Gartner: Drop a quarter of your projects (vnunet)
How are those IT projects going? Maybe you should drop one. Gartner thinks that IT directors should stop working on 25% of their projects. Why? Because the ROI just isn't there. Gartner claims two out of three major technology investments don't deliver on their promises, and the shortcomings could compromise the credibility of IT within a company.

Got SQL Server? You may owe Timeline some money (IDG)
If you use SQL Server, you might owe a company named Timeline some money. A Seattle court has agreed that a four-year-old licensing deal between Timeline and Microsoft restricts Microsoft's right to "sublicense" Timeline's patented technology. MS used Timeline's data mart and data warehouse technology in SQL Server. The court's ruling means that some customers who have customized SQL Server by adding programs to it may have to pay Timeline a fee.

Two Yahoos, one tempest in teacup
![]()
It sounds like a Dr. Seuss story called "A Tale of Two Yahoos." Yahoo, the online behemoth, heard about another Yahoo brewing in India --Yahoo tea -- and got a little teed off. Big Yahoo, thanks to its unquenchable desire to be the one true Yahoo, has sued and convinced a court in Delhi to stop the tea company from selling its Yahoo brand beverage -- at least for now. This brings back memories of Australian filmmaker Yahoo Serious' suit against Yahoo. He didn't stand much of a chance either.
