OPEN SOURCE REVIEW WOULD AID WINDOWS SECURITY | News: The Register

Open it up! Flash that code! That's Gartner's advice to Microsoft.
Analyst John Pescatore, who took IIS behind the proverbial woodshed
last year, has said Microsoft's "security by obscurity" policy, in
which the company closely guards its source code, isn't working. He
advised MS to "become more expert at developing code that can
withstand external review" in order to reach that Eden of true
"trustworthy computing."

MICROSOFT RELEASES MONSTER IE PATCH | News: CNET

Microsoft has released a patch for six new Internet Explorer flaws,
three of them "critical." One of the vulnerabilities, a cross-site
scripting error in IE 6.0, allows an attacker or worm to run code on
the affected machine. Two other flaws also put data in jeopardy and
come in to play because of the way IE handles site templates and the
way it processes cookies.

PERMISSION ISSUES FOR POWER USERS | Ask the Expert

Dear Expert,
My users have to install apps (i.e. install/uninstall printers) that,
in spite of what MS says, "Power Users" permissions don't work for.
So we end up having to give the local users administrative
permissions to their machines. When a machine may have more than one
user, the permissions issue gets difficult to manage. Are we doing
something wrong to cause "Power Users" not to have adequate
permissions?

the information was priceless. Think of it as a nice wipe of Windex

UH, DUDE, THE DELL GUY IS ACCESSORIZING | The Missing Link

Dude, if you find Dell's whole "Steven" shtick unbearable, at least
you won't find it unwearable. Dell thinks its "Dude, you're gettin' a
Dell" ad campaign and pimply pitchman are so hip that the company is
cranking out campus-cool "Dude Gear" -- T-shirts, baseball hats,
backpacks and CD cases. Now you can get "duded up" without buying a
Dimension. The company says the dude duds are just a natural
extension of the commercials; so basically you can have what Steven
has. Fortunately, other stuff the character may have (like a fake ID,
beer-battered futon and three-month-old pizza boxes) aren't part of
the package.
