[xmail] Multiple emails with multiple recipients

2002-06-06 Thread Stig Østvang

Hi.

I installed Xmail (1.9-pre01) yesterday on a Win NT4 (installed same=20
morning, no SPs yet) to use as an internal mail server (slightly overkill,=
=20
but :-) ) and get the same problem as has been reported by someone else=
=20
earlier. When sending a mail to multiple recipients (all are using Win98=20
first edition and Outlook Express 5.00.), most of the times all=20
repcipients receive several mails. The machines are set up with multiple=20
accounts each and using rulesets (if To: contains transfer to folder=20
) to transfer mails for the different persons to their respective=20
folders. On some machines, if a mail is sent to two persons using the same=
=20
machine to check mail, each person get two mails. On another machines, one=
=20
person gets both mails I suspect that it might be both a Win98/Outlook=
=20
Express issue and possibly a Xmail issue. Anyone have a clue about what can=
=20
be done?

Best regards,

Stig =D8stvang

No. Just stock install. Set up server.tab, ctrlaccounts.tab and
ctrl.ipmap.tab, and used XMail Administrator 0.21e to create domain and
users. No fancy or advanced setup, just what was needed to get it up and
running...

could you look inside the account directory if there's a file named

which version of XMail are you using ?

2002-06-08 Thread Stig Østvang

Checked today, and no mailproc.tab in the useraccounts. Only Mailbox,
..ipconn and useruser.tab.

I also checked with my server (1.6 on Linux) using Eudora 5.1/win2k to
send/check local mails and there also both mails to the two test-accounts
ended up in the same folder. I think this might be a filter issue in the
mail-program since the filter can only be set up to check To:, not
Delivered-to:, and To: will have all the recipients, while Delivered-to:
will have only one recipient.

Stig

Btw, what is the best way to upgrade the mail-server? Just copy the
Xmail-executable from the tarball and replace the file in MailRoot/bin?
After the service is stopped, of course :-)

2003-06-19 Thread Stig Østvang

I have the standard files that came with Peter Lindeman's AV-script.

filters.in.tab =3D filters.out.tab =3D
*[tab]*[tab]0.0.0.0/0[tab]0.0.0.0/0[tab]av-filter.tab[newline]

av-filter.tab (in /var/MailRoot/filters) =3D
/var/MailRoot/filters/checkvirus.pl[tab]@@FILE[tab]@@FROM[tab]@@RCPT=
[tab]@@MSGID[newline]

I also tried to add perl /var/MailRoot/filters/checkvirus.pl in=20
av-filter.tab, without any change. I also read on the Forum that I had to=20
set the files executable (chmod 755 file), without any change. I tried to=20
start xmail in debug and I didn't get any indications that the filter were=
=20
triggered.

This is on a Linux box with Xmail 1.15

I'm not quite sure. We had a user specific that they didn't want to
have SpamAssassin running for their domain, and since I figured this
was possible for other of our customers, I made a filter entry for
each domain that should be using the filter.

This required setting the second column to [EMAIL PROTECTED]. For some
reason, it took me a real long time to get the syntax just right.
For most standard filters (applied to all users) using the two
wildcards *[tab]* worked fine.

I've never tried using the AV filter myself (since I don't have any
installed virus software).

Let us know what the specifics are for your filter, i.e. is it just
for selected users, a selected domain, or all users, and we can
probably give you better feedback on what your filters.in.tab file
should look like.

Have a nice day,
Toby

[xmail] Re: Error sending mail to Sourceforge

2003-08-10 Thread Stig Østvang

To me it looks like the Sourceforge list is complaining that his mailserver=
=20
doesn't accept nullsender addresses (which there was a discussion about a=20
year ago to block nullsender to fight spam, and the consensus was that it=20
doesn't help much, breaks RFC and prevent bounces, just like the=20
Sourceforge server complains about). He said he had tried=20
AllowNullSender[TAB]1[NEWLINE], and it hadn't helped.

So Stephen, are you sure you had the syntax correct, with a real TAB and a=
=20
newline. Could also try to restart the server afterwards (unless you had=20
stopped the server before you edited the file)?

Yeah it looks to me like you are getting a failure when you are trying t

you're using to write the email).

What they are complaining about is the MAIL FROM: .
Perhaps you include your address in there.

This error : 501 Syntax error in return path corresponds with null from
address.
And also and prevents you from getting bounces indicates the same.

The following is an error I received from Sourceforge's mailing list

[xmail] Problems getting glst to work

Hi all.

I've just installed glst on my mail-server, but I get a fork error for each
incomming email. I'm running Xmail 1.22 on CentOS4. The anti-virus check fires
correctly. Here is an example from an incomming mail when xmail is running in
debug-mode.

SMTP client connection from [67.18.3.134]
execv error: cmd='/var/MailRoot/glst'
SMTP filter error (-97): Filter = /var/MailRoot/glst
SMTP client exit [67.18.3.134]
SMAIL local SMTP = oestvang.no From = [EMAIL PROTECTED] To = [EMAIL
PROTECTED]
Filter run: Sender = [EMAIL PROTECTED] Recipient = [EMAIL PROTECTED] Filter
= /var/MailRoot/filters/antivir/checkvirus.pl Retcode = 7

Anyone have any good suggestions on what to try?

[xmail] Problems with attachments after server upgrade

2007-12-05 Thread Stig Østvang
Hi, all.

I upgraded my firewall (which also is my xmail server) yesterday and after=
that it seems like my attachments turns into garbage when they go out from=
 my server. I was running 1.22, but I installed 1.25 pre25 today, and the=
same still happens. If I send to my own local account, it works ok, but if=
I send to Yahoo or Gmail, the attachment grows and turns into garbage. I=
can receive without any problems and I'm using Eudora as my mail-program.=
The xmail-server is on a Clarkconnect box based on CentOS 4.5, so Linux.

I tried to send a xls-file, which was 105kb. When it arrived at my=
 Yahoo-account, it was 145kb...

Anyone that have a suggestion as to what can be wrong?

Best regards,

Stig =D8stvang

Hi, Davide.

Yes, I tried to save it to disk, and it was the same size as Yahoo claimed=
 (145kb, original was 105kb).

Hmm, did you try to save it on disk and see the on-disk size? I give it=20
for granted that you know that binary attachments gets encoded to base64,=
=20
that is about 1.5 times bigger that the original content...

[xmail] Re: Problems with attachments after server upgrade

2007-12-07 Thread Stig Østvang
Found the problem...

Eudora was set to use Uuencode for attachments, and when I changed it to mime,
it worked. But the strange thing is that it has always been set to Uuencode and
it worked until I upgraded the firewall (and Xmail)...

[xmail] Problem with xbmf filter

2008-12-27 Thread Stig Østvang
Hi.

I've noticed in my logs (/var/log/messages) that the xbmf filter have some
problems. It says SMTP filter error (-92): Filter =
/var/MailRoot/filters/xbmf, and according to the list of error codes this
means ERR_FORK. I tried to download the source and recompile it, but the
problem persists. Any idea what could cause this and how it can be fixed?

[xmail] Best anti-spam for Xmail

2011-07-19 Thread Stig Østvang

Hi, all.

Can anyone tell me what the best anti-spam
solution for Xmail is? I've found Spamassassin,
dspam, assp, but I don't know which one works
best with xmail. For assp it looks like I would
need to send all outgoing mail through it as
well. How does that work when I have to send all outgoing mail through my ISP?

Re: [xmail] Best anti-spam for Xmail

2011-07-25 Thread Stig Østvang

Thanks for the suggestions (and warning) about ASSP.

I've set up ASSP in testmode according to the
documentation in the wiki, but it delays every
mail. I guess it's not a big problem, but a
bigger problem is that I can't send mail to
EmailWhitelistAdd to whitelist addresses. If I
use only EmailWhitelistAdd, I get '501 Syntax
error in parameters or arguments: [-132]'. I I
try to send to EmailWhitelistAdd@mydomain, I get
'550 Mailbox unavailable'. ASSP has been set up
to listen to port 25 and send on port 26, xmail
has been set up to listen to port 26 and no
changes in my mail program. Anyone have any
suggestions how I can whitelist addresses?

Outside sender/Server = inet = assp = xmail

Assp works like a transparent proxy and can be
setup such that no one would be wiser that its even there.

[xmail] Problem with Xmail and ASSP

2012-04-12 Thread Stig Østvang

Hi, all.

I'm running xmail 1.27, ASSP 1.9.1.3 and Telaen.org 1.1.2 webmail.

Before I installed ASSP, I didn't have any problems with xmail and
Telaen, but after I installed ASSP I can't send mail using the
webmail. It's set up to use SMTP. Unless I have used a regular mail
client shortly before. If I close down my regular email client and
wait for a while (I don't know exactly how long I have to wait), I
can't send mail using the webmail. Reading mail is no problem. I have
enabled SMTP logging in the webmail, bur I can't really see why it
fails, so I'm hoping that some of the other users using ASSP as well
have any suggestions.

When I have a successful delivery, I get the following output:
