COMMENTARY: STAY AWAY FROM BRAIN DUMPS | by Ed Tittel

On Jan. 31, former brain-dump site owner Robert Keppel was sentenced
to 12 months and one day in prison and ordered to pay $500,000 in
restitution to Microsoft. This sentence followed his criminal
conviction for selling Microsoft trade secrets: Microsoft Certified
System Engineer (MCSE) and Microsoft Certified Solution Developer
(MCSD) exam questions. A major warning for the IT community resides
in this outcome.

IT JOB SEARCH: OUT OF STATE OR OUT OF LUCK? | by Eric Berkman

If you're an out-of-work systems or network manager in a saturated
job market like Boston or the Bay Area, you're probably reaching the
breaking point. So it's natural to wonder if it's worth uprooting

IS 36 TOO OLD FOR A NEW IT CAREER? | Ask Ed Tittel

Dear Ed:
I have over 10 years experience in distribution and sales. I am
greatly interested in technology, though, and am studying for a CCNA
(Cisco Certified Network Associate) cert. I would like to progress
into network design and security with a bias toward wireless
networking. I've been also been thinking about becoming a Cisco
security expert. What certifications do I need to pursue to get into
the industry? What is the best path to achieve my career ambitions?
At 36 years old, is it too late to change my career?

THE RULES OF ATTRACTION | Oops! True IT blooper #94

What do you do when your client's magnetic personality is so
overpowering that it's rubbing off negatively on his hardware? A
technician's ability to think outside the box kept this computer
workstation from an untimely death in the blooper zone.

NIC. To disable this feature:

a. Click on your network taskbar icon and adjust the properties
b. Add a DWORD value named 'DisableDHCPMediaSense' to the registry
c. Replace the NIC's driver or firmware with a new update
d. Replace your current adapter with a wireless one
e. Find the sense God gave the common dog
