Re: [Zappa-List] Re: OT: Removing Gaps from TAO Discs

2006-11-05 Thread Nokeating4

Appreciate your input Les.

And just to make things clear, I was not asking this question with the intention of trying to correct discs that I had received from a trading group so that I could try to pass them on.  I have received discs from trading groups in the past that have had problems such as this and I have always sought out a new copy that is correct. It's much easier dealing with a correct copy than trying to fix one with problems, and it diminishes the chances of passing on a disc that is not correct.  I fully agree that attempting to do this would be about as bad as using an mp3 source.

The reason I was asking was to try to correct some discs that I have in my own collection, where the source is no longer available, and I'm having to deal with trying to fix what I have as best I can.  This question had nothing to do with Zappa  vines, hense the "OT" or "Off Topic."  I just wanted to ask this group figuring that somebody or a few would have some answers to this question.

Thanks again for everyone's help with this topic.

Can I just add my two penn'orth to this thread.

I too have in the past received TAO audio discs in trades and been
obviously disappointed.

However, I've also received audio discs where the 2 second gaps have
been removed (by what method I do not know) BUT there still remains a
tiny "glitch" in sound as one track changes to the next which, whilst
not as bad, still shows the origin to be an inferior copy.

My conclusion is that whilst you might want to try removing the gaps
in a TAO recording for your own listening pleasure, I don't think
that discs treated in such a way should ever become masters for a
vine. It is far better to source an original copy.

Even if there are better "corrective" programmes out there than the
one used on the discs I've heard, I do think the same policy should
apply.

This would be just as bad as vining an audio disc sourced from mp3's
in my opinion.

We shouldn't knowingly corrupt the vine pool if we can help it.

Cheers
Les.

I remember just after the Rolling Stones boots Yahoo Group started up (which
was very active in the early days),but is now basically a reweeding
venture,I traded some discs with a guy in the US.
I received the discs and they all had tao gaps in them.

When I questioned him about this he said something like *I don't know what
your problem is,I have over 60 Stones boots and they all have 2 sec gaps in
them*.

I thought it was funny anyway ;-)

How are you doing Les ?

And anyone heard from our Polish friend Bart recently.haven't seen him
post for ages ?

Are you out there Bart ?

Cheers,
Glen
