USB: THE NEW VIRUS INFECTION PATHWAY | by James Michael Stewart

We've known for a long time that viruses will use any and every
possible communication pathway to gain access to a computer system.
To aid in preventing infections we've deployed scanning software to
scan local hard drives, network transmissions and even e-mail.
However, there may be a new means of transference that is easily

HOW TO TRACK WIN2K DOMAIN ACCOUNT LOCKOUTS | by Randy Brown

An easy way to track bad password attempts in a Windows 2000 domain
is to take advantage of the "checked build" of Netlogon.dll on the
PDC-emulator. (You should have the latest service pack installed
before attempting this.) This creates a text file on the PDC-emulator
that you can use to determine which clients are generating the bad
password attempts.

To take advantage of this feature, you need to perform the following
steps.

SHORTCUT TO ANYWHERE | Know-IT-All Quiz #19

Test your knowledge with this week's quiz, then visit the list of
related information you'll find on the answer page.

Despite Win2k's graphical shell, there are many administrators who
are more comfortable with a command line. They would rather bang a
few keys to get their favorite programs to come up rather than
navigate through a nest of menus and submenus. The easiest way to
accomplish this is to:

a. Place shortcuts to your favorite executables on your desktop
b. Edit your process configurations in the task manager
c. Store commonly used program paths in the registry
d. Configure Windows "hotkeys" in the Control Panel
e. Cut through the corner gas station
