[Zope] accessing the user search using mxODBC adapter

Hi We're having issues getting a user listing back from a SQL server database using the default Plone user search. We have the mxODBC adapter all working for login but not for the user search. Does anyone have experience of issues here? Is it an issue with the user folder or is a ZSQL required?
