RE: [Zen] Shunryu Suzuki was nothing
Pascal, I don't disagree with your conclusion, but isn't most of everything in America smoke and mirrors? Such as Christianity, Islam, Democracy, Capitalism, Socialism, Personal Freedom, Human Rights, etc. The American expression of Zen is no different than these; but, like all of these, if you look hard enough you can find at least a vestige of the original intent. .Bill! Pascal posted: I have been reading this old thread, and I have to agree with it to some degree. Without the 1960s drug culture, Zen would never have gotten a foothold here in America. It is very telling that the various Zen masters that are around are hardly more than bullshit artists. I was reading some Brad Warner stuff, and this guy has to be the epitome of bullshit. So, while I believe that meditation is good, and I enjoy reading the old Zen books, I think most of it is smoke and mirrors here in America. Pascal

As for `bullshit', I would again have to assume you are correct. Anyone with the first name TOR(o) should have an affinity with bullshit. hehehehe --- In Zen_Forum@yahoogroups.com, Bill Smart [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Tor, I just want to add that Zen sucks. It is strictly for windbags and assholes. Would you rather live in vacuum and be constipated? Look at the so-called zen masters that have posted here. I was reading the archives, and that tells you all you need to know about Zen. It is all posturing and bullshit. I don't know anyone who has posted here that claims to be a zen master, and I've been on this forum for several years. You don't need to read the archives to know all you need to know about zen. In fact you don't need to 'know' anything about zen. All you have to do is sit quietly. And yes, you are right again, posture is important when sitting. It helps you breathe freely to help fill your windbags. As for 'bullshit', I would again have to assume you are correct. Anyone with the first name TOR(o) should have an affinity with bullshit. [Zen] Shunryu Suzuki was nothing
I think that the only reason Zen got a foothold in the USA was because of the 1960s drug culture. Shunryu Suzuki was just a Zen bureacrat, nothing special, and yet his book set alot of people to look into Zen. Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind was heralded as some kind of major nirvana of the West, alot of hype. The Zen wave is long over in America, and Zen is dying here just like it is dying in Japan. RE: [Zen] Shunryu Suzuki was nothing
Bill, I was going to reply to his/her commentary but you beat me to the punch. I had to LOL as I came to the conclusion that if this is in fact the case, here I sit at 37, archaic, dated and a vestige of my former great self(and better for it), left with nothing but my hoop and slinky. Thanks for the chuckle.
