I have a couple of versions of the Amougies festival, willhave to locate and listen to them, they are really great music, driving rock at its best. Zappa was reputedly in a very bad mood and did not enjoy the event, He was the appointed DJ. and everything went wrong. The film referred to was called Music Power (there were rumours that Polanski directed it, but I haven;t heard these for a number of years now). I have been trying to locate the film, not for the FZ content but the Floyd's and especially Soft Machine's contributions (Zappa hated the Soft Machine music by the way!). There was talk of a showing of Music Power in Toronto a few months back, but I lost the thread, again I have some print-outs about this if I can locate them. I've not come up with anything concrete, but am hoping to vine what I have on the Floyd group entitling it Where is the Amougies film? I have spent years looking for this. Date: Tue, 24 Jan 2006 23:24:13 -0500 A couple of years ago, TBN's BaldHeaded John got his hands on an alleged copy of the jam... After listening, I was pretty convinced that he got the bogus copy floating around out there; I simply didn't hear any FZ on it - and I listened intently, even tho' it was very poor quality. That doesn't mean that an actual recording does not exist; it means that a bogus one is assuredly out there... And I'm sure I heard it - uh, the bogus one. It'll be interesting to compare the two. Here' a link to an MP3 of a Society Pages interview with FZ from 12-22-1989 about the Amougies Festival: http://jaypfunk.home.comcast.net/fzpf.mp3 He denies he jammed with Pink Floyd. I always thought Zappa's mind and memory were as sharp as a whip, but it appears he spaced on this one. (Maybe he OD'd on turnip fumes at the Festival!) What do you guys think? Most legendary, of course, is Frank Zappa's jam with Pink Floyd on a very extended Interstellar Overdrive. Apparently, despite the wealth of Pink Floyd bootlegs in circulation, no one seems to have their Amougies set, so this will probably delight a lot of people. Browing various PF-related websites, there even seems to be a debate on whether the jam ever took place. Well, here is the final proof that it did. Now, the tracklist: 1. Sadly the taper was into rock, not jazz, and didn't bother recording any of the jazz acts.) I intend to seed some of the individual performances in the near future, so watch out. I must thank the taper, JJB, for his permission to seed these rare treasures, making them available freely to all via DaD in affinity with its non-profit philosophy.
