Deloder worm preys on poor passwords (SearchSecurity.com)
Virus experts are warning enterprises of a new worm called Deloder, which uses a legitimate remote administration tool to spread. It attempts to log on to remote computers as the administrator using a list of common passwords it carries. When executed, it drops a Trojan installer and the remote administration application as part of its attempt to continue to spread.

Microsoft gaining on Oracle in database race (IDG)
Some new numbers from IDC show that Oracle was the relational and object-relational database champ in 2002, but Microsoft was hardly a DB loser. Oracle owned 39.4% of the pie, while MS grabbed 11.1%. The good news for MS is, it increased its share by 15%. Oracle's share dropped 5%.

A boot-time device driver that doesn't load correctly will cause Windows 2000 to bluescreen with an error. The best way to remedy this is to:
a. Enter Windows safe mode at startup and assign a new driver
b. Have Windows attempt to detect a more recent driver
c. Type 'disable driver.sys' at the Recovery Console
d. Use Windows' auto-update feature to recover the proper driver
e. Forget the driver and try a three-wood

You're no doubt familiar with the monster beefs between companies like Microsoft and Sun, and more recently SCO Group and IBM. Those Goliaths could save themselves armloads of cash if they took a cue from a couple of Davids. Two telecoms in New Zealand, TeamTalk Ltd. and MCS Digital Inc., couldn't come to terms on access to a mobile radio network. The case was headed to court until the CEOs of both firms decided to roll up their sleeves and settle the matter like men -- in a best-of-three arm-wrestling match. TeamTalk didn't have the muscle to "walk the walk" and had to fork out about $112,000, but its defeated CEO said that his sore arm would have hurt a lot more if he had been forced to write checks to lawyers.
