yes. thank you john k. i'd like in on this one as well--- johnk(us)< > They say that they are going to make some shows available for download, though this hasn't happened yet. You can use software to record the shows which brings me to something I was thinking about bringing up anyway: > If there is enough interest in the MOI show at the Fillmore West on 11-06-70, I will offer this up as a vine. He abandoned the original Mothers at the close of that decade, only to reform a different line-up under the same name in 1970, this time including two members of the Turtles, Howard Kaylan and Mark Volman (sometimes known as Flo & Eddie due to contractual problems), to help with Frankâ?Ts increasingly bizarre comedy routines and, almost incidentally, singing. > > The opening set by Boz Scaggs couldnâ?Tt possibly have prepared anyone for what was going to occur that night at the corner of Van Ness and Market, though it did prove that Bill Graham had a pretty good sense of humor. Eager to try out material from the upcoming 200 Motels film and accompanying album, the Mothers donâ?Tt move in any one direction for too long; sometimes itâ?Ts as if theyâ?Tre moving in all directions at once. There are hints of jazz-fusion and psychedelia, along with Zappaâ?Ts beloved doo-wop. They even make a brief stab at the Turtlesâ?T "Happy Together" as part of the groupie- baiting sleaze-fest "Daddy, Daddy, Daddy." This is a limber bunch, but theyâ?Tre at their best when playing it straight ("Call Any Vegetable" from Absolutely Free is a prime example). Some songs are derailed by excessive hollering and dialogue, the delivery of which suggests the performers are nearly as bored as the audience theyâ?Tre baffling. Provoking the crowd, however, is part of the plan and listening to Frank scold them for their indifference is highly satisfying for anyone whoâ?Ts ever stood under stage lights. > > An appreciation for this performance depends entirely on oneâ?Ts threshold for long and noodly instrumental explorations accented by dick jokes. But it can safely be said that no one else was doing anything quite like this at the time. RE: [Zappa-List] Re: Wolfgang's Vault
They say downloads are coming but some details still need worked out. It also says they've transferred the well preserved tapes to the highest quality digital formats. I can only hope they will offer downloads in flac or an equivalent format then. I can't find the Zappa concert today so I guess it rotated out. I'm listening to a Black Sabbath concert from 1975 just now. Brings back some old memories cause I always went to see them back then when they came to town back then. Anyway I'm hopeful that downloads of a few Zappa shows among others will be available soon.
