WIN2000TALK RADIO
Microsoft Certification: What's it worth?
You hear a lot about it -- but what's it really worth to network administrators, IT departments and the corporation's bottom line? In these days of tight budgets, it's increasingly difficult to get budget approval for even absolute and critical necessities. So how does a network administrator, IT manager or chief technology officer cost-justify the time and expense involved in training and retraining staff on current and future technology? That's the topic tackled in this edition of Win2000Talk Radio.

THE MISSING LINK
Virus writers less like Dr. Jekyll, more like Anthony Michael Hall in "Weird Science"

When you think of a virus writer, what comes to mind? A mad scientist plotting Internet domination? A geek with a gangrenous grudge? One tech consultant, Graham Cluley, says you need to think more along the lines of a pimply teenager with posters of J. Lo and Britney on the wall and a preoccupation with video games. Cluley pretty much pooh-poohs the idea that these kids are writing mission-critical system killers. He points to the recent DuLoad worm to prove his point. It arrives in your inbox under the file names "J. Lo Bikini Screensaver.exe," "Kama Sutra Tetris.exe" and 'The Sims Game crack.exe," as well as some pornographic names that would make Howard Stern blush. Sex and games -- basically we're dealing with the two guys from "Weird Science."
