I have downloaded the latest version of XFree86 (4.3.0.99.11), compiled and installed
it under Red Hat Linux 8.0. But now, I can not enter the graphic mode. My board is
Intel 845G, here is the log:

i've just recently installed a RED HAT 8.0 LINUX distribution.
during the graphical setup my monitor, video card were both
detected perfectly (monitor probed as IBM E54 and video card
detected as INTEL 845 series).
however when the system reboots X cannot be initialised and
it falls
I copied all the binaries and subdirectories from XF86.org release 4.3 to a
cd (took about 2 hours).
copied Xinstall.sh (from the common subdirectory) to a temporary directory
under root (/root/jrmtemp).
ran: sh Xinstall.sh -check from that temporary directory.
Got an error message saying I

Whatever you were trying to run there, you've got the wrong
binaries. a.out is an old binary format used in the Linux 1.2
and earlier days.

We're missing some context. That is an error that should never
happen and indicates broken X-server or module code. What were
you doing that caused that?

and put "init 3" thats kill your X
them put "init 5" and "startx."

I just compiled 4.3.0 for my Alpha (RH Linux 6.1). When attempting to
start the server (after first running XFree86 -configure), I got a
server crash with signal 11. (Relevant files are attached.) Any hope

using it to to run IDL, a graphics pkg/language. When I run a program that
generates a plot, a window is opened with the graph. However, the graph
starts on the right-hand side and finishes on the left (split in half).
