MS to simplify security advisories (CNET)
Microsoft has advised its customers that it will be tweaking the way it sends out security advisories. The company said that its bulletins are too confusing and are sent to people who don't really need them -- too much information that's just plain annoying. MS plans to tailor its alerts to fit its users' levels of tech savvy -- so end-users don't get the same alerts as hardcore techies. MS also plans to overhaul its security ratings system.

ASK ROBERTA BRAGG
Selective broadband distribution across a LAN
Dear Roberta:
We have broadband Internet access for only our 10-member IT group. We want to keep this totally separate from our LAN, which 100 employees use, for security reasons but at the same time use our LAN to distribute broadband to the IT staff. We were thinking of having a separate subnet, a dedicated PC for the broadband with a hub, which would distribute to the IT staff, who will have two NICs in their PCs. Is this secure enough?
