Samba works fine in zones, I have a number of former Samba servers

I was trying to figure out how to overcome the not-supported native NFS service

You can't.

Fine so, the only workaround, I gues,s is to enable NFS shares from the
global-zone pointing into the non-global zones shared dirs

Thanks

Be carefull. A zone should not NFS mount a directory from global zone
(unsupported and could lead to a deadlock). You have to lofs mount.

A bit more clarity on that caution is due - this only applies to an
NFS mount from the global zone on which the non-global zone is
running. Further, I thought that this was an interaction between UFS
and NFS that could cause a problem and that the NFS share was coming
from ZFS the problem didn't exist.

Former means Solaris 8 9!

The zones run on Solaris 10, using the bundled Samba.

Sure, thanks, I'm already using the lofs'ed dirs for inter-zone sharing, I was
referring only to the possibility to use the global-zone as the NFS server in
orer to sharing the non-global zone interested directory as i.e.
/export/home/zones/my-zone/root/export/shared, in order to circumvent the
server problem as per the ngz

Great,

Thanks Ian, so the bundled Samba could be either SUNWsmba or in alternative
pkg:/service/network/samba to get running under SMF control.

I'm totally using ZFS allocation with no involvement at all for UFS, so I
guess that the idea of achieving a share using the global-zone as the server
including the non-global zone dir it can be valid anyway?

Yes, you can use NFS to share a directory from the global zone to
other systems, *and* use LOFS to mount that same directory into a zone
on the same system as the global zone.
