LEAD STORY

MICROSOFT, U.S. REACH AGREEMENT IN ANTITRUST BATTLE | Bloomberg News

Microsoft and the United States have settled the epic antitrust
battle they've been fighting for the last three years. At the heart
of the settlement is Redmond's pledge to not to wage revenge against
PC makers that pitch non-MS software. The states involved in the
lawsuit have 'til Tuesday to back or reject the deal. MS rivals are
already calling the settlement a sellout.

MICROSOFT'S NEW ASP AGREEMENT SLASHES PRICES | CRN

It's November, do you know what your MS fees are? They may be less.
As of Nov. 1, Microsoft has a new ASP program at work: The Service
Provider License Agreement (SPLA). This program has slashed the
monthly license fees on big-time servers like Windows 2000, SQL
Server and on the Exchange client-access-license. Windows Advanced
Server is now $25 per processor per month -- SQL Server has dropped
to $169 per month.

EXCHANGE 2000 SP2 CLOSE TO RELEASE | ENT Magazine

It's coming: the sequel to Exchange SP1, also known as SP2. Redmond
is expected to unleash it this month. A few fixes along with tweaks
for Outlook Web Access, the Active Directory migration tool, the
Exchange Management Service, SMTP reinstalls, full text indexing, and
message tracking will run with the pack. SP2 will only run on Win2k.

THE MISSING LINK | Hacker jailed for revenge sewage attacks

A town in Australia reeked of revenge thanks to a foul-fingered
hacker. He was so mad that he didn't get a job at a sewage treatment
plant that to say he raised a stink would be an "understinkment." He
hacked the plant's computer system, and the you-know-what really hit
the fan. And a river. And a park. And a hotel. This guy programmed
the plant to flush millions of liters of raw sewage into the area,
wasting fish, and plants, and challenging the gag reflexes of
everyone in the stench zone. The hacker is now getting a whiff of
justice; he'll spend two years in jail for turning his grudge to
sludge.
