INTERESTING TIMES IN YOUR E-MAIL INBOX | By Tom Lancaster

Recently, numerous new mass mailing viruses -- including Beagle.A,
Novarg.A, and MyDoom.B -- have been discovered. These viruses harvest
e-mail addresses from e-mail address books and other files likely to
contain e-mail addresses to identify designated message recipients.
But what makes them so powerful and such great potential sources of
infection is that they also use harvested addresses
to identify the sender as well. Why is this significant, you may ask?
This tip will explain why.

PREVENT INTERNAL ABUSE WITH RMTSHARE.EXE | By Carol Miller

Savvy users can create a hidden share on a file server within their
own personal storage or on their local machines. Administrators are
prevented from seeing these shares if the users set the 'Hide'
attribute to 'On' at the file server. So then, how does the
administrator prevent undesirable items from being stored on the
company computer?

TWO WAYS TO UPDATE MS OFFICE FOR SECURITY | By Tom Lancaster

Windows itself gets plenty of attention when it comes to stressing
the importance of security updates, patches and maintenance. Windows
applications, however, rarely get the attention or respect they
deserve. Nevertheless, packages like Microsoft Office need regular
checks to see if they're current and up-to-date, just like the
operating system does.

A WEEK OF GLOOM AND MYDOOM | Opinion

Sobig.F doesn't look so big now. Last summer, that worm infected
systems worldwide within a matter of days and, in the process, blazed
a path to infamy as the Internet's most virulent e-mail worm. Last
week, Mydoom-A eclipsed that record.
