whats the recommended compiler for the xfree source?
i have gcc 2.97 im pretty sure, but i cant successfully compile xfree to
save my existance (not from official release source and not from cvs)
are there any libs i need or anything else that i should make sure i have?
im running a redhat 7.2

I have xfree86 4.1.0 installed (binary-dist/slackware 8.0).
Is it safe to grab the sources for xfree86 4.1.0, compile it
and install it on top of the existing X installation?
