LEAD STORY

MS GROUP TO OVERSEE HACK REPORTS | News: ZDNet

Microsoft is buddying up with five security companies to fashion a
standard for publishing information about software flaws. Redmond has
criticized the security community's practice of fully disclosing the
ins and outs of flaws -- MS says that basically arms hackers with
information.

HACKERS CALL FOR INFO ANARCHY | News: vnunet

The hacker group Nomad Mobile Research Centre (NMRC) is calling for
the hacker community to "demonstrate to Microsoft and the world what
true Information Anarchy is." NMRC is using Microsoft's own words --
last month the company said the security community bears blame for
Internet insecurity because it basically gives the "combination" to
cyber criminals. NMRC suggests "that everyone who is involved in
security research and supports full disclosure, steps up research
efforts and releases those issues that they have been sitting on."

SOFTWARE GIANT FEARS IBM MORE THAN SUN | News: CRN

Is Microsoft having nightmares about a Big Blue monster coming to get
it? Microsoft's president says his company is more concerned about
IBM than Sun when it comes to Web services. Why? Because, according
to Rick Belluzzo, Sun is a hardware company. Nuff said. IBM, he says,
has a "more comprehensive story" and a firm grip on the enterprise.

THE MISSING LINK | Star Trek's "historic" auction

Mark this date in your captain's log -- December 12, 2001. A "Star
Trek" auction that would leave Spock gasping for logic, Sulu
disoriented and Khan at a loss for wrath takes place that day. Boldly
go to eBay to boldly spend your money. Trekkies will be totally
tantalized by the treasures, which three creators of the 60s series
are selling from their personal collections (attics). The only
production model of the USS Enterprise will be on the block. So will
Spock's bed, Kirk's tight shirt, phasers, a complete set of scripts
and a blooper reel. The items will go for warp prices -- the ship
model has an estimated value between $30,000 and $50,000.
