you are right. To boost translation speed I always search through the
sources and have a look in what context a text token is used.
Launchpad at least gives the source file and line as a hint.

Actually you don't change it to "Automatic" because that will try to
guess the right language. But there should be the option to choose
"None", which basically means that you use no translation, so the
english defaults won't get translated.
