Good luck.
Incidentally, she was his mistress, and marrying her was for those
days a revolutionary act. She's not lived up to it. Her politics are
stupid, pro-Maratha, and western Maharashtra Marathas are either
stupid or arrogant (Kunbis have reservation according to Mandal
commission, and all western India Marathas were originally Kunbis --
if they don't want to admit that they're farmers (kunbi = kulwadi =
peasnt) then they don't deserve anything.

being derogatory to Ambedkar is only an offshoot of all of this. You
have a history, and then try to overcompensate by becoming more
Brahman than the Brahmans (she was also at this recent Brahman
maha-adhivesan in Pune) and more Maratha than the Marathas.

Incidentally, Sheila Dixit, the CM of Delhi who went to that program,
is actually a Sikh married to a Brahman. A devout Sikh, I'm told.
She must really have been furious when she found out how reactionary
it was.

And, finally, I would advise all women, in this group or not, to have
a good male guard dog (like a German shepherd etc) if they're worried
about being attackied. Ours would have torn those RSS goons in
mangalore apart.

Knowledge council in line of fire

OUR SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT
New Delhi, Feb. 10: Several members of the country's top advisory body
on education today criticised the National Knowledge Commission and
asked the government to reject its recommendations.

The criticism came at the first meeting of the reconstituted Central
Advisory Board of Education chaired by human resource development
minister Arjun Singh.

The board's remarks, prominently mentioned in a press note released by
the HRD ministry late this evening, strengthens sections of the
government keen to see the end of the commission headed by technocrat
Sam Pitroda.

The panel was set up by the Prime Minister in 2005 to prepare a
blueprint for India's transformation into a knowledge society — a
key vision of Manmohan Singh.

But the commission has since had several clashes with the HRD ministry
centred on the panel's complaint that the ministry is strangling the
autonomy of higher education institutions in India. Its term — already
extended by six months — ends on April 2.

Board member Zoya Hasan, also a member of the National Commission for
Minorities and teacher at the Jawaharlal Nehru University, criticised
the panel's recommendations for promoting expansion without
accountability.

The NKC wants India to expand its higher education like never before
but at the same time wants deregulation when higher education in our
country is already under-regulated. The government, with all its
failings, is accountable, she said.

Autonomy and regulation are not contradictory, Hasan added.

Another member, K.K. Aboobacker, the president of the Muslim
Educational Society, alleged that the commission had ignored the needs
of minorities in its recommendations.

At least two state education ministers belonging to the Congress also
criticised certain aspects of its recommendations. They applauded
Arjun's efforts in implementing OBC reservations despite the panel's
opposition to quotas in higher education.

Dalit girl rape: cop dismissed
Express News Service Posted: Feb 11, 2009 at 0019 hrs

Lucknow A member of the National Scheduled Castes Commission visited
Ferozabad on Tuesday to take account of the alleged rape of an
18-year-old Dalit girl by the former station officer of the Fariha
police station. Satyendra Sheel, the accused policeman, has been
dismissed.
He was suspended on Monday after the victim's brother lodged an FIR
accusing him of raping his sister within the police station premises.

Satya Bahin, the member of the SC Commission, met the DM, the SP and
the Zila Samaj Kalyan Adhikari and collected the details of the
incident and the action initiated into the matter.

She will meet the victim on Wednesday to record her statement.

Bahin said: The girl is still kept at the Mahila police station and
is being harassed even though there is no need to make her stay with
the police. The ASP Ferozabad told me that the girl was keen to return
to her village.

A report into the matter will be prepared and action will be taken
after going through her statement, she added.

Ferozabad ASP Jagdeep Singh, who is supervising the investigation,
said: The girl was staying with her brother in the city for last
several months. Her parents live in a village. She was not ready to go
to her parents even though her brother was forcing her to return.
Hence, she has been kept at the Mahila police station.

ADG (Law Order) Brij Lal confirmed the dismissal of Sheel but
refuted the charge of rape. He said the inquiry revealed that the SO
had taken the girl in a room and misbehaved with her. The allegation
of rape has not been corroborated in the medical examination, Lal
added.

The Superintendent of Police Ferozabad, Chandra Prakash, said: The
member of the SC Commission collected the details about the rape of
the girl by two youths earlier and the one in which Sheel was
involved.

The girl, a resident of Keshpura village, had come to the police
station to record her statement after her brother lodged an FIR at the
Fariha police station on February 7, alleging that two local men had
raped her.

 *Dear Friends*

*A*s you may be aware that on 23rd Dec.2009, the

 end the
reservation in faculty positions for SC/STs in 47
 Institutions of higher
learning* *(like IITs, IIMs, NITs etc) spread all over
 India. It is no
secret that the record of the successive manuvadi govts,
 especially that of
Congress party has been rather shameful as far as filling
 up of reservation
quotas for the SC/ST/OBCs is concerned. Especially in such
 (so called)
institutions of higher learning, it has become a sort of
 manuvadi *religious
 ritual* to discriminate against SC/ST/OBC/Religious
 Minorities students and
faculty members. Statistics show that in these institutions
 in the past 62
years, not even 5% quota has been filled from the SC/ST/OBC
 categories in
the faculty positions. In fact it has become a crooked
 policy of the
Congress Party to always talk loftily about the welfare of
 Dalits while
doing everything in its power to hurt their
 social-political and economic
interests at all levels. This *gandhian* doublespeak has
 become the
trademark Congress style over the years.

*T*his Bill is nothing but a hidden agenda of the
 brahminical forces of the
country under the leadership of the Congress party to
 introduce
*manusmriti*in this country through back door once again.
 As Baba
 Saheb Dr Ambedkar had
rightly said that the key to progress to any society lies
 in Education. More
over the real development of any society can take place
 only when it has
sufficient nos. of highly educated persons who can give
 leadership to the
society. The hidden agenda of the Congress Party led
 present govt at the
centre is to hit at the very root of the Bahujan Samaj
 especially the SC/ST
categories by diluting or finishing off the reservations
 for them in the
higher positions especially in the field of higher
 Education. This Bill is
 another step in that direction.

*K*eeping in mind this conspiracy by the Congress Party
 govt, the *Bahujan
Students' Front (BSF)* has decided to oppose this
 Higher Education
 Bill *tooth

 on 23rd Feb. 2009
(Monday) to expose this brahminical gameplan that's
 being implemented by the
Congress Party and its other allies. More than Ten Thousand
 students and
teachers from all over the country are expected to
 participate in this
Rally. It is appealed to all the students teachers
 hailing from Bahujan
Samaj, representing various colleges Universities all
 across the country,
to come together and register their protest against this
 Bill. This Rally is
also going to be a warning to all those MPs (whether in the

Murder slap in Cong's Dalit face
OUR SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT

Prasad: Resignation ruled out
Lucknow, Feb. 11: The Congress suffered a blow today when a criminal
case was filed against Union minister Mahavir Prasad, the party's most
recognisable Dalit face in Uttar Pradesh.

Prasad, the minister for small scale, agro and rural industries, has
been accused of being part of a conspiracy to murder a resident of his
village in Gorakhpur.

I will face the trial but not resign from my post as a minister, the
Bansgaon MP said, alleging he had been framed.

The case against him was filed on the orders of Allahabad High Court.

Subhavati Devi, a resident of Ujjarpar in Gorakhpur, moved a local
court last week alleging that the minister was involved in a
conspiracy to kill her husband Ram Pargat, a farmer and BSP worker.
When the court refused to entertain the petition, she moved the high
court.

Ram Pargat, who was in his thirties, was found dead by the road on the
evening of January 28 with head injuries. On January 29, police
registered an accident case, saying the farmer had been knocked down
by a car.

However, some local residents said he might have been hit by a blunt
weapon on his head and asked the widow to move court.

It is our task now to find out the truth behind the case and, in the
next few days, conclude if it is a case of murder or accident,
Gorakhpur special superintendent of police Aditya Mishra said.

Mishra said two other accused — village head Rajesh Singh and resident
Gauri Shankar, both close to the minister — had been charged with
murder, destroying evidence, intentional insult with intent to provoke
breach of public peace, criminal intimidation and the SC/ST act.

Brij Lal, the additional director general of police, said the probe
would be fair.

However, the Congress legislature party leader in Uttar Pradesh,
Pramod Tiwari, is already crying foul. It is part of a conspiracy by
Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayavati to defame Dalit leaders of the
Congress. We have been facing this since long. But we will fight it
politically, he said.

The case against Prasad is a blow to the Congress's efforts to woo
Dalits in Uttar Pradesh ahead of the general election. Amethi MP Rahul
Gandhi has been trying to reach out to Dalits over the past many
months. His night stops at homes of Dalits in the state had rattled
BSP chief minister Mayavati, who sees the community as her captive
vote bank.

State Congress chief Rita Bahuguna Joshi refused to comment. It is
not appropriate to come to any conclusion before seeing the order,
she said.

Cops suspended over Dalit woman's death
12 Feb 2009, 0057 hrs IST, TNN

LUCKNOW: As many as nine police personnel, including the police
station in-charge, were put under suspension on Wednesday in
connection with the
death of a Dalit woman, who was assaulted by the cops from Itwa police
station in Sidhartnagar district.

Additional director general of police (ADG) Law Order, Crime and
Special Task Force (STF) Brij Lal said that the action was initiated
on the basis of the news report (front-paged by TOI in its edition
dated February 11, 2009 highlighting police attempts to hush up the
case). Senior officials have been directed to look into the lapses
including the delay in lodging of a case in connection with the
woman's death and fix responsibility accordingly, Brij Lal said.

The nine policemen suspended include all those who were involved in
the said raid at the house of victim Baasumati in Itwa police circle
late night on February 7. Apart from the police station in- charge, a
sub-inspector, six con stables and a police driver have been put under
suspension with immediate effect and an inquiry has been ordered into
the entire episode, Brij Lal said.

Allegations are that a police team from Itwa in Sidhartnagar district
reached the house of Baa sumati looking for her teenaged son
Bindeshwari on February 8, 2009. The police action came after two
alleged robbers picked up by the Itwa police earlier the same evening,
named Bindeshwari as their associate. When the police failed to find
Bindeshwari, they allegedly assaulted his mother Baa sumati, who
suffered severe injuries and was admitted to the hospital, where she
later died.

Surprisingly, the Itwa police tried to hush up the case and the
station officer (SO) Itwa himself denied that any such incident had
happened when contacted by the TOI on phone on Tuesday night.
Sidharthnagar SSP though admit ted to be aware of the incident, ex
pressed his inability to confirm if any FIR had been lodged in
connection with the incident. I think the scene of the incident would
come under Balrampur district but I am not sure, SSP Sidhartnagar
Srid har Pathak said.

SP Balrampur, however, claimed that he too had heard that such an
incident had taken place, but even he was not aware of the details.
It must have been registered with the Itwa police in Sidhartnagar,
SP Balrampur K Eji learsan told TOI on phone on Tues day night.

Corrigendum: In the related to police atrocities published in the TOI
edition dated February 11, 2009, the headline erroneously stated that
SSB jawans assaulted a woman in Balrampur who later died. How ever,
the victim was very much alive. The error is regretted.

Various organisations protest humiliation of Dalits
11 Feb 2009, 2354 hrs IST, TNN

AJMER: Various socio-political organizations on Wednesday protested
against the alleged humiliation of dalits in Tiloli village of
Bhilwara district
where they were asked to drink cow urine to be part of a yagna'.

The Bhilwara district administration deployed more policemen in Tiloli
village and started recording the statement of villagers.

An organisation, Ambedker Manch, threatened agitation if no action was
taken within a week against those involved in the incident.

Students belonging to Ambedker Manch gathered at the divisional
headquarters here and protested against the incident. We want a case
to be registered against those who still believe in untouchabilty,
said Desh Raj Megwanshi, president of the Manch. Students shouted
slogans against untouchability and demanded that government register a
criminal case against those who asked dalits to drink cow urine for
purification. The memorandum given to the district collector says that
after sixty years of Independence, the discrimination still prevails
in the state which shows social backwardness.

On other hand, BJP MLA Anita Bhadel condemned the incident and asked
chief minister to initiate high-level inquiry. See how people dared
to practice such discrimination? Bhadel asked.

Ambedkar Vidyarthi Manch representatives went to the village to record
the statement of dalits who were asked to drink cow urine. We have
given an ultimatum to the district authorities to take action
otherwise we will have a halla bol' in the village after four days,
said a leader, Anil Chawaria.

We have demanded removal of officials who remained mum on such
incidents and and an inquiry should be initiated against them, said
Ashok Sukaria, Youth Congress leader. Congress leader Lalit Bhati said
that they had also apprised the chief minister about the incident and
requested him to take action on the issue.
