Yes definetely from my side as i was little confused when i first saw it (configuration to enable ATS1 for application history) but may be we need to check with Zhijie for his views as he has coined it :) bq. Yes this is a good question to track it faster which requires both reader and writer changes i think bq. l.232: Some of the info entries are redundant from the app attempt registered event. Are they needed? checked again with V1 code and its same and the rationale might be that original tracking url might change when AM is unregistering and also in case of unmanaged AM both URLs are originalTrackingUrl hence during finish it can change. apart from these dont see anything repeating. bq. l.330: Now that this is taken care of by the RM timeline collector manager, do we need this method any more? So approach what i have taken is 1> SMP will exist and SMP creates RMTimelineCollector. and RM will not be aware of RMTimelineCollector. 2> Seggregrate the V1 event handler code from SMP as TimelineV1Handler . (simpler to remove V1 support it in future ) 3> add modifications in SMP such that TimelineV1Handler or RMTimelineCollector (V2) will be created based on configuration. Also appropriate Dispatchers are to be selected. I have also incorporated the changes to support RMContainer metrics based on configuration (Junping's comments). Pending tasks : * Testcases for RMTimelinecollector is not completed, as i dint want to take the approach of TestDistributedShell as tests in it are mostly checking whether the required files are created but in case of TestRMTimelinecollector, we need to check whether the Entities are properly populated, which requires Reader API and it seems to be not finalized yet. [ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/YARN-3044?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:all-tabpanel ] Naganarasimha G R updated YARN-3044: Attachment: YARN-3044.20150325-1.patch Hi [~zjshen] & [~sjlee0] I am uploading WIP patch to check whether i am in line with goal of this jira, and the status is as following : * have moved some ATS v1 classes from resourcemanager.metrics -> resourcemanager.timelineservice which will be required by ATSv2 (so that deletion after deprecation is smoother). * Metrics which were posted to SMP are also posted to RMTimelinecollector and further ATSV2 Entities are created for them and posted by RMTimelinecollector. Pending stuff * No test code written nor checked for failing of the existing test code * need to figure out how to post the configs of an app to ATSV2 (i am assuming to do it, as part of this jira, please inform if any other plans ). * IIUC TimelineWriter only understands TimelineEntity to be written, so all the fields present in subclasses of TimelineEntity needs to be fit into TimelineEntity (as part of info/isRelatedToEntities/relatesToEntities fields ) and similarly while reading do the vice-versa (may be in the other jira). correct me if my understanding is wrong.
