Hello,

xrandr is a cmd that will give the NAME of the displays. I have seen
that the name might change from VGA1 to VGA-1 when upgrading and that
gives a problem, when I put a line in .profile that will arrange the
display (or some other old setting is read).

arandr is the GUI app, and lets you save a configuration, that can be used.

2018-07-24 Thread Marc Coevoet

Hello,

I'm used to knode, and like to use a small app instead of eg thunderbird.

I have found a binary for 16.04 some years ago, but am now under 18.04.

Is there a place that would install a .deb?

Hi, my OS: Xubuntu 16.04.2 LTS

My laptop has 2 graphic cards: nvidia and built-in CPU intel.
I prefer to use intel as it is power saving option. The problem is that
I cannot connect my laptop to external monitor when using intel.
Eg. when I connect it via HDMI, it cannot see external monitor. However
if I switch to nvidia card it sees another display with no problem.

Hmm hmm if the PCIE card does not have a VGA or HDMI connector?

(I suppose it will NOT work on windows either.)

[xubuntu-users] NNTP news reader knode is back!

2017-05-25 Thread Marc Coevoet

Hello,

Although I sit behind xubuntu, I use knode as nntp reader.

After some years of absence, knode is back! But I had a small problem:
I could not load the kio slave for NNTP. So had to install/add a
kio-slave lib manually!

kde4pimlibs-kio-plugins was absent in the dependencies.

[xubuntu-users] Weather panel app "end of life"?

2017-05-17 Thread Marc Coevoet

Hello,

I see that the weather forecast by my weather panel app is no longer
supported, ie it only shows forecasts until tomorrow morning.

What is wrong? It would be an idea f we could fill in another server,
closer to our house, so that we don't rely on ?Norway?

Looks like gwenview is the way to go. It's KDE-centric but works well

"apt install gwenview" wants to install 115 packages!

This is way too much for a simple image viewer.

It is because you need the kde environment

So far, the only program I found is xv, but xv development has stopped

And xv is not free software.

Looks like gwenview is the way to go. It's KDE-centric but works well
under XFCE (Xubuntu). Lots of features.

I use ristretto , which shows a dir of picts ...
