Trouble in S3 ViRGE driver

2004-04-23 Thread Joachim Kuebart
Hi all,

the S3VWriteMode() function in the S3 ViRGE has a problem: it calls
vgaHWRestore() which might change from color to mono mode, and hence
changes the address of the CR register. I need the following patch for the
code to work.

RE: [XFree86] NEdit and xFree86

2004-04-23 Thread Mulcahy, Damien
Thanks for the reply Ryan. I've no specific problems, I'm just not familiar
to XFree86 and wasn't sure of it's scope. I have a lot of new programmers
who can't seem to work productively without a GUI editor so I wanted to check
it out before I installed XFree86.

[XFree86] Problemas launching firefox from a script

2004-04-23 Thread startux.org webmaster
Hi,

I'm developing a prototype of a multimedia Linux kiosk.

When the kiosk starts, it launches Firefox in fullscreen mode. It's
fine.

Then, i have a script in PERL called every 10 minutes by the cron daemon
to check if the kiosk has connection to the internet or not.
So, i test every 10 minutes the state of the conection.
If the state changes, i want to run Firefox with a different page.

The problem is that if i launch the script from a X terminal, everything
is ok.
When called by the cron daemon i get this error:

Failed to conect to X server

I'm running Mandrake 10.0 / WindowMaker / X 4.3.0.1

I sent you my PERL script and my crontab file so that you can evaluate
what's going on.

I've already run xhost + and export DISPLAY=:0.0, but no good :(

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Warm Regards,
Mário Gamito

[XFree86] Software XFree86 scaling extremely slow on SuSE 8.2

2004-04-23 Thread Pieter Hulshoff
Hello all,

When playing with xmame, I've noticed that software scaling is extremely slow
on SuSE 8.2 with my radeon 9000 card. I have games dropping from 500 fps to
20 fps! I've tried the same thing with Morphix (with the same version of
XFree86, and the same config file), but I had no such problems there, which
leads me to the thought that it is somehow linked to the XFree86 rpm in SuSE
8.2. Any ideas as to what the cause is, and how it may be corrected? Yes,
I've already ordered SuSE 9.1, but it's still a few weeks away. :)

[XFree86] Xkb failures

2004-04-23 Thread Tom Alsberg
I sent this message a few weeks ago, but got no reply. After checking
the archives now, I see the message didn't appear at all. I'm sorry
if you got this already... I'm hoping to get an answer:

Hi there.

Generally, I use the following configuration (or sometimes its
XF86Config equivalent, but that only on some machines I installed and
had no problems with) for most (PC104) keyboards I work with:

setxkbmap -keycodes 'xfree86' -types 'complete' -compat 'complete+leds(scroll)'
-symbols 'us(pc104)+altwin(meta_win)+altwin(meta_alt)+il+group(shift_toggle)'
-geometry 'pc(pc104)'

Once in a while it fails on a few computers with the unhelpful message
of Error loading new keyboard description. Usually I manage to
narrow it down and change the command a bit to work.

But recently, on a few machines setxkbmap just fails - no matter how I
run it, even with no arguments at all. Having decided to try to
understand some more and trace it, I saw that XkbGetKeyboardByName
returns 0 on those occasions. I built libX11 with debugging info and
discovered that the problem show somewhere inside the call to _XReply
in the line:

142 if ((!_XReply(dpy, (xReply *)rep, 0, xFalse))||(!rep.reported))

(there it fails)
but that's already beyond my current comprehension (what to do with
_XReply? What is it supposed to do? I don't remember that as a
common xlib function)

supplying the -v 10 argument to setxkbmap doesn't give much more
information. For example:

output

251:957[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~ $ setxkbmap -v 10
Setting verbose level to 10
locale is C
Applied rules from xfree86:
model: pc105
layout: us
Trying to build keymap using the following components:
keycodes: xfree86+aliases(qwerty)
types: complete
compat: complete
symbols:pc/pc(pc105)+pc/us
geometry: pc(pc105)
Error loading new keyboard description

/output

Why can't setxkbmap give some more insightful diagnostics (why did it
fail, where?)

Any idea what the problem is? Why is the behaviour so random
between different hosts?

This is XFree86 4.3.0, both the clients and libs, and the server, on
the same host.

  Thanks, any help appreciated,

Maybe you should try to change your driver..

Add the elodriver into your module section
Load elographics_drv.o

It should be in /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/input/elographics_drv.o
If not, find it on the net...

Then change your Driver in the input section to

Driver elographics

If you have the right value for Xmin etc.. It should work.

These works for me (Xfree 4.3..)

Completely disabling your mouse will leave you with a cursor parked in
the *middle* of your screen, immobile.

What you want is to make your cursor *transparent*, a topic which has
been covered on this list before, repeatedly. Track down the list

You are correct, the lack of direct rendering is the likely cause of the slow

assume that lsmod shows radeon and agpgart are both loaded.
