
operators learning course :)

Quite fine test anyway...

Brings all the coding testers into line with each other.Differences in source
now are pretty much just protocol specific.Test output is identical except for
different message set addons for certain protocols.

I also created a regression test program that could be included in the build
chain if desired.  It immediately exits with non-zero return code on errors so
would work in a Makefile.

they are not generated by the message encoding routines but synthesized

Mike is trying to unify the code programs which have a -t option to
test a selection of messages. The programs encode and decode the
messages going through every step up to the communication channel and
then skips the on air and signal detection steps starting decoding at

1000 Hz = tune

1250 Hz = please send messages

1500 Hz = RRR

1750 Hz = 73

Joe still intends to provide the same single tone messages for QRA64 as they
are about 4 dB easier to detect than the QRA64 progressive AP system. But
at present we manually insert them for QRP EME using the @ feature.

Not sure if it is relevant to what Michael is doing but JT4f and QRA64 use
messages of the form Call+Call+signal report rather than OOO and RO style
signal reports.

I am also not sure what is the intended use of the test messages but WSJT-X
already includes simulators that can be used for testing that provide
messages with specified S/N and spreading. The shape of the spreading does
vary with frequency and G3WDG has produced simulators that can be inserted
in WSJT-X for JT65, JT4 and QRA that use spreading shapes specific to 10 GHz
EME. In the long run it might be useful to have the simulators with
adjustable shapes for each band but this is not a priority.

Hi Mike,

no I don't think so. JT4 uses single tones for the "short codes", they are
not generated by the message encoding routines but synthesized directly by
the Modulator class. Otherwise you are correct.

Hi Mike, I'm not quite sure what you are asking here? All the protocols in
WSJT-X except ISCAT use a similar, but not exactly the same, message language.
Modes used on EME will include some form of short codes, JT4 uses a single tone
for RO, RRR and 73 and probably for "I'm here" in a sked. JT65 EME usage (which
doesn't use SNR based reports) allows for short codes (alternating pair of
tones) for RO, RRR and 73. OOO messages are reduced to the same message without
the OOO which is superfluous.
MSK144 has two special forms, short codes sent as shorter messages with
hashed callsigns using a different encoding and contest style replies that use
antipodal grids (only in the message -- the decoder shifts them back to the
real grid). With QRA64 the AP system negates the need for short code messages
completely because sensitivity increases as the QSO progresses. 73

Whatever tests you might choose to do would have more value if they were
your own -- i.e., independent of tests already done by others.

If you want representative JT9 and JT65 data, set up in dual mode on
14.076, on a weekend in daytime, check "Save all", and let it run for
all day. In ten hours you'll have 600 files and probably 5000 or more
decodes.

I have checked the WSPRnet.org spotting code and I can see that spotting
will stop if there is a delay or error uploading spots. I have changed
it to resume spotting on the next period if possible.
