well, i'd start by installing the nvidia drivers for you gf4. and then edit your config file. This is what mine looks like. I have a gf4 ti4200 and gf2 mx400 and running the 4496 drivers compiled for 2.4 and 2.6 kernels. Both work just fine. you can get the nvidia kernel and glx from

GeForce4 with DVI wasn't supported until XFree86 4.3. I don't know what version you have now. You want to be using the nv driver, not the vga driver as you are currently using. You may also need to add: Option CrtcNumber 1 to the Section Device of the XF86Config file if the screen isn't
