Well there you go - you learn something new each day!!
I always thought that SMAIL was local (inbound) delivery.
I have located SMTP entries and can see they are what I'm looking
for.
One thing I searched for in the smail

Maybe he means something like also logging failed smtp delivery attempts
in SMAIL

There's already a thorough log inside /smail/ for that.

Are you sure you don't have any other missing space in your command line?
It seems very likely so, since 15 secs means basically zero, and that's like
if the timeout value gets read as zero. Check the registry too.

Yes well that would be fine if I had 32 filters, but alas I have one filter
matching OUT.
And IF I had 32 filters in sequence, then it would still only count as one
smtp send attempt.
If you read the detail I sent initially, I got a bounce message to
postmaster showing SMTP failures at ~15

Sure its long (full of detail), but at least it is not the usual

Hi,
Can someone explain why the smtp send filter ran 32 times in quick
succession (15 second intervals), when retry sending to server using a
temporary (450) error, when my retry schedule is set for 10 retries over
12.5 hours.
See detail
