[Xfce-bugs] [Bug 16869] New: [Feature Request] Develop a mediainfo plugin for Thunar
https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16869 Bug ID: 16869 Summary: [Feature Request] Develop a mediainfo plugin for Thunar Classification: Xfce Core Product: Thunar Version: unspecified Hardware: All OS: Linux Status: NEW Severity: normal Priority: Medium Component: General Assignee: xfce-bugs@xfce.org Reporter: junaidahmed.pub...@outlook.com Target Milestone: 1.8.13 Hi, I think Thunar needs a mediainfo plugin. It is the only major feature I miss on Xfce (Xubuntu). People expect to see a certain amount of information about a file when they open "Properties" window. While Thunar can provide enough information about common image files, it can't provide any information about common audio/video files. I know about the separate mediainfo software but the experience is not integrated. Caja has this ability with the "caja-mediainfo" plugin (which gets pre-installed on Ubuntu Mate). I'm hoping to see the same functionality on Xfce (Xubuntu). [Xfce-bugs] [Bug 16868] New: The context menu of window buttons always opens in a fixed position
https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16868 Bug ID: 16868 Summary: The context menu of window buttons always opens in a fixed position Classification: Xfce Core Product: Xfce4-panel Version: 4.14.4 Hardware: PC (x86_64) OS: Linux Status: NEW Severity: normal Priority: Medium Component: Window Buttons Assignee: xfce-bugs@xfce.org Reporter: lucasw...@gmail.com Target Milestone: Panel 4.14 Created attachment 9876 --> https://bugzilla.xfce.org/attachment.cgi?id=9876&action=edit The menu opens at the beginning of the button, not in the direction of the cursor I like to use the window buttons expanded to fill the panel where the tasklist is. That way, I noticed that when you right-click on a window, the context menu opens in a fixed position, always at the beginning of the window button, next to the program icon. I think the menu should open in the direction where it was clicked. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Xfce-bugs mailing list Xfce-bugs@xfce.org https://mail.xfce.org/mailman/listinfo/xfce-bugs

Sounds like a good idea to me. I guess if there are multiple hdds/ssds, it would be ok to have queued file-transfer (In reply to Cyrille Pontvieux from comment #17) > Ok I made some tests (fuse mounts, USB disk mounts, PTP mounts, MTP mounts, > Samba mounts, and local files on different partitions). > > `g_file_find_enclosing_mount` returns a non-NULL gmount only for attached > devices ; for local files it returns NULL. > Then a test on `g_mount_can_unmount` could be done. Promising !, thanks alot ! In case you want to as well check for "same device id", we probably would need an additional enum value .. e.g: Transfer files in parallel: [ Always | only for local files | only for local files if source device matches target device | Never ] ... hope that text would not be too long. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Xfce-bugs mailing list Xfce-bugs@xfce.org https://mail.xfce.org/mailman/listinfo/xfce-bugs

[Xfce-bugs] [Bug 16688] Freeze new copy where source or target device is shared with another running one
https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16688 --- Comment #15 from Cyrille Pontvieux --- Well it's not that simple: - `thunar_file_is_local` simply checks whether the scheme is `file://` or not. It just excludes any `http://`, and the like, schemes. - `G_FILE_ATTRIBUTE_FILESYSTEM_USE_PREVIEW` is queried over the filesystem. But from what I checked with the thumbnail setting, it still builds thumbnails for any images I have on my USB key, despite I checked « only for local files ». That means that `G_FILESYSTEM_PREVIEW_TYPE_IF_LOCAL` is probably returned for my USB key even if it's not really « local ». So I'm not sure that any of these settings will apply correctly to copy in sequences when using a slow USB key/disk. It will probably work for copying over the network (like sshfs, nfs, …). The checks for the device id still seams a better option. The only drawback seems when doing multiple copying from and to a fast disk, like an internal SSD. One way to fix this would be to allow parallel copies when source and destination device ids are the same. Not sure how to display this as an understandable option… By the way, I think that the thumbnail option might benefit from any finding here for what is really a « local file ». -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Xfce-bugs mailing list Xfce-bugs@xfce.org https://mail.xfce.org/mailman/listinfo/xfce-bugs

https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16688 --- Comment #14 from Cyrille Pontvieux --- Why would you want parallel copies from your ssd to your ssd? I don't see the point, as it will slow down a bit the whole copies. And if you really want, you could hit the Force button. But maybe I don't understand something here. About having two separate options in the parameters dialog for source and destination, I'm really not sure too. Maybe one option would be enough. I can also maybe improve the code with using `thunar_file_is_local` but I need to be sure what a local file is for thunar. I will investigate the thumbnails code to see if it could indeed be of any help here. For you're case (and probably for my personal laptop too), the « Only for local files » would be ok as a SSD is usally quick enough. But for my work laptop (mechanical disk), I will probably choose « Never ». And « Always » would be like the actual behavior. When there is only one monitor setup - it's not that big of an issue, but consider multiple display setup, lets say I have 2 monitors. I setup with xrandr a 2x2 scale for one of the monitors. That scale setting is not reflected in the xfce4-settings display module - so the graphical representation of thix 2x2 scaled display is 2 times too small - it doesn't occupy as much space as it should. Look at the attached screenshot. The monitor that is at the very top, in reality is immediately on top of the bottom one. So if I move the mouse cursor, there is no gap really - but xfce4-settings display module makes it look like there is a gap. when I try to align those monitors to be snapped together, one on top of another - in reality they overlap. It took me awhile to figure out what's happening here, but finally it makes sense. Yeah, it's just an arbitrary number. The GDK API looked like multiple keycodes could be mapped to a single keyval. I arbitrarily chose 8 as an unlikely high number of keycodes to be mapped to a keyval, but it is just a guess. I have little familiarity with GDK or X. [Xfce-bugs] [Bug 16763] patch for xfce-shortcuts-grabber.c which wrongly ungrabs keys when updating grabbed ones
https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16763 --- Comment #19 from Landry Breuil --- Many thanks Jethro for the steps to reproduce, definitely helpful (and many thanks guido for the detailed bug report, and pushing it back upstream :). Fwiw, i can reproduce the bug on OpenBSD with xfce 4.14 using xmodmap -e 'keysym Up = Print' - once in the 'broken situation', xev shows no KeyPress/KeyRelease for the remapped key. Trying to re-reset the shortcuts via xfce4-keyboard-settings doesnt 'fix' the situation, nor re resetting the x keymap via setxkbmap. on an (unrelated?) note, when resetting shortcuts, on stderr there are two glib error msgs: (xfce4-keyboard-settings:75089): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: 09:42:19.278: g_value_get_string: assertion 'G_VALUE_HOLDS_STRING (value)' failed (xfce4-keyboard-settings:75089): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: 09:42:19.289: g_value_get_string: assertion 'G_VALUE_HOLDS_STRING (value)' failed building libxfce4ui with your patch, restarting xfce4 session, remapping 'up' to print definitely shows screenshooter when hitting up, then resetting the xkeymap to the default ( setxkbmap gb -option -option compose:prsc here) definitely fixes the 'up' key behaviour. as for the patch itself, cant really comment on the code/logic, but why hardcoding to 8 ? is it 'an amount of keys one might remap' in X ? 'an amount of shortcuts one might setup in xfce4-keyboard-settings' ? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Xfce-bugs mailing list Xfce-bugs@xfce.org https://mail.xfce.org/mailman/listinfo/xfce-bugs

https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16763 Jethro Nederhof changed: What|Removed |Added CC||jet...@jethron.id.au --- Comment #17 from Jethro Nederhof --- Hi @Simon, The bug is more generic than just breaking the Up arrow, but the Up arrow is the most noticable symptom. You can simulate the Up arrow situation that shows the cleanup problem by starting XFCE and running something like this: ``` # enable default XFCE keyboard shortcuts in Settings > Keyboard > Application Shortcuts > Reset to Defaults # set 'Up' to 'Print' like in the intial keymap for some people (for some reason) xmodmap -e "keysym Up = Print" # pressing Up should now launch xfce screen grabber # this is the wrong keymap! reset to something sane (not sure what triggers this correction for people with the problem, but it seems to happen automatically on first keypress) setxkbmap -model pc105 # or whatever your default was # pressing Up should no longer launch xfce screen grabber # but it also will not send Up to your terminal or any other application, because XFCE didn't ungrab it # that application will 'flash' as the root window takes focus, does nothing because the keypress matched no shortcuts, restores focus to your application ``` Doing the above with this patch: ``` # enable default XFCE keyboard shortcuts in Settings > Keyboard > Application Shortcuts > Reset to Defaults # set 'Up' to 'Print' like in the intial keymap for some people (for some reason) xmodmap -e "keysym Up = Print" # pressing Up should now launch xfce screen grabber # this is the wrong keymap! reset to something sane (not sure what triggers this correction for people with the problem, but it seems to happen automatically on first keypress) setxkbmap -model pc105 # or whatever your default was # pressing Up should no longer launch xfce screen grabber # Up correctly registers in your terminal and previous command is displayed or whatever your shell does with Up ``` Since it's fixed downstream on FreeBSD already with this patch, I spun up a Debian VM I have (Bullseye/sid, but should be replicable on more stable versions or your test container, too) and the behaviour is as above with xfce4 4.14. [Xfce-bugs] [Bug 16854] New: The lower bounds for Slow Keys and for Bounce Keys in xfce4-accessibility-settings should become lower, e.g. 10 ms
https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16854 Bug ID: 16854 Summary: The lower bounds for Slow Keys and for Bounce Keys in xfce4-accessibility-settings should become lower, e.g. 10 ms Classification: Xfce Core Product: Xfce4-settings Version: 4.12.0 Hardware: PC (x86_64) OS: Linux Status: NEW Severity: normal Priority: Medium Component: Accessibility Settings Assignee: xfce-bugs@xfce.org Reporter: adalbert.hans...@gmx.de Target Milestone: Xfce 4.14 I am using Xubuntu 18.04.4 LTS on a Lenovo ThinkPad W530. If I do not not hit a key exactly, it may happen that more than one character is recognized. In general, the first keystroke that is meant is the meant one, but the neighboring key which may have been striped one follows it. Therefore I want to suppress the second recognized keystroke of an adjacent only striped key. I assume that his signals appears a few ms later, but the minimum value 50 ms in *slow keys* and in *bounce keys* are too long for my purpose. (For a person with shaky hands larger values are useful, of course, but for the application of a laptop keyboard with relatively short strokes, where you easily trigger an adjacent key with, this function would also be useful for non-handicapped people - if only the limit were not so high. Of course, they can also be applied for keyboards with bouncing contacts). This change is probably very simple to implement: just lowering the constants determining the lower bound for the minimum ranges of the two sliders. I think 10 ms would be a reasonable lower bound for both settings (with some margin). I would would probably choose something in the range of 20 ms for a myself. For handicapped users, the presently available values are ok. For handicapped people it might be of value to have a *checkbox to let the system beep* in case a second keystroke is suppressed (either on the same key or on another one - in many cases probably one in the vicinity). -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Xfce-bugs mailing list Xfce-bugs@xfce.org https://mail.xfce.org/mailman/listinfo/xfce-bugs
