    Check out our new look!

In response to member feedback, we've redesigned our homepage in order to save you time by providing an easy-to-use guide to the large quantity of information that we offer. We now have an expanded navigation bar at the top and a new site map in the left column. We've also added our popular opinion poll back to the homepage, expanded the list of newsletters -- and more. Take a look!

And, to ensure you're getting the best information to meet your needs from SearchWin2000.com, please take a moment to update your profile. If you do we'll send you a link to chapter one of Mark Minasi's new book, Mastering Windows Server 2003. You'll get the download before the book even hits the shelves!

In his book, Mark updates his best-selling Mastering Windows 2000 Server, Fourth Edition to cover Microsoft's upcoming server release in his trademark clear, step-by-step fashion. But this book doesn't just cover Windows Server 2003 -- in many ways this is the "Fifth Edition" of the Windows 2000 Server book, and contains more in-depth coverage of essential topics, like DNS troubleshooting, AD maintenance, monitoring and repair. Whereas many books focus solely on one version of an OS, this one is written both for the 2000 and 2003 administrator. Click here for details.

    Site Exclusives:
    >> Q&A: Windows Server 2003 offers more, demands more
The long-awaited Windows Server 2003 will be here in less than a month. Was it worth the wait? Or, more important, when's the right time for your company to deploy it? In this interview, we talk with security expert Roberta Bragg about what to expect from Windows Server 2003, the first Microsoft operating system to come with built-in security features.

    >> Microsoft management plans ambitious, ambiguous
Microsoft has offered a few details on its management strategy, but other details, helpful ones that might help you plan for the new System Center, are still up in the air.

    >> True IT rebuttals: DOS, we hardly knew ye
Last week when we published the seemingly silly, yet ultimately controversial, Oops! True IT blooper #97: DOS, we hardly knew ye, we could have never anticipated the onslaught of reader responses it would generate. Some of you offered constructive criticism and your thoughts on the viability of modern defrag utilities. Some of you enjoyed the article but were confused as to why we were being so hard on older IT professionals. A few of you absolutely hated it and accused us of everything from ageism to "being wet behind the ears."

    Tip of the Week:
Give users the power to update personal information in Active Directory
Although the user information found in the Active Directory is definitely a handy reference, it's a big job to keep it up to date. Any time a user moves to another address, changes departments, changes phone numbers, etc., there's a good chance that the Active Directory won't get updated to reflect the change. One way to keep the Active Directory current is to give the users power to update their own information. This is where the Global Address Modify Tool comes into play.
